this movie was stupid as is all of Jet Li american made movies.. and i thought with Mark dacascos vs jet li , it should have been one of the best fight sequences ever.. instead.. it was garbage.. Power Rangers have better fight scenes.
I guess we're used to pretty unreal fights from these two. This one seemed closer to reality and may have disappointed some folks, but I'd say it was a good fight. Dacascos is so good at playing evil guys!
It's not the director's fault, but Mark himself. He's not as good w/ the movie fighting now. For example, his kicks don't follow a rhythm, he doesn't snap his head to give the impression that the kick is powerful. Notice how Jet's blows are very dynamic-looking.
@FoieGras You are very, very wrong. Mark is one of the best martial artists alive. He is highly capable of following not only Jet's rhythm, but fast paced, complex fight scenes for example Drive. Not only its the director's fault for slopply editing this fight, but blame can be placed on the action director's shoulders as he got lazy and did not showcase both Jet and Mark's true talents.
@ShinRyojin I think more blame should go to director Andrzej Bartkowiak who's a fantastic DP, but who's directorial resume has been more than a little patchy. Corey Yuen Kwai, Jet's longtime partner and HK vet, was the action choreographer, so I wouldn't blame him. Look at HIS resume!
@hanshotfirst1138 Dont get me wrong, Corey is one of my favorite choreographers, but I have to admit that his choreography in this fight is disapointing considering the fantastic bouts he directed in his other films. I agree that the blame goes to Bartkowiak, he cleary does not know how to film action scenes.
@ShinRyojin At least Luc Besson had the sense to actually let him direct a movie, and Louis Letterier knew how to treat them. But even some directors I really like (Bryan Singer, Richard Donner) seem to mangle HK action (Corey in both cases) sometimes. Hollywood hyper diting just doesn't seem to mesh with HK style most of the time. Sly Stallone's Expendables rocked, for example, but it was really a shame so many awesome martial artists didn't get to show off more.
Obviously Jet Li is going to win no matter who is better at their style of fighting because it's a movie with Jet Li as the main character, which is stupid I would like to see these guys fight for real.
@LupoBHS fight for real???? what's wrong with you, what are you talking about??? their not fighters. Jet Li practiced Wushu, and modern Wushu is not for real-life fighting.
This film marked Mark Dacascos his first appearance in a theatrical release in years. He was hardly even seen or mentioned. Nobody even could even care less he was in it. He squared off with Jet li and nobody gave a shit.
@shamim13333 couldn't agree more. In general Mark Dacascos is one of THE most underrated martial arts stars. Like you said the guy is really skilled. I mean anyone doubting this, if this fight with Jet is not enough, check out DRIVE.
Can you tell me which 1 of my comments your repaying back to. I made so many for this clip. Your right, this fight was no enough of Mark Dacacos. Not like the skills he put in in Drive. I don't Jet can ever beat those skills Mark had put on in Drive.
Mark faught so poorly against Jet li.. This was nothing like how he faught in Drive. He couldn't even get a simgle good kick on Jet Li. why ? He's better than Jet
Someone agrees with me here. They didn't even take the life long nevr again oppurtunity to give an outstanding fight. What waste. Fight last like 3 minuites. I just felt bad for Mark Dacascos.
@shamim13333 Hollywood, it seems, does not GET Asian action. Most just appropriate the aesthetics, but don't understand that it's the rhythms and beauty of the athleticism that's the attraction, not people getting kicked. Hell, Koichi Sakamoto managed some pretty cool stuff when Saban put him on freaking Power Rangers because the didn't edit his work the point of incomprehensibility. The rapid-fire editing doesn't mesh with this kind of style, and it robs me of the very thing I want to see!
I aint seen this film propley but i always wondered, what was that thing jet li made mark swallow and then he started glowing and moments later he perished..?
I don't see what was wrong with my comment, I just said that it was ONE of the greatest 2003 action movies and that there are even better action movies now. Sheesh! Well see ya.

They had a shitty director. I mean a fight with Jet Li and Mark Dacascos should be longer and way more epic.

Why
shamim13333 2 years ago
I agree, this fight scene was a HUGE disappointment.
Seriously this was Decascos and Jet Li, surrounded by fire. It should've been EPIC!
Same thing happened in the action flick War, with Li and Jason Statham.

This movie makes me sad. Jet Li and Mark Dacascos could have had a much more epic fight scene than this, and they totally wasted the opportunity. :(

why not? statham and li were in the shitty War together but they reteemed for the expendables which mean they could possibly face each other again.
