Stalin had almost no part in the 1917 Revolution. Trotsky was Lenin's right hand man, Lenin himself was the head of the Revolution in 1917 and Russia's first Leader. Trotsky's major role in the Revolution was commanding the Red Guards and then the Red Army circa 1918. Stalin was a bookkeeper at this time. Also when Lenin died Trotsky and Stalin both wanted to be leader. Stalin purged the party so he would be elected, the murder of Trotsky in Mexico.

@che0lives Stalin had recently gained power in the Soviet and wanted to remove Trotsky from his high powered position as leader of the Red Army. Stalin tried to get rid of Trotsky, and Trotsky even offered his resignation, but the Soviet wouldn't accept it. Stalin got Trotsky moved to southern Russia to push the Whites out of the country and to keep him out of the capital. Then before the Battle of Warsaw against the Polish, Stalin rejected Trotsky's battle plan which led to defeat/destruction

This song is not about Tom's personal views. It is about the history of the 2 parties (Anarchist and Liberal) and their relation between each other. They are both considered to the "left" but they usually oppose each other's views. Tom says he doesn't belong to any party but supported/voted for Obama yet thinks the president needs/needed to dumb down his leftist views a bit.

It appears you are right about Tom being an anarchist (should have searched that specifically). But he also appears to socio-political. Perhaps he is similar to my own views (I am communist as well) in which his utopian society is anarchist but his realistic views aren't as drastic.

You would think voting for a small government republican or a Independant Libertarian would be more in tune for anarchists. Communism and Socialism are maximum government. You would think the anti-goverment anarchists would be the extreme right wing in some cases.

Also, Trotsky is notorious for his play on words, his ability to cause insurrection by speech alone, and as a masterful leader of the Red Guards and Red Army. Two things. One, if you were talking about the video I think you were, then they were saying that Obama is the best choice for the country. So yes, that is not the traditional FIGHT THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT stance of anarchy, but even the anarchists have to pick a side. Revolution doesn't happen over night, and it is better if the anarchists show support to one candidate or another, because who ever the 'ruler' or 'president' is can make our jobs alot harder.

And two, they're political views have changed. I'm pretty sure they've said that straight up in interveiws too. Tom's becoming a father, and hes getting older. The anarchist lifestyle isnt easy for them him to sustain any more. He HAS sold out, but he still makes honest music. I have no doubt that he would support an anarchist revolution, but I don't think he feels he has the means to help create it any more, if you get my point.

I think its even more than that, liberals are not revolutionary, and in spite of the term liberal they are most singularly authoritarian,at least here in the states they are.
