I think this is the Northampton demo -"Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To". The album version is slower and more polished (mostly organ and bass), but I still like this one the best.

Sorry tomdickhead, Spacemen 3 were a good band, but they sure as hell don't come off favourably in a comparison with the Velvets. As imitators, though, they're better than most.

I absolutely agree. Nothing in rock'n'roll touches The Velvet Underground & Nico. Pete and J. did write some great songs though. They used the same template as the Stooges and the Velvets but they took it to another place.

Theres a bootleg version of the Velvets playing 'Heroin' w/Cale on vocals & organ that sounds rather like the slower 'PP' version of "Walkin..." methinks it's from a gig the VU did when Lou was in the hospital (guess why?) where they also came up w/the changes for Sister Ray. I'd kill to hear that again...
