Game designers had a good idea but it was just not executed quite well. Actually, this was a prototype for all next Castlevania games. If some things were better, like that tornado thing and all those crystals, this would have been remembered as best NES game, that's for sure.

If you just take a second to pause it, you can clearly see draculas hair and right ear, and the collar on his cape. Yes he does look like Death, but you just need to look closely to see that he's not.

Actually - the boss battle, if you don't start throwing sacred flames on his ass immediately, is VERY similar to Death's boss battle in the first one, except Dracula has more of a spastic fit - plus like the Death battle, there's scythes flying at you from all over the place. Now... we all know that it is Dracula, but I'd bet that SQ was unfinished, and that this was to be the Death battle initially...

I wish Konami would remake 1,2 and 3 for DS. I´m 32 years old and I still have the original trilogy and my NES console. ohter than the gameboy versions, I´ve beaten almost all Castlevania games, as I´m currently playing Portrait of Ruin, great follow up to Bloodlines. Dawn and Order are also kick ass games! Can´t wait for Lords of Shadows next year!!!

I remember even in '88 I was pretty disappointed with this game. I didn't hate it, but it lost a lot of the original CV flair. But the music still remains phenomenal.

Konami got it right again with CV3: Dracula's Curse.

I never really knew what those 5 bodyparts did... the rib was a shield, obviously. The Eye allowed you to see hidden items... but the other three I never really found out.

Also, a better way to kill Dracula is by just smoking him with those golden daggers. He doesnt even move if you use those :D!

It seems as if sometimes they are trying to show us how Dracula should've looked like in part 2 by Castlevania Judgment. In Judgment, he has an exposed heart and rib cage, two of which were his body parts you had to find in part 2.

These are the ruins of the castle that you destroyed in Castlevania 1, all the monsters are attacking the towns so they havenpt a reason for stay in a crumbled castle... The ruins are empty so Simon goes there for can resurrect without be bothered by a lot of annoting medisa heads... Can you use logic??

Because, before he died he placed a death curse on Simon, so, he had to find the parts that Dracula's minions scattered throughout Castlevainia and resurrect Dracula and slay him again.

Well somehow the curse was cast when Dracula was defeated in Castlevania 1, Simon then had to gather Dracula's remains and defeat him another time. The game had three endings, best is when Simon defeats Dracula and doesn't die, the bad ending is that Simon dies some time after the battle with Dracula, the worst ending is that Simon dies right after defeating Dracula.

Yes actually there are three endings the good one, the middle one and the bad one. in order to get good one beat dracula with dracula heart relic (Like in the video at the minute 1:06), to get middle one you gotta have the heart and let dracula beats until u reach danger level (like 5 or 6 life bars)and i have no idea how to get the bad one.

No, it just depends on how fast you finish the game. Thats why theres a timer. Fast finish- good ending draculas hand rises- slow finish bad ending simon dies- somewhere in the middle is the medium ending I dont know the times though.

hmmm the black and white ending the worst? It says that everyone is happy and remembering simon as an hero, how can it be a bad ending? That shows the crapness of this game, even if someone like this. I'd rather say that this game is the black sheep on the series, like super mario bros 2 or zelda 2: the adventure of link. It is just different, not worse nor better. And so are most of the games, and that's why someones would like games normally hated.
