After seeing all the nice comments from younger viewers (Lou Costello died in 1959),on this A&C skit and many others, I'm glad that their comedy lives on. This was a different kind of comedy from what younger people know today, comedy that everybody could watch because it was clean, it didn't insult anyone, and it made sense in a nutty sort of way. Enjoy!
I bought the whole box set of the TV show about 2 years ago.I love it!!! Use to love watching it as a kid,and every now and then I will go back and watch a few discs, and have a great laugh!!!
Their TV show was actually funnier than their movies. By the way, many people don't know that A&C were the #1 box office stars in America for many years.
Only time to pull the toast out of the toaster (breakfast) butter the toast (lunch) eat the toast (supper) class! simply class!! these guys were amazing...the timing, let alone execution of the delivery was all pure genius... this particular scene absolutely blew away!!! Long live and God bless sid fields, bud and lou...
While browsing around Youtube a couple of days ago, I stumbled across "Abbott and Costello 7x13=28" and I started loving them. I'm only 17 and I honestly didn't think I would enjoy these old comedies. I wish I could watch the whole show. ):
@USAJoseph Yeah, you're exactly right. I mean, there is some comedy out now that I enjoy, but nothing ever comes close to these guys, and I can't understand why so many young people can't enjoy it cause it's old. I'm nineteen years old, and been a fan since I was twelve, so if I can like them despite the age, I don't see why other people my age won't even give them a try.
@sirtinycreep Thank you. Last night, my parents and I had a night of classic comedy. First we watched an hour long DVD of Tim Conway skits, then we watched an hour long DVD of Abbott and Costello skits. Lets just say that with both DVDs, it was about a hundred laughs a minute.
It really is. Comedies just aren't as funny as they were in those days. There were a lot of great comedians that were better than any comedian today, but Abbott and Costello were the best of the bunch, in my opinion.
folks i ADORE ABBOTT & COSTELLO. I have their tv shows on dvd and Im waiting for COLGATE COMEDY HOUR to come out. These men were giants. Bud Abbott & I wrote for several years even past his stroke era. a great dear sweet man off screen. Their tv show is UNFORGETTABLE Sid Field, Gordon Jones Joe Besser Joe Kirk what a cast. I welcome feedback.I knew close to 1000 character actors-comics dancers-singers from radio tv &film. Thanks kjixmy0202 & all of you. Abbott&COSTELLO the very best.Tomk

wow! fields timing and execution is right on target, let alone everything he's saying... f------ amazing! Shit! only time to put a little piece of butter on the toast lou says!!!!! where do you see comedy like this nowadays!!! long live these guys!!!
Fields was a master of "talking on the skull" - a burlesque comic's term for talking at length to the other comic's mugging, when what needed was to stretch out a sketch time wise. This happend at an offstage signal when a girl wasn't ready, or scenery was stuck, anything that needed wait time. The art was, not just to kill time - but make it funny, if not in content, in rythm & presentation. Some of the riffs became so popular they were kept in even when not needed. Sid Fields was the best!
This is my favorite scene with Mr. Fields. But they all were great talents. Watch the "Who's on First?" routine for perfect timing. Thanks for posting! 5*
Buy the DVDs, esp. first set. I love it when they leave the apartment, with Mr. Fields complaining about how they haven't paid their rent in 8 weeks, and then they go to the circus, and the circus barker is Mr. Fields playing another character. That always had me on the floor. Best show ever.
i love that line...that's my favorite..i want to make up a t-shirt with a photo of them from this clip...and it would say on the shirt...and zingo you're ready for dinner...all i do is eat...
marie you may be the perfect woman..if you like to cook and clean and are a whore in the bedroom who wont bust my balls when i go out with my friends and u find this clip funny..i will marry you on the spot...
I forgot the genius sound man, and the opening line of the 1st show, "How dare you remind me of somebody I hate." Then the lady hits Lou with her pocket book. Shades of Ruth Buzzy.
This show was possibly one of the best sitcoms of all time. A top notch cast, Lou was wonderful, Abbott the greatest straight man, Sid in a class by himself (I knew him, he wrote some comedy for our lounge act in Vegas)Mike, Besser, Hilary, Bacciagalupe, the 1st guy in the Flugal street routine. I loved all the charactors.
frist get up at about let's say 3 O'clock in the Morning. Next milk 30-40 cow, carry in 15-20 buckets of water from the well, cut down a tree and make 15-25-30 quarts of fire wood.then feed 200 or 300 chickens and 50-60 goats and you slop the hogs and ZINGO your realy for B-frast
I can agree with that! I work with this older guy once in a while. Usually, in the weening of the calves section. Once in a while, we build a temp electric fence. By the way, this is in IA and a lot of flat ground. It's always fun to chase after 'em.
This summer I'll be helping him bale hay. Gotta toss the square bales along with this wagon. Good way to make some extra cash and to get some extra muscle!
I learned later that our football couch got three of us football players this job! No wonder the ranch foreman worked us like dogs! We did have a good team though, finished 6th in state! Guess hauling hay did help! I could do without the snakes bailed up and bumblebees' nest in the barn!
These guys were amazing. I could watch this clip several times a day. Actually puts a little pep in your step to go about your daily life, at work, stuff to do around the house, trips to home depot and back, etc...
The great beauty of this fabulous 2 season A&C filmed tv series, was it incorporated all of their great classic routines developed over so many years, with out the unnecessary side stuff that filled their movies..Sid Fields was so underrated as a performer..his timing was perfect..As funny as the Seinfeld show was, i was always pleased that Jerry continously credited the Abbott & Costello tv show, as being a huge influence on him and co-creator Larry David!
dannylack57 - Sidney Fields was GREAT! I agree with you 100%. This was a very underated show. Their sense of humor was off the wall with characters like Stinkey and Mike the cop, Baccagalup and all the others.
Sidney was the best though and fit like a glove between Abbott and Costello.
Seinfeld & Larry David respected the old vaudeville comedians such as Sid Fields, Abbott& Costello & the rest of the greats. Seinfeld and Curb episodes use many old comedians, Shelly Berman & the late Louis Nye appeared on Curb, as has Jerry Stiller & others regularly on Seinfeld.

I'm loving this because it seems to tap into what is actually funny.
Modern day comics seem to all be about the obscene, jokes on sex, and drugs, and race...
But I love this because, personally, I'd much rather laugh at cows, and baseball games, and math equations then sex, drugs, and racist joke anyday.
