I get the impression Jameson lacks a certain degree of fame simply due to being an American with a regular-Joe surname, rather than a colourful cigar-smoking Parisian intellectual..!!
An important lecture. If not seminal. Thanks for posting. Of course, for those who might be apprehending his work for the first time, I'd heartily recommend "Postmodernism, or, the Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism" (2005).

What on earth did you regard as inspirational? Jameson did nothing here. The audience is comprised of corpses. I got nothing out of this clip. Marx, globalism? The geezer is incomprehensible. He left Duke, which is a pro-globalist cesspool, so he must have some reservations, even though he is a Marxist. At any rate, the geezer said nothing here. I think he shat his pants, nothing else.
i feel like jameson is too quick to historicize; remember benjamins plea not to over-historicize; to keep the possibilities of a given moment in history open so that their revolutionary potential and radical traditions may become an intergenerational task.
His point is the postmodern sign represents a radical new era of aesthetic dominance, of the domination of commodity exchange-value, in which the only way of regaining some political and ethical ground is to historicize at all times! Benjamin's project was firmly rooted in Modernity, if we are to historicize him. 'Mechanical reproduction' said little of the saturation we experience today. You have to read Jameson as belonging to a radically different era to that of Lukacs, Adorno, Gramsci, etc

Thanks for posting this. Jameson's thoughts and ideas have been a major inspiration to me so it was wonderful to watch this!
