i think people are perfectly justified in saying that the game is bad because it "plays old". We should be allowed to say games are bad in they don't fit into our era - because frankly they should. I dont think it was meant to be taken so seriously I enjoyed it and no it is not amazing it is a bit dated but it was fun enough to play and it gave me a lot of laughs it was entertaining and I will go back to it one day. It is just not a game that you take seriously.
i was born when duke nukem 3d came out and i didnt even know it existed till 2009 and i finished duke nukem forever and its fucking fun so its not polished and amazing but its very enjoyable! +multiplayer is EPIC
In my own honest opinion, since this game is being compared to modern day shooters like Black Ops, I'll compare the two.
Duke looks better than Black Ops.
Duke is more original than Black Ops.
Duke has more replay value than Black Ops. (this applies to single player only)
And this guys says that Duke has a shitty story. Yeah, it does, but how many modern day shooters have a good story? It's just three hours for you to get achievements. Not to have a great narrative experience.

I don't remember quicktime events, literally linear gameplay (as in, a line, that you walk along and wish all the locked doors would open), gimmicky mini games and the ability to carry a maximum of two under-powered guns at a time in Quake, Doom and Duke Nukem 3D.
Sorry, but if you're trying to redeem DNF by saying it has classic gameplay, you're wrong. The only thing reminiscent of the old Duke is the voice acting and the tits. Which is all they got right.

In my opinion this game was really boring. I beat it on the hardest setting with out a problem. My main concern was the control flow. It felt to lose. The catch phrases are out dated and hold no water in today's society. I did not find humor at all in this game. Now for the pros of this game. There was nudity. There was the freeze gun. I was waiting for the expanded ray but loved the updated style of shrink ray. My favorite part was the kitchen. They made you truly grasp how small duke gets.
I could give a fuck less what the critics said. They have been fed the never ending onslaught of "realistic" modern shooters so long that they can't appreciate the old style of game play that DNF brought with it. I can't imagine they will have anything good to say about Serious Sam 3, but I know I will be buying it on day one.

meh game was fine to me and i never even played duke nukem 3d or any other game for that matter, most retro shooter i've played is either CS or doom 3. honestly my only REAL complaint with the game is the aiming. it feels REALLY CLUNKY and takes some getting used to. everything else to me is minor stuff like only being able to carry 2 guns. when you have an armory like duke nukem forever's it's better to let you carrry more of the weapons so you can sample them.

Honestly I think the gameplay isn't "Dated" enough. From the start I would expect the sequel of Duke 3D to play out similarly to a mid-to-late-90's shooter, and not so much a game from the post-Halo era.

The problem with Duke Nukem Forever was perfectly summed up by TotalBiscuit saying that it didn't feel like Duke Nukem. You're restricted to the modern shooter mechanic of a two weapon cap (thanks to console gamepads not having enough buttons)and a totally on rails experience. The game didn't incorporate anything that made Duke Nukem great, thus become another generic FPS in a saturated market with the Duke Nukem persona slapped on the front.
I think people were expecting gameplay from the 1990s (nonlinear arena-like areas, completely unrealistically fast-paced action and movement speed, accessing every weapon at once. You know, like Painkiller.) and not the early 2000s (I would call it the "dark age" of gaming when games weren't fun anymore yet weren't all that story-driven either).
It dosent feel old nor new... i was dissapointed because of the GAMEPLAY and EXPLORATION restrictions that this game had aside from DUKE3D wich was perfect.
I tried to have fun but all the time forcing me to take cover and only have 2 weapons and almost don't enjoy the explosive weapons since I had to refill with a box all the time just ruined it for me.... this game was garbage and no funny lines what so ever.. I just hope the next game is better. This wasn't a Duke nukem game. this was a CoD game with Duke paint job.... Duke nukem isn't a CoD game but should be more like Serious Sam game....

Im sick of freaking COD and Reach tards bitching about everything thats different about Duke Nukem compared to other popular gaming franchises. I shouldnt really bother insulting them though, theyre only lazy 12 year olds who literally BEGGED their parents to let them buy Call of Duty.

I just want to make it clear that it was one of my favourite games as a child and it deserved to be made in this new era of gaming. Just accept it and move on, I dont want to bash this game, I just think its not worth making a big deal about for the few people that like it. you can only hold 2 guns at one time, everithing is hard-skripted and dont alow for exploration
its been dumd down till the game is basicly just a coridor were every door exept one is locked, and there is a giant arow pointing at the unlockt one....
Its a game for 9-year-olds that throw the controler to the wall at the first sing of a challenge.

This game only appeals to young teens who enjoy bathroom jokes. I mean really the game opens up with Duke pissing, am I suppose to find that funny or amusing? Sure maybe if i was still immature and still in middle school. There's also the fact the game plays and looks like 90's game.
If i didn't know any better, I'd say 2k released this pile of shit just to get it over with and continue on with the Duke Nukem franchise.

meh game was fine to me and i never even played duke nukem 3d or any other game for that matter, most retro shooter i've played is either CS or doom 3. honestly my only REAL complaint with the game is the aiming. it feels REALLY CLUNKY and takes some getting used to. everything else to me is minor stuff like only being able to carry 2 guns. when you have an armory like duke nukem forever's it's better to let you carrry more of the weapons so you can sample them.

If you don't like the jokes okay, but then don't buy the game and be surprised how offensive the jokes are.
From the gameplay, this is exactly what I expected, considering that most levels in the game were probably made in 2000-2005.

Honestly I think the gameplay isn't "Dated" enough. From the start I would expect the sequel of Duke 3D to play out similarly to a mid-to-late-90's shooter, and not so much a game from the post-Halo era.

The problem with Duke Nukem Forever was perfectly summed up by TotalBiscuit saying that it didn't feel like Duke Nukem. You're restricted to the modern shooter mechanic of a two weapon cap (thanks to console gamepads not having enough buttons)and a totally on rails experience. The game didn't incorporate anything that made Duke Nukem great, thus become another generic FPS in a saturated market with the Duke Nukem persona slapped on the front.

I think people were expecting gameplay from the 1990s (nonlinear arena-like areas, completely unrealistically fast-paced action and movement speed, accessing every weapon at once. You know, like Painkiller.) and not the early 2000s (I would call it the "dark age" of gaming when games weren't fun anymore yet weren't all that story-driven either).

I tried to have fun but all the time forcing me to take cover and only have 2 weapons and almost don't enjoy the explosive weapons since I had to refill with a box all the time just ruined it for me.... this game was garbage and no funny lines what so ever.. I just hope the next game is better. This wasn't a Duke nukem game. this was a CoD game with Duke paint job.... Duke nukem isn't a CoD game but should be more like Serious Sam game....
