  • Thank you very much! You answered my questions!

  • you can tell if your toner is one that will evaporate off or stay on. If after five minutes of application (by spraying it on or by using a cotton pad) your skin feels sticky, then it is the kind of toner that doesn't evaporate well, and may not even come off well with wipes of a cotton pad.

Helpful is just splashing some water over your face again, patting your face with a clean towel, then applying sunscreen or acne treatment cream.gel or moisturizer or whatever.

  • Can I use (for example La Roche Posay) Thermal Spring Water instead of a toner?

  • Awwww JEAH, toners all day baby

  • Yeah I have the same stuff as prettylittlewhispers,, is this stuff okay to use?

  • If I use the Toner before going to bed, should I follow with the moisturizer even though I"m going to bed? I was told not to use moisturizers on my face before going to bed?

    Thoughts...-

  • THANK YOU DOCTOR!

  • I use clean and clear's deep cleaning astringent, it says it's for sensitive skin + is a gentle formula. It has alcohol in it, and I'm afraid to use it. My skin is quite oily in the t-zone. I use a gentle cleanser, and normally apply moisturizer with SPF afterwards. Will this toner rid me of essential oils in my skin? Also, should I use it in the morning or at night? At night, I use an acne medication instead of moisturizer.

  • so the cleanser and toner is the foreplay :D

  • is toner necessary in my skin care routine? i use a gentle cleanser for sensitive skin daily (cetaphil), st ives gentle apricot scrub at night, epiduo gel at night, and an spf moisturizer in the morning. do i NEED to tone? Im 14

  • @mileyfan8787 you shouldn't be exfoliating with that stives scrub every night, especially because you're young. 2-3 times a week maximum! over exfoliating encourages excess sebum production.

  • Hi Doctor! I use stridex type salicylic pads but it leaves a feeling of something being left ON my skin! I often do not like that feeling and splash my face and then use moisturizer. I thought they were "toners" on a pad basically. So are they a toner removing dirt/oils from my skin? Or something else that leaves medicine behind on the skin. Should I not be rinsing before I put on my moisturizer, and apply it over the film that the pads are leaving?

  • great video. there are lots of false information about how to properly use skin care products on the web. it is nice to have someone to point out the truth.

  • So then is it pointless to use a toner containing salicylic or glycolic acid?

  • So should I cleanse and tone before exfoliating?

  • @facesofmeth no it would be cleanse exfoliate than tone

  • thank you

  • hey doc can i use toner before i apply my retin a??

  • im using a witch hazel toner and not washing it off. so we have to wash it off?

  • @babychanel21 Most toners are made of liquid that easily and quickly evaporates and therefore they do not require being washed off. If yours does not evaporate and you think it's still there, try finding a toner that does evaporate and does not require the extra step of washing it off.

  • @comfykittydesigns Toners are supposed to be volatile which means they evaporate without leaving any residue. If yours leaves a residue, consider changing your toner.

  • @comfykittydesigns You wash it off with a wet cotton pad.

  • Thanxx doc:)

  • i used to use astringent. for me astringent is a bit harsher. i use a milk cleanser, moisturizer, toner. from there if i can put on make up and what not. but i always do those 3. i used to have a problem with milia, especially by the eyes. not anymore! it was a problem for a decade til i got recommendation from an esthetician :)

  • fantastic, really useful info

    thanks

  • has anyone tried his park avenue skin care line?

let me know, i wanna try it :)

  • I'm doing everything, mask once a week, washing with cleanser 3 times a day, srub 4 times a week, toner everyday along with Ambi to brighten up my acne scars, i never drink soda only juice and water but my results are very little. I still have horribly clogged pores and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong D:

  • @Quiteinfamous its frustrating I know...try changing your pillow sheet every night it helped me alot

  • @Quiteinfamous if i were in ur shoes, id try fasting from the juice for a bit and just drinking water n also each day before u get into the shower, run the hot water til theres steam and sit in there which will open up ur pores, youll sweat..then start ur facial routine :-\ ..its worth a try if u can manage running the water..maybe u can soak ur feet so its not a complete waste lol

  • @Quiteinfamous You can also overdo your skin regimen. Cleanse, apply toner morning and evening - the rest of the regimen probably depends on your specific situation.

It looks like you are being way too hard on yourself and your skin, so that might be work adversely against your treatment.

Diet isn't related to skin problems from what I recall reading and watching from Dr. Schultz, so that is not part of the equation.

Try watching all of the videos, and you might find the perfect regimen

  • @zuffox oh yes it is! If i have soda in the next day its already broken out. and i'm really not, if i dont do my routine i break out right after

  • Thank you for the advice

  • thank you sooooo much i had troubles with my toner and this was very helpful now iknow a toner is to remove things not to put it on or anything thank you this was a great help

  • can you do a video on sun spots?

  • @JATEEB He did one already. Just google DermTv and look at all his vids.

  • @iiitsjessmarie Thanks for pointing that out!

  • Thank you! This really helped. I have sensitive skin & broke out. I realized it was my toner & stopped using it but, didn't know why it had broken me out? I now realize it may have been the alcohol.

  • u are so helpful!!! its amazing!! :)

  • Thank you!

  • What is a good toner?

  • thanks for this video!

  • I often forget to use my toner. I suppose that isn't a good thing :-/

  • @beansly87 It only takes a few seconds to apply and remove. You can do it. :)

  • thank you!

  • Intersting stuff, Doc !
