  • Ave Maria Translation: Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you, Blessed are you amongst women and Blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. AMEN. That prayer is called, the Hail Mary and it is said in the Rosary

PS: For those who think we ( Catholics) are " Worshiping" Mary by saying "HAIL Mary" We are not worshiping at ALL. WE ARE SAYING THE WORDS THAT THE ANGEL GABRIEL SAID TO HER.

  • and every1 knows britney spears sad whith someone out there who can sing like this every one should know Chloe

  • prefer hayley westenra.

  • Really pure original. And soft i love very much..........

  • She did an amazing job when she was so young, but now she blows it out of the park. Positively amazing how she has grown as a singer and improved this song.

  • And she was only 15 then!!

  • Someone please help me locate the LOVE button!!!!

  • Wow! Her voice! It's like an angel's! You guys should check out her version of Nella Fantasia, her voice is really beautiful.

  • This is beautiful but i think Hayley Westenra's version is flawless

  • how can people dislike this???regardless of your musical taste this is just beautiful

  • please follow @ChloeAgnew on twitter :)

  • Oh god, I heard a castrato recording of this in class today, and all I could think of was how horrible that was and how Chloe Agnew was so much better. I think my ears are healed now.

  • @TheMegaOverlord14 like what?

  • she should sing it one key higher. g is not high. it's only impressive when you hit a or above.

she's got a great voice and does her notes brilliant and has a very sweet quality to her voice. just saying that it would be even cooler if she did it one key up.

  • follow Chloe Agnew on Twitter @ChloeAgnew plzzzzzzzzzz!!! thanks xxxxxxx

  • Oh God! I love her in that outfit!

  • This song is about the Religion Christianity right? Well I am an atheist, but I Imagined myself actually seeing Jesus Christ. And I was tearing up my eyes. If there is a god like in the Bible. I hope he does exist. But certain things just basically draw me away from that Conclusion in the bible...

  • @TheMegaOverlord14 I promise you, He is real. :)

  • Simply the Best rendition i have ever heard.

  • i love her voice...i get goose bumps like this

  • its like the heavenly sounds that come out of her mouth arent even humanly possible!!! and yet, THERE SHE IS!!!! being amazing..... sighs. just fantastic. nothing more to say.

  • Same vox angelica as Connie Tabot in this song. Angels are exist . Or gandharvas ?

  • she is ok but there is no crispness to her voice

she is too breathy and she is too hard on the consonants

Hayley Westenra is far far superior to this young lady

  • voice of an angel

  • Are you sure she's human? She's an Angel!

  • why is there a stargate on the scene???

  • Take THAT, auto-tune!

    FK

  • awesome, in the most angelic sense of the world, she is my hero and she has the most beautiful voice i have heard

  • shes so amazing i wish i could sing like her! she sounds like an angel!

  • Pure cristallin voice!!! Very rare indeed...Far beyond this world. She is an Angel

  • Hahaha, 13syzgies just got bum-rushed!

  • The hardest part of Latin, for English speakers, is not allowing an "ay" sound into a word like "Ave", or "plena". The vowel should sound like the short "e" in "bed". The only "ay" sound in Latin is when you encounter "ae" together, as in the the last word of this piece - "nostrae". Even the word, "alleluia" should have no "ay" sound in it. A very difficult pronunciation habit for Americans and other English speakers to break.

  • As for the Latin, I have found it to be the EASIEST of the foreign languages to sing. It has the fewest "rules", and the fewest things that would seem weird to an English speaker. As a voice major, I have sung in Latin, Italian, German, French, and a little Spanish. German is my favorite, although the most difficult for English speakers to make some of the sounds. French is my least favorite. How do you make pretty music when so many vowels are supposed to come out of your nose?

  • ..........

    so heaven...

    im so carried away.....

  • Ten people obviously missed the "like" button.

  • 00:35 at 00:45 are so beautiful: "gratia plena". The way that she sing with the touch of the instrument.

  • Comment removed

  • Divine ;)

  • Senhora, Mãe, nos ensina a perdoar, a Amar, a sermos puras como vós.

  • Anyone who criticizes her singing needs to get their ears checked. She wonderful. And for crying out loud she's singing in a different langue! It must be hard enough. You people are just jealous of her obvious talent.

  • @13syzygies

Seriously? Have you ever sang "Ave Maria"? She makes it look easy....and its not. In the least bit. So hush.

  • @audreanna43 In fact, I have sung Ave Maria [and it is "have sung," not "have sang," by the way; please go back to your grade-school grammar books] It may not be easy, but it's not so difficult that it should have that awful accent.

  • @13syzygies Can you post the video of you singing this song so that others can critique your vocal skills?

  • @13syzygies In case you didn't know, it's called SOPRANO range. And lay off the critiscism, she is singing in Latin... and HOW many people speak Latin fluently as their first language around here? That's right- NONE. Why don't you just own up to the fact that you're jealous because you can't possibly match her clear, pure, angelic soprano voice?

  • @Kashelle357 I am a vocal major. I am a coloratura soprano. I think I know what I'm talking about. Anyone can sing with that breathy, immature tone. Fluency in Latin in not a requirement for good pronunciation. Serious, trained singers who sing in Italian as a second or third language are criticized even more harshly for mistakes less than the blatant ones Miss Agnew flaunted. You are defending a group of talentless singers and one good fiddler. Go listen to some real singers and reconsider.

  • @13syzygies Alright then Miss High-And-Mighty, go ahead and make yourself feel superior. Its just too bad that you can't see the forest for the trees

  • @13syzygies there's really no point having arguments over youtube. yes, you're a vocal major and know many things about the matter; however, this does not mean that there is any need to criticize the singer that harshly. To be fair, Ms. Agnew had to have talent to reach where she is along with luck, of course. She was not classically trained as far as I am aware but some of the greatest artists of the millennium were not either such as the gypsy violinists.

  • @13syzygies I'd like to see and hear you and let my mother listen to it. She studied Latin and her (and mine) family are all trained in all kinds of music. I bet she finds a LOT to critisize you on.

  • @13syzygies yea i was checking these women out and yea i dont think they sing by the dipthong rules..

pretty sad.. there beautiful voices wont be breath taking

  • @luvlycherry69 LOL. They already ARE breath taking. Thats why they're are so famous. No idea who you are though.

  • @luvlycherry69 You're 17 years old. What do you know, lol.

  • @Saartje05 I know a fare good amount about music thats what i know lol. and your right i am not famous thank god but i was just speaking from my point of view. how boring would our world be with out the good and bad views.and by the way i actually dont speak fluent latin but i have sang this song CORRECTLY because thank godness my choir teacher knows what he is talking about because it makes sence. thanks for your fedback though :D

  • @luvlycherry69 Our experiences with choirs is NONE of them know how to sing in Latin correctly.

  • @13syzygies Chloe Agnew is very famous because of her voice. Who are you?

  • This prayer has been set to music by numerous great composers.

u2bMODERATOR's anti-Catholic diatribe about the original intention of Schubert's "Ellens dritter Gesang" is irrelevant since the arrangement in this video is not Shubert's. The arrangement in this video is Gounod's improvisation of a melody over Bach's C major Prelude, incorporating the scripturally based prayer Ave Maria. (Luke 1:28 and Luke 1:24).

Type "Ave Maria" in Wikipedia for more on the prayer/music.

  • She is so beautiful.

  • And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.Rev 12

If u2bMODERATOR says Mary isn't Queen, who's this verse about?

    Christ=King, His Mother=Queen Mother

Christ performed his 1st public miracle early at her request; if you live in Christ, His mother is yours, as he proclaimed from the cross, "Behold, your mother."

  • @blaisepaul7 Doesn't the Catholic Church consider that woman to be Isreal? Verse 17 speaks of the remnant of her seed. Just wondering.

  • @IntoTheMystical The dragon going to war with the remnant of the woman's seed is Satan's reaction to God's curse in Gen 3:15 "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed" Again, this seed of the woman has both a specific symbolism in Christ and a general symbolism in all Christians incorporated into Christ by His grace.

  • @IntoTheMystical The sun, moon, and 12 stars do allude to Israel as symbolized in Joseph's dream in Genesis 37:9–11. But the man child of this woman is "to rule all nations" Rev 5 and be taken to the throne of God. This is none other than Christ. The woman may be seen as Israel in a general sense, as Christ is born of Israel, fulfilling God's promise of a Messiah. But the woman is Mary in a specific sense, as Christ was specifically born of the Israelite Mary.

  • @blaisepaul7 Ok, that makes sense. Thanks for the knowledge.

  • Right "R" pronunciation! <3

  • people are on here arguing over whether mary deserves a song? really? god chose mary to bear his son, out of all women on earth. then, if i'm not mistaken, mary is the only figure in all judeo-christian mythology to have been accepted into heaven without having to die. it's called the "assumption". it's one of the five joys of mary. there are legions of eastern european catholic girls named "assumpta" in mary's honor.

  • STUPENDE!

  • My dream = to be able to sing like her.

  • She has a lovely voice but i prefer Charlotte Church's version. I sing this song for my final exam at school last time but i'm having problem with my breathing.. i love this song very much.. =)

  • MESMERIZING!!

  • Nice voice!!! Shit song, about idolatry !

  • @BerryCherry0407 Well a snake has a good sound that can make a bird be hypnotized. The melody of this song is beautiful , but the lyrics not. This lyrics is a praise to a non worthy person even being the mother of Jesus. Mary was a blessed servant , not a queen , not a divinity . If you put the song by Iron Maiden 666 the number of the beast will still be beautiful over this melody of Ave Maria, but the content is not beautiful.

  • This song is in Latin and it is from Franz Schubert This is the part where is asked to pray for us : R: Holy Mary, Holy Mary L: Maria ora pro nobis, E: Mary pray for us, L: Nobis pecatoribus, E: For us sinners, L: Nunc et in hora, E: Now and in the hour, L: In hora mortis nostrae. E: In the hour of our death. Amen

  • @u2bMODERATOR There's nothing here from Schubert, he never wrote an Ave Maria. The "Schubert Ave Maria" words were written by someone else, though he did write the melody.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat Ellens dritter Gesang is the original title or Liederzyklus vom Fräulein vom See (The Lady of the Lake) . Nothing with Hail Mary . And if you read my entire thread in this conversation , you will see that i said the melody is beautiful , but not the lyrics .

  • @u2bMODERATOR Here is your post "This song is in Latin and it is from Franz Schubert". Nothing in this song is from Schubert, except the first two words.

I'd rather not read your complete diatribe because you are attacking beautiful classical music to troll a religion you dont agree with. That's ridiculously petty and pointless.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat Are you kidding me??? Nothing is from Schubert ??? The Melody is from Schubert written to a translation of Adam Storck´s of Walter Scott poem,Ellens dritter Gesang ( the Original Title) . Nothing with Ave Maria or Hail Marry . It is from "Songs for Sir Walter Scott". And Ave Maria as you wrongly say ( the first 2 words) was not written by Schubert . And the rest is a mix of a Catholic prayer and some verses from bible when Isobel felt her belly shaken by baby.

  • @u2bMODERATOR I am talking about this song, it is written by Charles Gounod, he used a prelude from Bach and called it the Bach Gounod Ave Maria. Ellens dritter Gesang has nothing to do with Gounod's song. Schubert did indeed use Ave Maria at the the beginning of his song, it was how Ellen (The Lady of the Lake) began her prayers - Schubert talks about it at length in his letters. Look up "Ave Maria lyrics - Franz Schubert" on Google.

  • @TripBoomLikeThat You just proved i was right ! This Latin Version is not the same original version linked to this melody . They used this Catholic prayer Hail Mary mixed with the Original melody That was not the original intention in German.

  • @u2bMODERATOR Of course, what was I thinking.

  • I would pay real cash to find out what exactly those 8 people disliked about this video: Bach's music? Chloe's performance? The orchestra? The scenery? The ligthning? What the hell did you dislike? Come on, people, give me your reasons and your bank accounts.

  • This gives me hope! I almost gave up on voice training because I realized that my voice would always sound kind of airy and "young"... But if Chloe can pull it off this well, then maybe I have a chance as well. (^_^)

  • she sounds like she's 10 years old..

  • @tingobingo09 Close, she just turned 15. Love the Katherine Jenkins Gounod on your home page. The organ sounds almost sureal.

  • SUBLIME!!!

  • Einfach herrlich..... Engelsgesang auf Erden!

  • i love you chloe, you are great,

    lynda

  • this may seem naive of me to ask this and I just want everyone to know I am not a musician or have any knowledge about the history of music I just love music and would like to know

Is this a BACH version or SCHUBERT version of Ave Maria?

  • @amibrowneyes Bach

  • @amibrowneyes This is a version based on one of Bach's preludes (the part that is being played by the harp). Gounod added the melody line and put in the Latin verses of the prayer.

  • @amibrowneyes This is a version based on one of Bach's preludes (the part that is being played by the harp). Gounod added the melody line and put in the Latin verses of the prayer.

  • Thanks. This has kept me alive untill now.

  • see them live they made me cry and i like iron maiden.

  • beautiful- her voice sounds almost like a violin :)

one detail prevents me from adoring it completely:

    she messed the latin words:

    1. it is SANCTA not santa

    2. NOSTRAE (read: nostre) not nostare

otherwise great esp. when we know how difficult the piece is !!!!

  • @malgosn You are right on the latin words. They detract from the beauty of the voice. I am not a musician. I am learning myself but I would much prefer the air mixture elsewhere e.g. Enya's China Roses, not for this song. Beautiful voice, nonetheless.

  • This music is more than brilliant

  • This interpretation of Chloe Agnew is heavenly, and with this wonderful song by Chloe I will like want it play this music on the day of my funeral, so that with this music I journey to the Presence of the Father, Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin . No one has overcome this interpretation in the world.

  • This is my favorite rendition of this song. She has a wonderful voice. I wish I could sing like that.

  • LYRICS:

    English Translation:

-- Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.

-- Holy Mary, pray for us sinners, now and in the hour of our death. Amen.

  • ive lost count of how many times ive watched this....Beautiful :)

  • Irish women!!!! Jesus!!!! No creature in the universe is more beautiful on the inside and out side than these fair angels!!!! Proud to be half Irish, My mommy one.

  • to hear celtic music brings me back to my childhood when i would listen to it an it would put me right to sleep. there isnt a more beautiful sound out there than celtic music an to hear her sing it's just so breathe taking an calm. there isnt a better feeling then to here her sing.

  • Beautiful song from a lovely and talented young woman.

  • LOVE U

  • Is She a angel?

  • sick

  • Ma è meravigliosamente splendida!

  • chloe i love you.

  • Parece una nena, de todas maneras, me gusta como canta.

  • Wow....

  • This little angel is sent from heaven <3

  • wow...always incredible beautiful when i hear this woman sing. if angels sing, than that's their voice. my eyes are shimmering by the feelings she sends just with her voice and her simple dress shows me that for a singing concert not the outlook is important, but the quality of voice. i am tired of all this non singers like britney spears or whoever, who can just sing simple phrases one after the other with this boom boom melodies and no important textmessage. chloe, you are great!!!

  • if she really was breathy, it would be noticeable but it's not. Her technique is amazing and difficult to accomplish (:

  • So Im watching this video, and I cant help but notice the styling (can we say visual person? *laughs*) But you know, in this setting filled with sort of opulence, I mean, there's a women with a harp in an evening gown!- But then you have Chloe, and she looks so comfortable, so, I dont know- natural. It's beautiful in it's simplicity. And it really suits the style of her music as well. Epic win for the girl willing not to be mainstream.

  • @aconite013,

    >> cant help but notice the styling

    >> women with _harp _evening gown! _then you have Chloe _looks so comfortable _natural

-- The REAL REASON Chloë's not dressed up all "gownish" is cuz she's fat!

-- In this setting the harp & (SKINNY FEMALE) harp player are both standing upright & tall. If Chloë would've worn a gown, your eyes would be unnaturally coaxed to compare the three. This would be unfair to the senses & could bring mixed emotions to what you think you're hearing.

  • Wow.

    To the previous commenter, myassdotcom:

I think your name says it all. LOL

I've played piano professionally for 21 years and have been trained vocally for about the same. She's got her own unique style and an absolutely breathtaking voice. You sir (or mam) obviously don't know what you're talking about.

Chloe is just amazing. You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to belittle someone's talent like you did.

  • @Shipslitz Bro, I'm studying a classical voice degree...i know what i'm talking about!!! She has a cute voice! i never said she was bad!!! She is breathy! Also never said she wasn't talented, i just think this song sounds more beautiful with a trained voice - hers is not.

No need to be rude about my youtube name either :(

  • @myassdotcom I agree, I have to sing this. She missed alot of the high notes in the beginning. Even with training it's a very difficult song to sing. I've been singing for a long time, I've even been training partially in opera. I can't even hit all the high notes and not waiver, or crack. It's very hard, and you can tell they used a harp to complement her voice because when played with an orchestra or piano she'd have to go higher to not be swallowed by the music.

  • she is note perfect and has good range, her voice is strong but soft and sweet and easy to listen to. i dont have a clue what you are talking about, if she is untrained and can sing like that its all the more reason she should be famous. youre an asshole

  • shes freaking amazing! what are you talking about?!? i bet you couldnt sing anywhere near as good as she does.

  • your voice is so tranquil and peaceful... i love you

  • I LOVE THIS WOMAN

  • this girl is an angel of eaven,I have never herd to sing so,I'm an artist and singer,we can say that the Holy Spirit is in her, wanderful, wanderful.

  • @52b17 And not only that, but she is WONDERFUL in MANY MANY ways. I am a musician and I play the piano and sing (among many other things) and I would love to sing with her and accompany her on the piano too.

  • @amyleeluvr

    you are very lucky.

  • @52b17 But I am not working with her yet, I am just dreaming of working with her.

  • @52b17 I agree. Chloe is such an AMAZING woman and an AMAZING singer. I saw them on September 12, 2010 and I was blown away COMPLETELY and I could honestly say that she is my favorite singer.

  • Piękna piosenka , śliczna dziewczyna , NIESAMOWITY GłOS !!!!! :) :) :)

  • I have a crush on her. :) I get so mad thinking that not enough spotlight is given to this music, and the performers in general. I hope someday that (c)rap and other god-awful modern music is replaced with this

  • @classicalman114 I agree. modern music is the same stuff over and over.

  • @classicalman114 Amen! Classical music is truly more superior than almost any other kind!

  • @classicalman114 You are so right. This music needs to have more spotlight, not just in Europe (Ireland), but also in the US.

And on a personal note, Chloe Agnew is completely the angels' angel. She is AMAZING is all ways. She is gorgeous and she really has a talent that totally floors me.

  • @amyleeluvr I'd love to hug her. ^_^

  • @classicalman114 I would too. I heard she is SO SWEET too. And I'd love to sing with her and accompany her on the piano.
