  • That's because people didn't make communities in areas with terrible soil, they lived where the soil was fertile and they only grew what they needed to eat. In suburban South Florida, our soil has a high pH, which is bad for growing veggies. Our only options are containers or raised beds, hence my videos for these choices. If you have great soil, plant in the ground! If needed I will up my composting and do what I have to, or I will get outta dodge and move to fertile ground. Thanks, Nurse Amy

  • Ok I have a dead serious question here. It seems gardeners love all these soil amendments to death, but how did they do it 300 years ago? Cant expect people to garden with things that are shipped in.

  • LOL, growing old gives you two things. Wisdom and Wrinkles...and i don't know which is worse! Knowing NOW what you didn't know when you were younger? Or looking like you know NOW what you didn't know!

My wrinkles thank you very much!

  • Did I said Milf?

  • Thanks for the kind words. We have Doom and Bloom. Net you may want to check out for more information and articles. The podcast is about medical preparedness, gardening, herbal remedies and interview interesting guests. Thanks, Nurse Amy (and Dr.Bones)

  • Thanks TheGrunge619! I hope your corn does well. Make sure you always use NEEM oil mixed with water every couple of days and after a rain for organic pest control. Also use an organic balanced fertilizer every two weeks. We have podcast you may be interested in called Doom and Bloom Hour on Blog Talk radio every Saturday at 9pm eastern time. Thanks, Nurse Amy

  • nurse amy you are an angel.I will try to grow the corn this summer december to March in Australia and let you know how they did.ps you are also very beautiful.

  • @TheGrunge619 It's planting season here in South Florida again so I will be doing more videos soon. I'm also going to do some medical videos! Thanks again, Nurse Amy

  • Hi James,

Also, corn borers are common here in the states, so much so that I suspect that the eggs are actually on the seeds themselves. Neem oil is another organic pest control that may be useful in this situation...

  • Hi all, this is really god stuff. My only word of warning is, if planning to grow in the city, keep an eye out for aphids as they breed with a capital 'B' and the native ladybird population where I live in Spain was too far away to make any difference on their population. Soapy water worked well but make sure they don't get in between the layers of leaves around the corn or you're doooooomed! best of luck :)

  • Many people would have to take care of their own loved ones instead of having them in the hospital or nursing home. They could benefit from learning about basic nursing techniques in bathing, changing, preventing decubiti, maceration and other injuries that could occur due to extended bed rest. Also there are tricks in nutrition to boost healing they could benefit from.

  • Hi DIZCHUK0 !! I think the corn containers should be at least 18 inches deep, deeper if you can find them, but the corn has fairly shallow roots. See my answer below for more details about how many containers to buy. You need to make a mini "field". Let me know if you need more info, always happy to help!! Nurse Amy

  • My backyard has no soil, only concrete so im going to buy a container to buy corn, how deep of a container would i need to grow it about 5 or 6 feet tall?

  • I would recommend using the biggest containers you can get, and the deepest ones too. At least 18inchesx 3 feet and 18 inches deep. You can buy the "roughneck" XL 54 gallon sized blue containers at stores that are big enough, but only put 8 seeds in each one. Get at least 4 containers( 32 plants) but more containers is better so you have a "field" of corn. Be sure and drill lots of 1/4 inch holes in the sides and bottom for drainage.

  • The organize containers are SUCH good ideas for containers. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

  • What size of a container would I need to plant corn in? I am wanting to use a Smart Pot since it is breathable fabric.

  • @virtuouswoman4jesus Hi! Breathable pots are fine! Just make sure you water them alot! you could make a "field" by putting several together. I used two 3x3 sized planters to make my field. Good luck!!

  • @virtuouswoman4jesus Just get the BIGGEST ones available and only plant 4 seeds per 12 inch square. See may comment above on regular container sizes. Thanks for the comment! Nurse Amy

  • i am getting in love with you mama :)
