Diablo I was so much darker and more moody than II. II made huge advances but it most something important too. It didn't feel medieval. It felt more fantastical.

1:06 - 2:00 is probably one of the most badass riffs I've ever heard. The crunch of the guitar and the way the bass drops in so sporadically just gets me every time! Not even mentioning how well they work with the driving beat of the war drums. Somebody should cover or remix this xD

along with the tristram theme, this has got to be my favorite song from the first diablo game. back when i was a kid and wasnt very good at playing the game, i'd watch dad beat it and let me play some levels with his strong characters until i started playing, myself xD this has always been my favorite level!

and i love the music from diablo 2 and all, but i wish it were as creepy as the music from the first diablo game sometimes. ah.

D2 wasn't nearly as scary as D1, I think they wanted more of a mix with the wilderness areas. there were still dark areas like the catacombs in act 1 with mutilated rogue corpses scattered around.

Diablo 1 was my favorite game as a kid, mainly cuz i liked getting creeped out when the monsters would appear out of the dark corners of the rooms. And the music was perfect.

IMO, D2 was too open. I never felt like I was getting trapped or cornered. The Hell part with Diablo was the best part, as it was the closest to D1 it got in terms of atmosphere.

D1 soundtrack pawns the *beep* out of D2 (including expansion) any day. Hell, the same goes for the enemies in D1. The dark setting mood that was created in D1 were lost. Blizz screwed up the formula. More classes and more items are the only good thing about D2. Now D3 will probably just be a WoW-clone.

I dont think so. I think that the formula worked perfect for one game (D1) but they had to move on in order to make the game experience more exciting.

I liked the first game better though. Especially because it was creepy as hell. When it was dark, that game scared the shit out of me.

@Cassow1 I'm more of a Diablo II LOD fan myself, but I agree with you on the soundtrack. Diablo I had one hell of a creepy, awesome soundtrack. Diablo II's music was pretty cool, but it didn't quite have the hellish, fear-inducing feel behind it that Diablo I's soundtrack did.

@TheUnpromisedOne True. Diablo really was evil and creepy. They toned that down a lot in the successor to make it more mainstream-compatible. Personally, I know of two people who considered Diablo a strange game they did not want to get into, but who BOTH really got into Diablo II (Lvl 80 chars, one of them even HC).

@omir1 That's true. Diablo II had some very creepy monsters, imagery, etc., but Diablo as a WHOLE brought the chills. Both are awesome though, and I expect no less from Diablo III, either.

I had a couple friends who liked Diablo as well. My brother-in-law used to be even heavier into Diablo II LOD than I was. If my computer didn't crap out when I had the discs for it, i'd probably still be playing either that or this right now. When Diablo III comes out, I'm playing the shit out of that.
