The commanche could have been one of the meanest helicopters out there. Production was stopped on it in Dec of 2003 supposedly due to having too many bugs.

Usage for recon is also a virtual opportunity, as noise cannot be that suppressed. Right, better use air drones. They are cheaper and no risk for pilots, who are expensive. US, as an empire (Pax Americana:)) does not value people, it evaluates 'em.

Comanche wasnt developed to be an assault helicopter. Recon purpose stealth helicopter capable of flying in all enviroments. Project cancelled at 2004. Max speed around 200mph, sideways and backwards around 70mph.

Stealth helicopters is just a myth to steal some money. Helicopter is low visible on low speed, but it is impossible to make it absolute invisible cause of dopler effect of his rotors.
The Commanche and the F-22 were put on hold. When we get rid of the current fools in both the Whitehouse and congress, replacing them with more realistic people I believe those programs will be revived and more F-22s will join the 135 or so in service. Eventually the Comanche will be put into service as well.

thats questionable. It would be extremely effective, but it'd be used more as like an observation helicopter then a full on attack helicopter. Also it could really only be used effectively against tanks and other helicopters, without unguided rockets and cannons its essentially useless against soft targets. It would however, relay information to attack helicopters and be quite effective

Apaches are extremely out dated models now. the only people who say they are still the best are mostly the ones who just say that because it's american, or it's the only one they've even seen. The comanche WAS the most technological combat helicopter of it's time. only reason why they dismantled the program is because the craft cost too much and the Army pussed out on asking for more money. Apache outdated? Sure the original models are decades old but they're always upgrading them. The apache 64D longbow are still some of the best around, regardless of being a bit old.
While it is sad to see new technology get cancelled, in the long run it may be to our advantage. The AirForce also lost much of its funding too, no more F-22's! UCAV's seem to be the future now, less risk to pilots, more capability, and less cost. It makes sense to put funding in that direction.

Actually, its the speed of new AA missiles that tend to make them miss helicopters. I had one coming straight at our cockpit in Iraq and you could see that it couldn't hold a lock on us.

The 1st generation of Apache from 1985-95 already had a full-digital technology in spite of the fact that the CPU was only equivalent to Intel-80286. At full-battle mode, the windshields are covered with tainted glass relying only to digital environment. 2nd generations were equipped with much better CPU. 3rd generations will be delivered in 2011. All in all, about 2,000 Apaches are in service worldwide as of 2008
I would say the Apache is most advanced but the KA-50 could take out all the Apache just soo much faster and manuverable pluss its no tail mechanics to damage and an ejector seat so pilots can go home and get into more helicopters. For survivability and practicalness and beign badass the KA-50 wins.

They didn't cancel this because of the cost, they cancelled this because they thought it just pointless. All of the RAH-66 Commanche's systems will be integrated into the AH-64 Apache. Instead, the Super Cobra's will be upgraded to "viper" cobra's.

Stealth helicopters is just a myth to steal some money. Helicopter is low visible on low speed, but it is impossible to make it absolute invisible cause of dopler effect of his rotors.

The Commanche and the F-22 were put on hold. When we get rid of the current fools in both the Whitehouse and congress, replacing them with more realistic people I believe those programs will be revived and more F-22s will join the 135 or so in service. Eventually the Comanche will be put into service as well.

are you saying it can fly at cruise speed sideways or backward? if so any helo can do that as well.. the rotor disc just tilts like a big fan and pushes air in the opposite direction the bird wants to fly.. nothing special about how the comanche flys.... it was just more stealthy than previous attack choppers

@RobertsDigital I would respectfully disagree sir, they did not hate the commanche it was just at the time when it was ready to enter production the bush administration put on indefinate hold in favor of the boeing company to build more apaches since aircraft losses in the early stages of the conflict in Iraq were higher than anticipated.

thats questionable. It would be extremely effective, but it'd be used more as like an observation helicopter then a full on attack helicopter. Also it could really only be used effectively against tanks and other helicopters, without unguided rockets and cannons its essentially useless against soft targets. It would however, relay information to attack helicopters and be quite effective

America can say it has strongest military but that may be mostly because of its navy, and even so, poor government desicions have put America heavily in debt, and things will probably get worse before they get better. Other countries WILL go down with the U.S., thoough because the dollar' s value is based on foreign investments, which have been blown on mastercard and visa. (I am American, by the way.)

Apaches are extremely out dated models now. the only people who say they are still the best are mostly the ones who just say that because it's american, or it's the only one they've even seen. The comanche WAS the most technological combat helicopter of it's time. only reason why they dismantled the program is because the craft cost too much and the Army pussed out on asking for more money. The Airforce and Navy ask but never Army =(

While it is sad to see new technology get cancelled, in the long run it may be to our advantage. The AirForce also lost much of its funding too, no more F-22's! UCAV's seem to be the future now, less risk to pilots, more capability, and less cost. It makes sense to put funding in that direction.

The helicopters are very useful deadly when they are members of the battle systems, preferably an-all digital environment which right now only the US has. Actually, its the speed of new AA missiles that tend to make them miss helicopters. I had one coming straight at our cockpit in Iraq and you could see that it couldn't hold a lock on us.

We did not need to do anything. The counter-measures are automatic, but the missile was not able to lock on before that.
I think we turned into the launch once we saw the trail.

Since it entered into service in 1995, only about 40 KA-50/52 has been built. The 1st generation of Apache from 1985-95 already had a full-digital technology in spite of the fact that the CPU was only equivalent to Intel-80286. At full-battle mode, the windshields are covered with tainted glass relying only to digital environment. 2nd generations were equipped with much better CPU. 3rd generations will be delivered in 2011. All in all, about 2,000 Apaches are in service worldwide as of 2008

I would say the Apache is most advanced but the KA-50 could take out all the Apache just soo much faster and manuverable pluss its no tail mechanics to damage and an ejector seat so pilots can go home and get into more helicopters. For survivability and practicalness and beign badass the KA-50 wins.

As per military supremacy, the U.S. would certainly win in a short-term skirmish, where it would come down to whoever could muster the most force, fastest. In the long term, however, Russia is in a far better position (relative to the U.S. economy) to sustain a protracted war (especially given it can provide for its own military fuel requirements).

They didn't cancel this because of the cost, they cancelled this because they thought it just pointless. All of the RAH-66 Commanche's systems will be integrated into the AH-64 Apache. Instead, the Super Cobra's will be upgraded to "viper" cobra's.
