This is absolutely one of my favorite Dutch novels (not that there's much choice, I'm afraid), although I'm not sure if it was a good idea to film it. Many film versions of books ruined the story. But I'll give it a chance (I haven't seen it yet). Eline Vere for example, was quite an enjoyable film, too. De Ontdekking van de Hemel is so complex an intelligent; I think it's the best novel of Harry Mulish.

Such a shame that the movie is so badly made, I mean, Ada has black hair in the book which is really important? The book however is absolutely amazing, you should really read it.

I watched this as a wrap-up to reading the book. Of course the book is much better, as there is more depth and content. Stephen Fry was Mulisch's only requirement for the book to be filmed. Much of the characters are more active in the movie, as it doesn't have the time to go into them as the level of the book does. Also, many subplots among other things were cut. I wished the movie were around four hours instead of two, as it then could have covered much more and done the book more justice.
