Amazing! you have the brazilian swing. Indeed i thought you were Brazilian!. You are one of the best foreign guitarists I've ever seen playing brazilian music. (sorry my poor english).
On the other hand and just out of curiosity, I have Brian Hodel's book and I've just finished learning this piece but I noticed you played a whole section that's not on my copy of the arrangement (between 1:13 and 1:34). Is this your own addition? It's fabulous! I'm borrowing it! Are those Min7#5b9's?
@kingsqueenjude halF an hour? thats nothing, when i first found this channel, i spent the entire weekend plus monday morning with his music always playing in my room :P

Thanks troublechef for this amazing performance!!! How can somebody dislike this video? Shame on you! You have no idea waht good music is about. Thanks again for superb playing! 5 stars!
Love your playing! I am currently trying to think of the best way to learn as many Jazz chords as I can. I know the basic ones but wan to learn a more advanced, comprehensive collection. Can you reccomend a book?
I'm not sure about any books. Probably Berklee has published something. Best way to learn is just start playing around and hearing chords from your favorite music that you can't quite determine...pick up the guitar and work it on out. thanks!
absolutely amazing... i started to play brazilian guitar one year ago after watching some of your videos..i` ve tried to search this version in sheet music but i didn´t find it so I use the verison of brazil on guitar to play also this song..ill would apreciate if you could tell me your opinion about my interpretation to improve my guitar skill
I need to find out a way to learn this, I may learn it by ear, but that'll be hard since I'm not too familiar with the song (yet). I don't really want to buy a book for just one song.
i never get tired to hear you playing this beautiful song... ummm i like to play it... but some time ago i try and discover i dont have the brasilian gene needed to give the proper sound and rith, too many valses on my bag.
@Pedsampaio , lol... but Brasil its the gratest country in south america... the big brother. So we only have one option ... work harder and better than before to head up :-). Hugs to all my brasilian friends from Venezuela. Ahh if you can give me some water test anyway.
@troubleclef My bad. I was so caught up listening that I didn't notice these specific video details. I should have said, "You played it beautifully!" It seems that most of your vids are your own arrangements, no?

He takes the song to a whole new level, mixing MPB and Samba. He also played a tribute album with Tom Jobim's songs which took him 10 years to produce.
It's a great pleasure to know that some people do appreciate MPB, even if they are not Brazilians!
Wow, this is amazing, you are amazing, I've been having a bit of trouble figuring out the rhythm for this arrangement but now I can listen to your vesion and learn it well. Thanks a lot. I am also having a hard time with Se todos fossem iguais a voce from that same book. Are you doing it by any chance? ;-)
thank you. I have a version of "se todos" up but it's basically learned from one of Baden's recordings. check it out. I think I learned the Hodel arrangement a long long time ago and haven't played it since.
Thanks, I watched your Baden Powell version, I have played that one from the brazil on guitar website, but I think I like the Hodel arrangement better. No pressure, I was just wondering since you have other songs from that book recorded.
Hello I watch your videos for a long time and I was always fascinated with the arrangements you make. You are an excellent guitar player with amazing sensitivity. Are you American, working professionally with music?

ur a genius. I rarely ever dance to anything but this video literally makes me sway to the rhythm and im in freezing london lol!
as u suggested earlier in the comments, saw some joao gilberto on youtube including his 'samba de aviao' and that blew me away...
for an old guy he's still got the skills to pay the bills! i love the way he harmonises with his guitar. his lowering of the voice when he sings '...rio de janeiro copa ca baaaa-na..' is perfection and he has freakishly intuitive timing..
The best solo guitar interpretation of this piece! I have a question though. I recently learnt that piece, and from your description it looks that we both used the same source - The Brazilian Masters. But the way you play it is different and I am not talking about the middle part. In several places, your playing is rhythmically more seamless, the sheet music seems choppier and with more pauses. Have you added your own interpretation of it? And again, your interpretation is way cooler! Cheers.
I just kind of slide over things that I used to play more "correctly" as-written. Basically I just forgot how to play it correctly after a while and started playing something that seems idiomatically correct but still uses Hodel's chord voicings et cetera.
Fantastic. One of Jobim's many underappreciated treasures. I'm going to have to see if you've posted Ligia or Retrato em Branco e Preto, two of my other favorites.
