  • u r all wrong! Frank DellaPenna is Awesome! And if u have not seen him in person U R missing out! And the costume was His Idea . Go to his website and read why instead of being ignorant! The Falcon We Love Him! and boring that is not in the Vocabulary!

  • What the fuck is wrong with you? let me see you try to play this thing..the poor guy was told to do this bc his music was kind of boring to some people so they told him to dress up.. he plays really great stuff and hes the only one who can do it many have tried but they dont know how he built it and hes going to be on OPRAH haha, try to appreciate what he is doing and if you dont leave your commentst o yourself and if it was so worthless to you you wouldnt have wasted your time commenting..

  • @ilovemusic1408 He is not the only one that plays the carillon there are others that play it very well but i have to admit the guy was fantastic I saw him at the Renaissance in Colorado this year for the first time as in live in England UK

  • i meant that they made him do it because it might help him get better recognized..i could care less if people think he is boring, that wont get rid of him. your incompetence to appreciate this doesnt hurt anyone either, your just wasting your time like i said.

  • its sad how ignorant you are. Don't watch it if you don't enjoy it. Its amazing that he is carrying on an extremely old form of musical art which is no longer seen today.

  • @Miserlymom

The only "amazing" thing about it is that easily-impressed people like you think it's something special. It's not. It's a dope in a bird costume doing cheesy moves playing dull bells songs that all sound identical.

  • @eric20ike You would think otherwise if you saw him in person or even had an inkling of how rare an art form it is or even how difficult it really is.

  • i dont really care about his mask.he played the exorcist theme song at the pittsburgh festival and it was amaaazinggg(:

  • I saw this guy a bunch of times at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA. Awesome stuff. Bought the video album, is great.

  • i saw this dude at the rennisance fair yesterday

  • He wears black and the phoenix mask because throughout history people didn't see the guy playing the corillion, because that guy was inside the bell tower.

  • WROOOONG! Carolina Renfaire.

  • This is at Scarborough faire i do believe his name is Frank Dellapenna. I don't really reconize the song but I think its from "Genesis" im not sure.

  • ooh I saw him today! =)

  • Goofy getup, but very entertaining to hear!

  • Talk about "Heavy Metal - 4 tons of it. That is Heavy. Really wonderful piece. Shining example of the versatility of even the most acneint and unusual of instruments.

  • His "bird beak" mask and attire is repulsive and revolting.

    But great, friendly player.

  • I think it just adds to the mood. Makes it more mysterious, you know? But no matter how he dresses, he's fantastic. I hope he'll be at Scarborough when I go. :3

  • Yes, definitely adds mysteriousness.

But many are repulsed by it.

There is nothing mysterious about a carillon.

It is a fascinating, challenging instrument which I am still trying to master.

Frank brings such subtlety and to musicality to raw bronze. (Well, tuned bronze.)

Too bad no one sees how handsome he is.

  • I'm not sure how people can be repulsed by it. I mean for me the way he dresses and the mask draws me in, as well as the music. The first time I saw him I actually heard the bells at a distance and followed the sound and found him. I was simply in awe and wound up buying a CD. I love his work to death.

  • "I'm not sure how people can be repulsed by it."

Really? Can't figure that one out?

The "bird beak" was repulsive to me, though am now used to it.

    But others find it revolting.

People ask why the strange "costume".

My S&M acquaintances think it's cool!

The bells and his playing are wonderful.

  • @UsagixRuki I saw him yesterday there I love seeing him preform its always so wonderful, he just put out a new CD that has no background music but saddly i couldnt afford it along with all the other goodies i bought from his booth and others

  • His "Bird Beak mask" is a pheonix and why he has it is because his last name is DellaPenna which means of the feather, he chose the pheonix because its a mythical bird who rose from the ashes.

  • Thank you.

    But who knows this?

People find it grotesque and repulsive.

In Denver's Parade of Lights Christmas Parade, Channel 9 TV was careful to avoid showing him.

All we saw were some bells, mainly one, and not his marvelous technique nor the baton clavier from which the carillon is played.

Sad, because Frank is a handsome, strong, engaging man and people go away thinking he is some S&M weirdo.

  • you do have a point. Not many ppl know this because they never 1. ask 2. try to find out.

I actually go digging for this stuff and because of it im starting to make friends with Frank. not because of his popularity but he is an awesome person and ppl can't see that all they see is the Carillon and its sad. I agree he is handsome, and strong, and his eyes are sooooooooooooo pretty I always liked brown eyes (TeeHee).

  • I admire his playing so much, even if it were just for the theatrics of his playing... The music is outstanding; I was only able to purchase one of his CD's in 2006, and wasn't able to see him at this past year's Scarborough Fair (which I go to every year, and now I can actually afford a season pass!)

I wish he would wear the feather headband/headress like he used to... It added a bit more 'drama'... Either way, it's outstanding.

  • i love this guy, i just meet him today at the renaissance fair today. he's one of the nicest people ever. he signed his cd for me and we talked for a long time. it's kinda sad though, he really wants to make an indoor concert performance but he's really having trouble finding a stage that can support his 4 ton carillon.

  • sweet i love this fair, me and my mom dress up and go with our group all the time and we always see him there. thanks for the post

  • i saw him for the first time at scarborough faire in may and i was hooked. the music is amazing :) i bought his cd and LOVE it. i need to get the others now! i go to S.F. every year and don't know why i hadn't seen him until now... hmm.

  • This guy is great! Saw him at the Arizona Ren fest... bought one of his CDs too. ^^

  • Magnificent!!! I saw him a few years ago (and several times since) at the Arizona State Ren Fair outside of Phoenix. He was GREAT!! Never had seen a Carillon before, and was enthralled. He is a very nice man, and very talented, and I hope to see him again next year.

  • On behalf of Frank; I would like to thank you for your devoted attention to his Carillon playing. Please encourage your local Symphony Orchestra to have him play with them.

  • yea he's also been at the Colorado Renissance Festival... he is amazin, i jus recently saw him (saw him on jun. 24th 2006) and we bought 4 of his cds...
