Now days, this 6+1/2 minute commercial would easily fit into a typical DirecTV seven commercial break. Back in the 60s, a typical commercial break lasted sixty seconds, i.e. "we'll be back in a minute after a word from our sponsors"!
The library music used in this at the beginning (the first played) was used in some 60's drive-in movie...if I'm not mistaken it was "She Freak". I love library music...nothing takes me back to the 60's as completely as good library music.
This is an unusual short film, trying to appeal to young adults that are still "groovy" but playing "the man's" game enough to want a nice refrigerator.
This "commercial" wasn't shown on TV, due to its length. It was a promotional film, primarily seen in Westinghouse showrooms, and other "point of interest" areas where a 16mm projector and screen were assembled. The producer was The Jam Handy Organization, world's leading producer of industrial and "commercial" films. By 1968, they realized a "new approach" was needed to convince the "youth market" to buy a refrigerator (the old sales talk and typical "Mrs. Happy Homemaker" images were out).
