  • i was once told there are no bad pipers, some are just better than others.

  • whats the first tune?

  • so great.. so awesome.. :-)

  • Great job guys. I just started out this year. I'm moving from the chanter to the pipes Friday. I hope one day i'll be up there with you guys in grade level I mean :)

  • they played thtat in the Worlds 2007

  • What's the opener here? Is it a Tully tune? Any help is much appreciated. Cheers

  • @qosbhoy its 'June Rollo's Ronnie' wittne by Micheal Grey and Bruce Gandy

  • Bottom line ladies and gents..give respect to your fellow pipers----young, old, street or open...we all play this difficult instrument because we enjoy it!!!! Done...now someine get me a shot if Tully

  • Good for the Irishlads and St Laurences.

  • what tunes?

  • HOT. i love this.

  • I was on a course with Bruce Hitchings and Dixie ingram last week and Bruce was wearing a T-shirt from the Manawatu pipe band.I have heard of them before but I dont know what grade they play.Gaelicpiper shut up! slagging people and then talking your way out of it??

    Stop slagging people.

  • Manawatu are from the north island in New Zealand. They are grade 1 and have won the NZ champs for the last 4 or 5 years and have competed a number of times at the worlds over the last 5 years.

  • The Eleventh commandment.....

A Piper will not slag a piper.Everybody has trouble with a Birl or some embellishment no matter what grade.

  • Fuckin' right mate. That's what drummers were invented for!

  • I just love the music ... thanks for posting this

  • Manawatu pb are the best, mon the tu!

  • mon boghall !

  • Actually for the record Manawatu were placed higher in some of the piping than SLOT at the 2007 Worlds, so they did pretty well. Given that we are only judging a quartet here we can't bring the whole band into it anyway. I'm sure there is four great pipers in a lot of Grade 1 bands.

  • For the record actually in 2007 the only major SLOT & Manawatu met in was the Worlds.Manawatu did better than Slot in the qualifiers but Slot finished 6th to Manawatu's 9th.They also competed against each other in the Worlds in 2005 and 2003 and on each occasion Slot fared better in the final placings.Manawatu have not beaten Slot to be accurate.

  • You're right in what you have said, they haven't beaten SLOT outright in a contest but I didn't say they had. I was merely saying a couple of judges in the medley gave them a 5th and 6th and to come across from the other side of the world to do that, then it deserves some credit. Most of all, no bands at this level deserve to be insulted like some of the posts I have read.

  • That was exactly my point.I have no doubt that the bunch of lads in Manawatu do exactly the same as Slot, yourself and myself i.e.spend thousands of hours getting tunes ne correct & only for the initiated to truly appreciate the work & dedication that went into it.I will never play grade 1 but have nothing but respect for those who do & those who learn at 40 and join a steet band after years of wanting to play but being too busy with work/family. I really hate to see pipers criticising others.

  • C'mon Lads lets just enjoy the Music!! none of this 'My Bands better than yours Crap'!!

  • i ove them tunes

  • hey.....chill out....its only Piping....!

  • SLOT and SFUPB are pretty much my two favorite pipe bands of all time. SLOT has come out with in my opinion some of the best medleys that the piping world has seen in a very long time.

SFU has some damn good ones out there, but SLOT wins it i think.

  • Christ that very musical!

Good solid tone as well, nice one!!!!

  • Brialliant!!!

  • Excellent stuff lads. no guesses who you play with blatant68 ye knob jockey.

  • haha excellent deduction

  • yeh....a bit fuzzy for only 4 pipers, harsh hiA's too. Manawatu PB's was outstanding. someone should stick that on here if they have it.

  • Who the fuck are Manawatu PB? Where the fuck is Manawatu? How many CDs have they sold recently? How did they do at the Worlds/Cowal/All Ireland Championships this year? What Grade are Manawatu? Are they all professional musicians like most of Slot are?

  • jeez calm down mate! fair enough comment from blantant68 i reckon and you absolutly lose it !?

  • This Youtube is full of half-wits who slag off learners that are doing their best & need encouragement or pipers who are far superior to the fools passing judgement on them.I have never heard a decent musician slag off a learner or a far superior one & every genuinely quality piper I have met would do neither.Unless the bloke wittering on about these pipers is better than them he should keep his mouth shut.I can hold my own but that does not give me the right to criticise others doing their best
