Superb film. The climb out of Salisbury to Warminster is tough. GWR Castles had no problem, but in the early sixties on a Southampton to Bath Express, a Grange class locomotive stalled pulling a heavy train over Salisbury Plain
@robmasterman Thanks Bob. It's very rare, but this time, definitely right place right time! And very rare that a steam engine fails let alone stop at Warminster! A rare sight indeed!
You can see as she climbed the bank that she was blowing off hard and the injector on the right hand side of the cab (live steam? or exhaust) was venting steam and water onto the track, a member of the footplate crew can be seen ducking his head out of the cab window
Should've kept the 59 on the front all the way back. So was it a faulty injector then? or did someone just forget to turn off the water valve? But they let it carry on back to Poole?
@AndreiTupolev The 59 ended up hauling the train back, I believe the Brit was taken off at Westbury. She was chucking out a load of water out of the right-hand Injector up the bank, but the Tender Water was low, so, that might have been the reason.
The footplate crew were all hanging out of the cab windows looking at something under the loco as it arrived at Warminster. They can be seen doing that on this video too at one stage..............
