@jakeharris2010 No, what she has is a good job in the city, and if she doesn't do it she'll be out working in the fields tomorrow.
Where do people get this idea that socialist states have a gun to everyone's head all the time? It's almost as if the US has a propaganda system telling them these things.
i'm quite doubtful if usual schools in nk really act like this.. if they educate the whole nation like this, then why..?? you know the civils in pyungyang are not so polite and not really well-controlled(not much educated) than foreigners believe. also they don't speak like this. language on tv and in the streets differ a lot. they usually speak in their traditional northern dialect.
@patg14 Kim Il-sung is the leader they praise as god like, unlike Kim Jong-Il (his successor) who seems to be content with Nuclear Missiles without needing a personality cult of his own.
My knowledge of the Korean language is not good enough to provide subtitles. The episode told here is about little Kim Jong il writing the phrase "Kim Il Song Chan-gun Mansee" (Long Live! General Kim Il Song!) with a Chinese bush and ink. Kim Il Song is his father, the founder of North Korea. The instructor begins her story by asking the children to say "Kim Il Song Chan-gun Mansee!" in unison.(To be continued)
Then she asks some questions such as "What kind of person is Kim Jong il?", "What kind of place is Man'gyŏngdae?", "What kind of place is Baekdu-san?" and the like, whereupon children reply "He is a great person", "Birthplace of Kim Il Song", "Birthplace of Kim Jong il" and so on. Extremely polite expressions are used whenever Kim Il Song and Joing il are referred to.
that teacher is probably being held at gunpoint if she does not tell the students how great their country is or she gets shot on sight.

@ayanuhito I'm guessing only a select few get an actual education in a school. You'll notice those kids are wearing some smart looking clothes.

they'll change soon. china finally decided to get in,
and persuaded the north to accept 60 billion-yuans
of the economical investment-funds from beijing.
news reported few days ago. nk looks like just middle
of china and korea. so dual.

At the end, the instructor asks the children to sing a song in order to show their understanding of the story.
