  • Wins of Federer in GS Finals: only Agassi and Nadal have over 5 GS Titles. Federer lost ALMOST ALWAYS against Nadal in GS finals, actually with Agassi the only real first class player that played against Federer in GS Finals.

Lendl wins in GS Finals: McEnroe, Wilander and Edberg each 6 or 7 GS Titles (Mecir and Pernfors have 0). When did Lendl lose a final? WAgainst Borg (11 GS titles), Connors (8), Becker (6), McEnroe(6) and Pat Cash (1). I think by far better players than Federer's oponents.

  • they should ban two handed backhand, it makes tennis so ugly

  • @ckarea55 haha i agree 100% with that.

  • THEY DON'T EVEN SHAKE THE UMPIRE'S HAND LMFAO

  • maestros de los que ya no hay

    gracioas por el recuerdo

  • They're still great to watch and learn.

  • can i have Lendls backhand? haha

  • lendl's backhand is still intimidating

  • @Yellowflyte WHAT!

  • McEnroes technique really looks bad. Especially on the forehand side. I guess he would still kick my but anyway but it really just looks bad.

  • @Ceri0n He uses the continental grip, before all of us modern players started hitting with western and eastern grips to generate tops spin. Hence, Macs low flying, low bouncing, left handed shot.. if you have ever played anyone who hits like this.. it is really, really tough..

  • @Ceri0n you forget that mcEnroe played in the 70's. You can't expect the standard form back then to be the same as today's.

  • Mac has the weirdest swing.. He looks like he is playing tennis for the first time, but he is just really good..

  • man lendl looks old ! but mcroe still good and crisp !

  • @Yellowflyte you highlight your ignorance with such a question.

  • @Yellowflyte are you serious?

  • This legendary stuff is very inspirational! I am amazed at Mac's tennis. He has a very unorthodox style, his technique looks so flawed, yet the man is truly a genuinely talented player!!

  • oh my, they could easily start playing tennis again. they play better than some good players in the top 100

  • I keep watching the shot at 1:42 over and over, pure class!

  • Every time Mcenroe looked at Lendl, he gave the "Where's that passing shot now" look.

  • was great to see lendl again, and mac is as good as always,,

  • Mcenroe's racket seems very lively. He seems to get very good pace with ease! I wonder if he still uses loose strings like he used to.

  • Their game is really clean!

  • I wish Raffy would mix it up again

  • jhon e magico e indelebile!!!!!

  • excellent they both still have a lot of talent, that's why they were great.

  • How great to see these two legends performing so well! Bravo John and Ivan!

  • What's interesting is that Lendl was the benchmark for fitness during his prime, while Johnny Mac did almost no working out. Now he's the one who appears fit, while Lendl is heavy -- due in no small part to his bad back, I suppose.

  • Mac ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuullllllllllllllllllllllllzzzzz!!!

  • Ivan looks like a Hollywood actor now

  • This video makes me realize that I'm still in love with The Genious...

  • wy dis stuped old batserds is playin , liek dis madufaks suk sooooooo badd haha lol, dis is liek shit

  • "I duellanti"

  • they hit ball faster than Nadal

  • I read a while back, that mc enroe said, he wasn´t going to play competitively anymore, seem´s like he´s changed his mind..

  • McCock arrogant twat who cant bear the fact he lost in 1984.. well guess what smuck? ..this is not over..

  • @TheVeneth YOURE AN IDIOT

  • dang McEnroe looks good out there!

  • 0:39 reenactment of the match in 84

  • The older players don't play best of 3 sets at the WTC - they play a single "Pro Set", which is to 8 games by a margin of 2.

  • Sorry but I don't understand the score: Why did they play till 8-3?

  • @saikishan australian set

  • Mac hits the ball harder now than in 1980. Probably the technology ?

  • @doubts

Thats what all the greats say when asked about that. Maybe there's truth to it. I know when I tried a new generation squash raquet for the first time back in the 80's my game improved out of sight instantly.

  • @PascalsWager5 I have no doubt it's the technology. I saw a vid from 2005 (Blake vs. Agassi I think it was) where Agassi was serving and the commentator (which I think may have been McEnroe, oddly enough) said something like "man, Agassi is just serving bombs right now!"

They showed the radar and it was like 112 mph. Today, the average serve speed is like 118-120, and "bombs" are now up to 135-140.

  • When he played Wilander in his first comeback match it looked very much like Mats was giving him easy balls to hit.

What I love about this game is you know Mac is not going to give him an inch. He will try to thrash him 6-0 if he can get away with it lol :D

  • Wow, still masters!

  • Wow, their movement is a hundred times better than mine and I'm 24.

  • It is good to see both of them out there again. It is strange to see Lendl with his shirt untucked, though. Besides that, he is still the same. Good for them.

  • They still strong like horses but always acting like they from nursing homes :)

  • @dvh065 Yeah, they still got it despite the age. No wonder Marilyn Chambers and Ginger Lynn made comebacks. It all makes sense now... Finally, I see.

  • @DexterHaven49 .... Ginger Lynn. LOL

  • Who else thought Lendl took off his shirt at 1:37 lol

  • @MrJM215 noone

  • @bar78de K cool

  • Damn Mac and Lendl still got it

  • Lendl is more interested in golf.

  • two monsters, what a players!

  • OMG! They are still so good!

  • Did these old guys just play one set? What the hell is that about?

  • tennis isnt a great sports to me but maaaan.....these guys are hilarious!!!!!

  • Golden Rule #1 = DO NOT EVER FUCK WITH BIG MAC

  • Great shots by both, Lendl is getting real good, again, some more matches please.

  • Lendl is looking better but Mac is amazing....

  • This was a vicious rivalry back in the day....the contrast was amazing....glad they got back together for another match

  • 0:40 that shot was reminiscent of the one in 84, Mac''s serve casually brocken by Lendl's backhand down the court

  • Comment removed

  • Damn they look better now than when they were 23

  • Big Mac is still unbelievable good , hasn't lost anything of his genius - really some of the "old" Legends should return and get Wild Cards for Tournaments - they are missed! Nice to see Lendl again!

  • @TheBigHase THey absolutely should not get wild cards to any tournaments. As great as Mcenroe is playing, he would have no chance against anyone in the top 200, simply because he's at least 20 yrs older than most of them. However at their best, Mcenroe and Lendl could beat anyone out there today.

  • @MrPernell27 Well that's your opinion - I definitely disagree - but in Tennis there is always another factor: Experience. I am sure some younger guys would simply be overwhelmed by it. At least it would be worth a try.

  • @MrPernell27

At their best, they would not. Tennis has evolved immensely since their reign. Material, training methods, tactics, speed, power, condition. Of course, if they had undergone the training and use the materials they do now, it would have come down to raw talent again, and that they would have ;-)

  • @Funkytripz well odviously they would have to be given the same equipment and training. however given those things they would still be as dominate as there in the 80's. Mcenroe's talent and lendle's work ethic would surpass anyone out there besides. Federer.

  • @MrPernell27 Or Nadal, but to be honest I think that if Nadal or Federer had to play back when Mcenroe did then they would not have reached #1. (althought I think Federer possibly could, Nadal would be a horrible player back then because of his strange swings).

  • @kelman221 Federe could have played in any era and been a great champion. Nadal would not have even made the second week at wimbledon if he played in the 90's. The majors have all been slowed down tremendously whic helps nadal. The only place he would have been scuccesfull is the french. Players like sampras, becker, mcenroe, agassi and ivanisavic would have owned him

  • @MrPernell27 I agree Nadal would get owned if he tried using his same play style back then, but Federer would certanintly not have done near as well back then either, more level playing field and more competition. Time to get off the Federer bandwagon and admit it my friend.

  • @kelman221 Federer would have adjusted to anything because his tremendous natural skills and hand eye coordination

  • @yianpap We will never know, but by that arguement Nadal would hae adapted just as well because his hand eye coordination is just as good, of not better, than Federer's. But my point is that Federer would not have been near as successful back then as he was now, just because of all the other great players and the limitations of the time period. I know it is hard for over-zealous Fed fans to admit, but to deny this fact is kind of silly.

  • @kelman221 You think Nadal is just as naturally gifted/talented as Federer is??Thanks for the laugh. Nadal's success is clearly owing big time to the new racquet technology that allows his huge spin&the fact the courts have all been slowed down. He's a relatively one-dimensional player compared to RF.

" over-zealous Fed fans"? You make it sound like some sort of disease lol.

Most great figures of the game agree that Federer is the greatest of all time and you honestly are sounding kind of silly

  • @yianpap People who play like Nadal are naturally gifted, or they wouldn't be able to play like that. You are soudning kind of silly with your ignorane and complete bias. If over-zealous Fed fan sounds like a disease then maybe it is, it sure seems like one. I think you fit in to that category anyway because you have failed to see my point in al of my posts and argue about nothing. Is it really that hard to admit your precious Federer would not have won near as much in the era of McEnroe and ect

  • @kelman221 "People who play like Nadal are naturally gifted, or they wouldn't be able to play like that" Do you always have to simplify everything and cannot see nuances?

Of course he's gifted, very nuch so. But not nearly as much as Federer,

"Your precious Federer", you're such a laugh

  • @yianpap Thanks for seeing the humour in my comment, but your statement of not Nadal not being nearly gifted as Federer is obviously wrong. you are iether extremely biased or know little of tennis if that is what you truly think. In case you haven't noticed, Nadal doesn't have the technical teachings of Federer, he learned to play from himself and some infulence from his uncle/father. If anything, that means Nadal has more of a gift, but each to his own I guess.

  • @kelman221 Well now I think you're taking it too far. How come Nadal didn't have the "technical teachings"? I think his family was wealthy enough for that no? If anything, I can tell you that if he had had the "proper teachings" he wouldn't have been made to be a left hander and his advantage to Federer would have been not for example. He probably wouldn't play with such extreme spin either. And if RF was born in Nadal's family, he'd probably be more of a street fighter and tougher to beat.

  • @kelman221 Basically, what I'm saying is that hypotheses like that make no sense.

At the end of the day saying that Federer would've just won "a few" in other eras, means 'you' are biased, as most experts agree Fed is the best ever.

Federer has had super-hard opposition in the face of Nadal (who is incredible by the way), without Nadal Fed would've won 20-25GSs and 2 calendar GSs.

  • @yianpap Yeah, Nadal the only high level player that time of Federer's prime. I am sorry but there was a huge lack of competition. That is my point, he wasn't taught what most peope consider technicaly sound tennis. With some push in the right direction he came up with a unique style that we have never seen before. My arguement is that Federer does not have more of a 'gift' per say, and i provided a sound arguement. You have not proven me wrong yet, and we both know competition was lacking

  • @kelman221 "Huge lack of competition"?? You crazy? First of, Nadal is not merely "high level", he might well go down as the second most successful player ever. What about Djokovic? He did beat Roger in a GS in his prime no? He's quite high level too.

What was your sound argument again? That he adapted perfecting a unique style?

I don't need an argument strictly as I don't consider myself an expert, so I told you what most experts & great players think. RF's the best and not due to his teachings

  • @yianpap Umm the I woykd generally call someone high level if the yare highly successful, like Nadal. I am not sure why you are wasting your time with subjective meaning of wording and avoiding my point. Federer had very little competition during most of his wins. Nadal was the only player to beat Federer and that was only mostly on clay until Nadal started to hit his stride so to speak. And you say beaing taught to play and having very strong technical teaching as a child didnt help him be the.

  • @kelman221 the best? Lol, what a fantasy world you live in. The only true rivalry Federer had was Nadal and that was at the end of his career, and for some reason Nalbandian owned him. The competition was much more fierce in the older generations, not because of the lack of talent, but because of the abundance of talent. I am not saying Federer ISN'T the best tennis player, but we will never know for sure. to say that any 1 person is the best at anything in history is very subjective.

  • @kelman221 you're insane if you can't see that Federer would have been a great champion in ANY era. "He plays the way we used to" Illie Nastase, " i've never seen anyone better" Rod Laver

  • @MrPernell27 I never said he couldn't win a few, but the competition was more fierce back then and people had to play a lot differently. I don't think I have to name some of the people that would have beaten him out from time to time.

  • @TheBigHase That's what happened with Thomas Muster! He came back for the year

  • Loved Mc Enroe when I was 16, love him now. Great player.

  • good ol jp still competetive , looked liek he enjoyed that victory over lendl , old score settled for john maybe

  • McEnroe, the BEST...

  • lendl is playing a lot better in this match he started the tour very rusty

  • @ricappon I look forward to seeing Lendl get back on his horse.... for many years it was stated he had degenerative back disease????

But anyway you know I have a pic of Mac and Jimmy hanging out after a match a few years ago, would be cool to see these guys too. Life is too short you know, and they both recognize what their rivalry did for tennis was a beautiful thing, overall.

I want Mac to beat him by 8-6 ever time LOL.

  • @ricappon its because he golfs like crazy

  • Lendl sweats a lot during is career, but he was still fit. Now he played his last game 1994 and than come back 2010 Senior Tour. I saw him versus Mats and he was very bad, but now he was better. He practiced a lot with professionals. On youtube I saw him practiced with Hewitt. My dream is play once versus John McEnroe he was my idol and he is in good shape, now.

  • @kokser29 I saw Lendl play Leconte yesterday in Zurich and indeed he got a lot better since he started on the Champions Tour just a few months ago. He had also already won his first round robin match against Stich. And of course according to Goran Ivanisevic McEnroe is still the fittest player on the senior´s tour, considering that he is one of the oldest as well. :) Nevertheless McEnroe was the dominant player on the Champions Tour for many years, winning 21 or 22 titles so far.

  • @ChristianPaul75 I envy for watching Lendl against Stich. I can't understand why Stich lost this match. He is playing more often and he is playing in Germany with young and good guys from Hamburg. I think that sometimes he players talk before the match who will win the match, because the audience are important not the result. Last year Leconte won against Rios, it is unbelievable. But McEnroe wasn't there because he has an injury and Sampras played. Perhaps I will fly to London for the final.

  • @ZebZachary I agree, he is in fantastic shape, quick and agile compared to his peers

  • Lendl is sweating heavily after only 3 games.

  • Good match. Both tough players! Remember though, Lendl has a carreer head to head lead over McEnroe, but McEnroe has been playing consistently while Lendl had to take years off. Good to see these guys going at it though and I hope they are a little friendlier to eachother and appreciate the matches they were a part of.

  • @AnthonyGF True Lendl did have head to head over Mac but of course meanwhile Mac was top doubles player as well......

  • mac should win; he's been playing the old man's tour for years now while lendl just came back to the game like 2 months ago

  • Good to see Lendl back.

apparently he was 50 kg overweight a couple yrs ago...I think he's more interested in golf these days....plays off a 2 handicap i think?

  • mcenroe the best

  • Thx! Haven't seen Lendl playing for ages! He still can play! Nice indeed! Two immortal champs of a wonderful sport!
