I literrally cried when I watched this video. He is one of my heroes and one of the reasons (exept my grandfasther-ww2, korea, vietnam) that I am deeply interested in history.
Wow great peice! Major Winters had a huge impact on me. Im glad I found out about him while I'm still young. I've read all his books including Ambrose's "Band of Brothers" He is my role model and has changed the way I look at life. Being a wild guitarist it baffles people around me that I dont drink, ,smoke,& remain humble & down to earth. It's all because of Major Winters. Character,Competence, and lead from the front is Major Winters motto in a nut shell. And that's what I always say to myself.
Have you read his book "Beyond Band Of Brothers"? Written by Major Winters.Goes a bit more in depth. Have about 20 pages left...read it in a week....couldnt put it down.
@xixGeTSuMxix Yes I have. It's a great book isn't it. I've read everything about Richard WInters. All the band of brothers stuff and beyond. I will surely pass on the lessons to my son.
When I heard about his death, I called a friend of mine and we hooked up to drink in his honor. And discussed the mans life. What more could we do. Now that i think of it i think thats all you can do, tell their stories, remember and honor them, and these hero's will not be forgotten.
Major Winters. Sir, I salute you. My father-in-law "Paw" Clyde Arthur Estepp is 93 years old lives in Gate City, VA. served in Gen.Patton's 3rd Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. We celebrated Christmas 2011 yesterday. Paw very rarely talks of the war. I read his unit's battle credits once and it read like a novel. Like Major Winters, Paw returned home, raised a family, farmed the land, and never really forgot the war, haunted by those left behind.
I feel soo sad about this :( what makes this even more sad to me is that Major Winters died the same day my grandpa died in the same year and Major Winters was 92 when he died and my grandpa was 92 when he died the same day :( I miss my grandpa and Major Winters :( R.I.P. Brave Soldiers :')
Yes I have followed his story and interviews and will honor him trough out my lifetime. I am so impressed. The privileges we have didn't come free, they were won in blood and mud by the older generation. I have tried to pick up as much understanding as I can from how these guys work, their character and features to use it in our time. Thank you for posting and keeping them alive
My father is a WW2 veteran, 2 Purple Hearts and several other commendations. He's 88 and I should treasure every moment we have left to share. These men were truly part of the GREATEST GENERATION! Thanks for putting this up brother!
