I took my bios stove out last week and had a very dismal experience. I had high hopes, and Tinny's bios always seems to blossom out and burn like a champ. Mine burned like a chimp, unfortunately. I used denatured alcohol from the home center. Clean and poured correctly. I couldn't get a boil from a heiny pot--the water was just warm after several minutes, then the 1.5 oz of fuel ran out. In the meantime I had a noisy Svea boiling away next to it. I trust the bios--but how do I use it?
kc7fys, email via the contact page of my blog. I'll shoot another video just of the bios2 for you. How much water were you trying to boil? Also the pot using was it one of Tinnys 24oz heiny pots?
The BIOS are not designed to work with the heiny pots, the base is too small, I use a coke can stove with holes drilled around the inner rim specifically for the heiny pot and my compact 400ml tin. If you use a wide pan or fry pan this will suit the BIOS better, just got a couple from Tinny and yet to try them but have high hopes, intend to carry one extra with a shallow pan for the odd frying
The wind shield will also keep heet from escaping around the pot by reflecting it back onto the stove and pot and all those pine needles around the stove can suck heet away from the stove to solve this place a bit of tin foil underneath the stove to reflect heet back up onto the pot but never put alcohol on that bit of tin foil because it will burn the wick and weaken it!!!
Read the directions and use a wind screen on a NON FLAMMABLE SURFACE. The ETA power pot will not work without a wind screen in the wind. Smokey the bear would be upset. With a windscreen and out of direct wind the Bios and ETA will boil in half the normal time---Have a great day !!
Why do you think I will fly to London and rain all over him. He simply forgot to use a windscreen and any stovie knows that is a no no with alcohol stoves, especially with a flux ring. Any alcohol stove would perform badly in that scenario. The ETA power pot is an excellent pot if used correctly and will save 1/2 your fuel with any stove.

It was my own heine pot--the point is, my stove didn't bloom out like tinny's does in the videos. My email is kc7fys at the popular yahoo doman.

what wind? there was no wind.
So that was not a factor in this case.
I know when to use a wind shield.

Fire Safety Caution!
Stove should be operated on a non-flammable surface.
Place on a rock or scrape away duff down to mineral soils.
The gravelly trail surface would work quite handily.
Have Fun & be Safe.

Nice day to be out with your hiking pals.
I didn't know border collies liked coffee?

The ETA flux ring is an efficient heat exchanger and is doing just that.
Areas exposed to flame will pick up heat.
While areas exposed to cool breeze will be stealing heat away from pot.
Try it with a Tall foil windscreen, two benefits;
1. Shields the flame and holds the heat close to pot.
2. Shields the fins from Losing heat to the air.
