  • Amazing! you have the brazilian swing. Indeed i thought you were Brazilian!. You are one of the best foreign guitarists I've ever seen playing brazilian music. (sorry my poor english).

  • @mouramax

    thanks!

  • I'm learning this piece right now. Your technique is great! (And so is your taste in music!)

  • Great performance, as always. Congratulations.

On the other hand and just out of curiosity, I have Brian Hodel's book and I've just finished learning this piece but I noticed you played a whole section that's not on my copy of the arrangement (between 1:13 and 1:34). Is this your own addition? It's fabulous! I'm borrowing it! Are those Min7#5b9's?

  • You're great! I love your playing. You also select terrific tunes... Thank you!

  • Excelente!! mais que maravhla.....

  • this is beautiful.....it's been on repeat for about a half hour!! amaaazing :))

  • @kingsqueenjude halF an hour? thats nothing, when i first found this channel, i spent the entire weekend plus monday morning with his music always playing in my room :P

  • @molitatron ~**!that's beautiful!**~ (^^,) I know what you mean, it's been exactly the same with me for the past month :))). I wish he could put them all on itunes or something so I could listen to his music on the go! That would be like all my Chistmass's rolled into one ;p

  • Señor usted toca muy bonito

  • You played Wonderfully

  • So much GRATITUDE!

  • Who's arrangement is this and where could I get it to learn?

  • bravo!!!!

  • Thanks troublechef for this amazing performance!!! How can somebody dislike this video? Shame on you! You have no idea waht good music is about. Thanks again for superb playing! 5 stars!

  • Primoroso.

  • I get better result with a classical but this is bellissimo.

  • Primoroso! Parabéns!

  • How long will it take me to play it like you, if I have discipline and practice everyday? D:

  • @cindyaniston

Well it's hard to say. Have you played long?

  • @troubleclef no :/ i just got started

  • Toca muito bem! Parabéns! Adorei.

  • @francesa55

    obrigado!

  • masterful and a very good model to aim at ! Obrigado !

  • Love your playing! I am currently trying to think of the best way to learn as many Jazz chords as I can. I know the basic ones but wan to learn a more advanced, comprehensive collection. Can you reccomend a book?

  • @closetome

I'm not sure about any books. Probably Berklee has published something. Best way to learn is just start playing around and hearing chords from your favorite music that you can't quite determine...pick up the guitar and work it on out. thanks!

  • absolutely amazing... i started to play brazilian guitar one year ago after watching some of your videos..i` ve tried to search this version in sheet music but i didn´t find it so I use the verison of brazil on guitar to play also this song..ill would apreciate if you could tell me your opinion about my interpretation to improve my guitar skill

    greetings from Chile

  • I need to find out a way to learn this, I may learn it by ear, but that'll be hard since I'm not too familiar with the song (yet). I don't really want to buy a book for just one song.

  • 100 of those views were from me.

I bought the Hodel book - he owes you that sale.

  • I love Bossa Nova and I love how you play it! I'll try to play it as well from your video. I'll be waiting for more videos to come!

  • MARAVILLOSO HERMANO...!!!

  • if Tom Jobim himself see this video, he must be giving you a standing applause!

  • Como toca este muchacho! Wonderfull performance!

  • to much wonderful!!! your soflty fingers....

  • you are really good i love your vid i am a big fan keep it up

  • i never get tired to hear you playing this beautiful song... ummm i like to play it... but some time ago i try and discover i dont have the brasilian gene needed to give the proper sound and rith, too many valses on my bag.

  • What does they put on the water in Brazil that they have such great musicians?

  • @Pedsampaio , lol... but Brasil its the gratest country in south america... the big brother. So we only have one option ... work harder and better than before to head up :-). Hugs to all my brasilian friends from Venezuela. Ahh if you can give me some water test anyway.

  • Have you made any CD's, Tony?

  • One of my favorite Jobim compositions. You have arranged it beautifully. I wish my version was half this good! Muito bom!

  • @gnukev

thanks. but this is not my arrangement. rather it's from Brian Hodel's book "The Brazilian Masters" (see video details)

  • @troubleclef My bad. I was so caught up listening that I didn't notice these specific video details. I should have said, "You played it beautifully!" It seems that most of your vids are your own arrangements, no?

  • thanks!

  • belo violão!!!!!!!!

  • Please make a tutorial! Or tell me how to learn this. I really want to but i don't know how and have just started guitar.

  • this is not a piece for a beginning student, but check the video details to see where to obtain the book this came from.

  • Beautiful! One of the best guitar pieces I've come cross on Youtube.

  • We correct original text, but it's better!

  • adoro la guitarra brasileira!!gracias por compartirla

  • amazing touch

  • Oh, fantastic! This piece is very great!

    Ju

  • Absolutley fantastic!

    Congratulations!

    You played very well!

    Guilherme - Brazil - Atl[etico Mineiro (Galo)

Thanks, Joao Bosco, Vinicius de Morais, Toquinho, Chico Buarque.

  • Absolutely terrific!

  • troubleclef, your work is inspiring and you have an excellent taste for music. I've seen all your videos!

Have you ever heard Raphael Rabello's version of this music!? He is a great interpreter.

    Thank you very much Indeed!

    Cheers from BraziL!

  • I know Raphael but I haven't heard or seen him play this. i'll have to check into it. thanks

  • He takes the song to a whole new level, mixing MPB and Samba. He also played a tribute album with Tom Jobim's songs which took him 10 years to produce.

It's a great pleasure to know that some people do appreciate MPB, even if they are not Brazilians!

  • this is a joy to watch and hear

I wish that I could study with you

  • Great job! Your tone and touch are wonderful. I very much enjoy this song.

  • Beautiful, it always makes me sooo home sick. Your performance is fantastic Bravo!!!

  • Congratulations

    You played very well!!

    André - Brazil

  • Beautiful chords, great sound. wanted to listen over and over

  • Lovely playing - great time, warm sound. Bem-feito, amigo!

  • hey dude, It's perfect, in the right measure...You've got a fan! hehehehe....you live in Rio? If so, you could give me some class....

  • Grande Músico... Perfeito....

  • How good is this guy's left hand?

Inspirational! I want my left hand to relax just like this.

  • Maravilhoso!

    Romulo - Brasil

  • Wow, this is amazing, you are amazing, I've been having a bit of trouble figuring out the rhythm for this arrangement but now I can listen to your vesion and learn it well. Thanks a lot. I am also having a hard time with Se todos fossem iguais a voce from that same book. Are you doing it by any chance? ;-)

  • thank you. I have a version of "se todos" up but it's basically learned from one of Baden's recordings. check it out. I think I learned the Hodel arrangement a long long time ago and haven't played it since.

  • Thanks, I watched your Baden Powell version, I have played that one from the brazil on guitar website, but I think I like the Hodel arrangement better. No pressure, I was just wondering since you have other songs from that book recorded.

    Thanks again

Any other good brazilian books out there?

    Mario

  • Hello I watch your videos for a long time and I was always fascinated with the arrangements you make. You are an excellent guitar player with amazing sensitivity. Are you American, working professionally with music?

I have some videos here too. Congratulations, 5 stars always!

  • Thanks. But no credit to me for this arrangement. This arrangement is by Brian Hodel. See video details.

I'm an American, but not a pro musician.

    cheers.

  • some of the parts sounds like Nat King Cole's "LOVE"

  • really nice groove

  • Puta que pariu!

  • Thanks for sharing such a great piece of music!

  • ur a genius. I rarely ever dance to anything but this video literally makes me sway to the rhythm and im in freezing london lol!

as u suggested earlier in the comments, saw some joao gilberto on youtube including his 'samba de aviao' and that blew me away...

for an old guy he's still got the skills to pay the bills! i love the way he harmonises with his guitar. his lowering of the voice when he sings '...rio de janeiro copa ca baaaa-na..' is perfection and he has freakishly intuitive timing..

  • thanks. João is definitely the man.

  • The best solo guitar interpretation of this piece! I have a question though. I recently learnt that piece, and from your description it looks that we both used the same source - The Brazilian Masters. But the way you play it is different and I am not talking about the middle part. In several places, your playing is rhythmically more seamless, the sheet music seems choppier and with more pauses. Have you added your own interpretation of it? And again, your interpretation is way cooler! Cheers.

  • I just kind of slide over things that I used to play more "correctly" as-written. Basically I just forgot how to play it correctly after a while and started playing something that seems idiomatically correct but still uses Hodel's chord voicings et cetera.

  • !!!!!!!! muito bom!!!!!

    excelente mesmo!

    vc ta de parabens! cara

  • this guy kicks so much ass

  • Bravo!

  • awesome :) i like very much the tune, and you're a first class executor

  • Master :)

    thank you

    Andrea-Roma-IT

  • Do you play anywhere like the local pub or anything? I would definately pay to see you play on a regular basis!

  • Shoow

    parabens

  • Your play is just too amazing...

  • This is how to play it! Swinging Bossa...

  • bravissimo

  • Fantastic. One of Jobim's many underappreciated treasures. I'm going to have to see if you've posted Ligia or Retrato em Branco e Preto, two of my other favorites.

  • Thank you for this magical music. God bless you.

  • eres el mejor con la acustica

  • Incredible!!!!

  • Hey! You are still there!

Any chance of posting you version of Berimbau again?...

    Maybe next year?

  • How many years you have to music? ... very incredible harmonization ... .. I am Brazilian, I love bossa-nova ..

    congratulations..

  • thanks. 33 years

  • Parabéns, demais!!!!

  • Amazing!

Certainly one of the greatest executions of a music from Tom Jobim ever made by a foreigner. Thank you very much!

  • Muito muito legal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • obrigado

  • REALLY REALLY REALLY BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Your playing really touched me. Thank you for posting this

A fantastic rendition of an incredible song by the great Jobim

  • I honestly thought you were Brazillian based on your playing! Imagine my surprise when I checked out your profile!

  • Great!

  • Now I hear how I should play this piece. You put a Bossa swing in it. Very nice!

  • I'm portuguese and appreciate bossa a lot. In fact, I've start playing it about two years ago. I've heard other great players performing the songs you play here, including the original composers. I must say that your performances are much more objective and 'clean', without loss of great feeling and technics. Very rare!...Congratulations!!

  • thank you very much

  • I am loving your playing and am looking for a new guitar at this time. May I ask what guitar you play?

  • check video details of any clip for guitar info. thanks.

  • do you watched a version of nelson faria of this song?

  • yes! fantastic player and version. i want to learn the way he plays it too. cheers.

  • Applausi : BRAVISSIMO

By the way, for how long have you been playing the Guitar?

  • 33+ years. Thanks for watching.

  • It's been said so many times about all of

your videos, but this is really great stuff!

I'm mostly a nylon string player, but really

enjoy your steel string work. It'd be great if you were my neighbor!

  • thanks. this one is nylon string, btw. cheers, neighbor.

  • i wanna go to brazil and live there... i love bossanova!

  • great !!!

  • Brunohco,

I love this version too but the greatest version of that standard was given by Baden Powell himself on the LP "Felicidade", one of the most important albums as far as acoustig guitar is concerned: absolutly divine !

  • Man, i'm brazilian, but never seen someone play this song so well by the guitar.

    Really Great!

    Greetings from Brazil

  • Man, I'm a Brazilian, a bossa nova lover and I gotta say that this is by far one, if not the best, version of "Samba do Avião" that I have ever heard in my life! Congratulations man!

  • brunohco, I love this version too but the greatest version of that standard was given by Baden Powell himdself on the album "Felicidade"- a tremendous album...

  • Yikes - just awesome - I can tell alot of work when into your playing. You have that true latin sound and feel.

    GREAT

  • thanks!

  • you are by far my favorite youtuber.

I have listened to this a thousand times. Each time I do it I discover a subtle move I hadn't noticed. amazing.

    greg (humble guitarist)

  • thanks, Greg

  • Once again troubleclef, you inspire and educate me. Got the music and have stopped and started your video a thousand times in order to get your rhythmic subtleties and slight mods to the print. Here's to knowing you when.

  • this is best playing the Samba do Avião!

    muit obrigado!!

  • Beautiful!

  • Just Wonderful!

  • hi master do you can send me the tabs of samba de aviao and berimbau ??

    thank you

  • no tabs. pepsi. the scores are still in print. check amazon dot com and gspguitar dot com. Search amazon for "Brian Hodel". Search GSP for "Baden Powell"

  • I have to hear it again and again....

  • Nice. Thanks!

  • this seems to be a hard one. excelent!

  • ah...but does not bossa nova include jazz and samba, becoming bossa nova in itself? it's unique in itself, a rhythmic style soothing to the heart and ears...

    minha va canta...

    eu, so rio de janeneiru...

    estoy morenu de saudade...

    escha samba sa porque

    rio a o de voce

    amoena va samba

  • man, my portugese sucks...

  • very nice!

  • Very good! Bravo! :)

To the ones who loved it, search for the original version played by Antônio Carlos Jobim (Tom Jobim) and sung by Miúcha (Chico Buarque's sister). Just search for "Tom Jobim e Miúcha - Samba do Avião" on Youtube.

  • bravo, bravo, bravo

  • Really Nice!

  • perfect, period.

  • beautiful!

  • I've been re-watching many of your videos lately and admire u more each day. And I have a request for you... what about playing 'um abraço no Bonfá' one of these days? Pense nisso;)

  • thanks. "abraço" is a great piece. i have the music and have worked on it in the past but never quite got it down. it's a tough one.
