okok heres some facts. the woman being attacked was heather boswell, obviously by a great white. the shark attacked the first time due to obvious reasons, she splashed screamed ect. the second time it came around was because it felt threatned by the red boat that was trying to help her, it saw it as a threat. a great white doesnt always hit at full speed. if it did the impact would be almost instantanious death, its like being hit by a train. and yes she had both legs bitten ^^

@shiva601 i doubt it came back because it felt threatened, whites are very cautious they cant take the risk of being hurt. as a rule sharks dont like the taste of us so chances are the shark was injured, old or to sick to find its normal prey. or since after it took her leg off it went after another swimmer nearby you could go with the theory of a rogue shark. and they dont come to shallow water out of desperation least not all the time. they come for the seals

The facts are wrong here. Other sources report that the shark did not come out of no where. Another swimmer was slightly hurt by it first, then the girl. And the "attack" was actually pretty slow compared to what a Great White can do. All evidence seems to be that this was an exploratory move by the shark and it was not feeding. She did lose one leg, but both legs had been touched by the shark.

Sharks dont mean to attack humans, they only attack because they are provoked, or the humans look like their food, thats why surfers and divers get attacked the most, they look like fish... thats scary for that girl though.. at least she didnt die.

They did a segment on an Australian current affairs show (can't remember which one), where the victim was reunited with the guy who pulled her from the jaws of death. Interesting. Definately real (altho the footage is LAME). I think she only lost one leg. Still... u got more chance of dying in a car crash than being eaten by a shark. Did that ever stop u from DRIVING? Shark fear, whilst understandable, is pretty unneccassary. It's primal. More ppl die in car crash. More from smoking etc etc

i havent been swimming in the ocean. for the same reason i dont go jogging through the african savannah; because i dont wanna get eaten by something that lives there.

getting eaten on land is one thing, where you can at least see whats coming, but in the water you have almost no visibility, no way of protecting yourself, and no idea what could be swimming right under you.

people who get eaten by sharks and such deserve everything they get. maybe they will learn to leave these creatures alone

if you swim in the ocean its a risk you take. But its like a 0.000001% chance you'll even be attacked by a shark and only like 5 out of the like average of 70 or 75 people around the world attacked every year dies. Swim in the ocean, its amazing. Better yet, go scuba diving, its like being in space and on another planet at the same time. Its incredible. A lot cheaper than going to mars too.

We ASSUME it is because our silhouette when swimming may resemble to that of a seal (not the color of the suit).

We can also be 75% sure that it is not because we 'smell' or 'taste' good, because there i known case where a human gets eaten. All knows cases are only bites and then the shark leaves

There has actually been some evidence that brightly colored suits attract sharks easier than say a dull colored suit. I didn't know it was a great white. I heard somewhere that it was a deep ocean shark. Great Whites tend to be costal predators.

South Pacific off Chile is home to some of the most aggresive sharks known to man. South Africa is the worst spot for aggresive sharks.

Oh boy, well, that's why I've always said I'd never swim in the ocean! This woman freaked out and that's what cost her. If a shark is onto you , you're supposed to float on the surface of the water and lie as still as possible, not flounder about like a wounded or panicked animal, which is exactly what she did. There have been reports of people who survived while there was a feeding frenzy going on because they liad perfectly still on their backs. Sharks don't think you're prey. Hopefully.

Many scientists discount mistaken identity these days. Great whites taste with their mouths and they have very sensitive organs which tell them the "fat content" of what they have bitten and decide rapidly whether the energy it would take to eat and digest the victim is worth what they would gain. They test the victim with their mouths so it isn't as is the shark says "hey that's a seal I'm going to eat it" They have no clue what it is.  That woman chose to take a risk, she just lost.
