  • I see a few discrepancies with your video. The rotor when installed correctly should be pointing at the no.1 cyl, which would be the front right cyl as you look at it from the front. Next the dist. cap has a locking tab on it, this cap will only go in one place. So by doing this your orientation that you have the wires on the cap will be different. The no.7 and no.2 wire will be on the right and left side of the power wire port on the cap. This is for the High Energy Ignition (HEI)system only.

  • Hey great video helps alot..I dont know if you mentioned this and i wasnt listening or what, but is there a certain way your distributor cap should be facing? Like is there a right way that your cap should be??

    thx

  • life saver... man this was an awesome video....i replaced distributor cap and rotor and messed up the firing order and was goin crazy...stumbbled on this video and followed it step by step....got the f**ker going...THANX BRO!!!

  • Awesome...Great detail...Thank you...

  • This is is the best video showing firing order. What would it be for a six? I have a 1950s straight 6.

  • haha dude your video in the spot explaining the vacuum advance is what i needed to know. great job man thanks

  • YOU HAVEA GREAT WAY OF EXPLAINING THINGS SO THAT EVEN A NOVICE SUCH AS MYSELF CAN UNDERSTAND

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. I'm not a mechanic, but I was determined to replace my distributor, cap and module and install it correctly. Thanks to you, I saved money and learned something new about...my 350 Chevy Sea Ray. Take care!

  • Hey you mention around 3 minutes and just before 7 minutes that you came accross some marine engines where the firing order was backwards. is this for all chevy marine engines?

  • i got a question my chevy 350 ceanks faster on one setting and runs smother on another but if u set it to where it runs smoother it sounds like its catching when u turn it over

  • This is a great video! Thanks for taking the time to make it.

  • Thanks for the info man. If an engine is sprak knocking at any RPM doesn't that mean the timing is advanced too much?

  • hey man i got a Q... theres a problem with my camaro , it seems like the distributor cap keeps getting burned or something i changed twice and i changed the ignition coil . its still doing it . any idea what the problem could be ? cuss it d be a lot of help bro thanks

  • Novice here with a couple simple questions.

The 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2 firing order would be correct for a chevy 400 small block yes?

You said the timing can be advanced slightly by turning the cap. Which direction advances the timing? Clockwise or Counter-Clockwise?

    Excellent video! Thanks!

  • The distributor rotates clockwise, unless it is from a boat, some of those are reverse. I had a friend that couldn't time his 400, it was orginally out of a boat. So unless you have a wierd marine engine advance would be clock wise, to retard it it would be counter clockwise. I believe order is the same, not sure where you want to set advance, would depend on cam, but I'd suggest timing it TDC, and then advancing until it starts to sputter, then retard it a notch and go from there. Good luck.

  • you cant line up the tower theres is only one place it will go look at the notch in the cap ur on wrong side of the cap

  • I have no idea what your trying to say. You can line up towers, sometimes you have to pull the dizzy and turn it a tooth or two.

  • camaro4542u is right , some distributors have a small alignment notch , so , the cap only fit in one position.

    Usually scew-down type.

  • That doesn't mean you can't line up the towers through. You can still rotate the dizzy by loosening the manifold clamp and rotating the hole thing. MSD has a solid piece dizzy that you can't even open the cap, just has aligment marks on the side, thats how you line it up, rotate the whole thing leaving the engine on mark. Maybe it's my area but here everyone loosens the clamp and turns the dizzy, we call it turning the cap, never thought about litterally trying to turn the just cap.

  • nice video... thanks for posting.

  • Fantastic. Thank you.
