She is not a girl but the buddha. This is a fantastic clip about monkey and his friends on their journey to beijing,to perform in the olympics, but also a hommage to MONKEY the brilliant oriental saga about the boy priest Tripitaka and his adventures to India to find the sacred scroles.Irrepressive.
You can download the vids you like on YouTube without any hassle using a free bit of software which has been around for ever from 'realplayer' - do a search on google for it - and don't bother with the premium version, the free one will work fine for most users ;)
probly says some crazy thing like "we are better than the world and will be much better than Londen" and the chinese are laughing at us cause we cant tell lol
Ive been really impressed with this years olympics, its been really well done so far and i cant wait until the closing ceremony. it'll take a lot for us to better this in 2012.
Even though I do not know what the words mean, I just love it! It'd be awesome if someone knew the song name... I'd be grateful! And the monkey's grin is so cute! Love the pig (my Chinese Zodiac)
chadman93, no the Chinese government spent 20 million on improving China for its people. Call it communism or whatever you like, but when was the last time you read about a any capitalist company improving a service for the benefit of its customers - UK rail service is shite as is bus service, airport service, council service, bin service, etc...
Capitalism is failing its people big time, the only winners are those fat idle pigs called politicians who are bleeding us all dry!
Well... SOME chinese are rich. The majority of people live in poverty whilst their opressive leaders manipulate them to think like the government does, and not dare to speak out in fear of great punishment. Basically, China's like a bloody ant's nest.
Sure. Are you stupid? Have you ever been there? Well I have, and it's utterly amazing, everyone's so proud, happy and thrilled. And if we were such depressed people living in poverty we wouldn't think that. All the energy and effort that's gone into making this event truely special is something people ought to look in awe of. Not criticize.
Besides, I'm chinese too, we certainly do not live in poverty, and we are nothing but thrilled and proud of our nation.
sazzy925, yes I agree with you, it does have quite a ring to it, I'm surprised this track hasn't been released for sale on the download sites what with all the attention the Beijing Olympics are currently getting, am sure it would be a massive hit.
As for the opening ceremony, it was outstanding in every way!
This is kinda putting down my own country, but when we host the olympics in 2012 its not going to be anywhere near as impressive as Beijing! It's going to be hard for England to do anything like China because we dont have culture - just history.
Music was composed and produced by Gorillaz Damon Albarn. Lead vocals were performed by Jia Ruhan accompanied by the Tianyuan Choir of Beijing. Musical was directed by David Coulter and Mike Smith.
Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett made a modern version of the chinese folk tale that involved both animation and stage performance.
Damon and Jamie were also approached to do the advetisement for the Olympic Games in Beijing and used the animations Jamie Hewlett had created for the opera
Son Goku and in fact the whole of the original Dragonball story was based on the myth 'Journey To The West' as mentioned by Tobius here. Isn't the advert super?
The Advert is based on the theatre piece 'Monkey: Journey to the west' by Damon Albam and Jamie Hewlett, the characters are based on 70s Show 'Monkey Magic' and both 'Monkey Magic' and Monkey: Journey to the west' are both based one of the main stories in chinese literature (Also Jet li's new film 'Forbidden Kingdom' is based on it), in english the title of the story is translated to 'Journey to the west'.. There is a few articles on BBC Website about 'Monkey Magic' influencing this advert.
Elrikkardo, according to a reply made on here earlier by dumturks (1 day ago) and I quote "it's the animator from gorillaz and damon albarn produced the music. they have a theatre piece being released in the near future".
I think perhaps he knows a little more about this video than I do.
The theatre piece was first publicly show back in june-july 2007 in Manchester. It's been played in a few different countries since but one off shows. It played again in London last month and apparently since this advert will be playing for a longer period of time soon. The piece is based on the ancient chinese belief of the monkey god.
Didn't you ever watch Monkey as a child? It's based on chinese folkelore of the journey to the west in which Monkey, Pigsy and Sandy accompany a buddhist monk to India. They are all regarded as Gods, the woman in white is Guan-Yin.
wow, i thought people wud just laugh at it cuz its like a proper typical chinese thing, animals flying about n dont call me racist cuz im chinese myself
dom19876, yes the animation does look remarkably similar to Gorrilaz, it will be interesting to know who the designer is - whoever he or she is very talented.
