You are right. This is plain shit. In my boyhood I knew the Kalin Twins version and a bunch of more or less awful French covers but none were as bad as this one.
This guy looks like an Orangutang having a fit - didn't Showaddywaddy do a cover version of this, or maybe Darts, I don't know but it stinks big time.
I recently discovered this on one of my 70's compilation albums and wondered why I hadn't heard it before. It's absolutely fantastic. And this was live! What a great song. Play it loud in your car and you'll know what I mean.

The original version was performed 1958 by The Kalin Twins. John Kincade recorded it 1974, and Showaddywaddy released another succesful cover 1977.
