Hi Siman, I am malik I have been ripped off by plasterer's too many time's and am know fed up and want to do the job my self, your video has been very helpful its just thatit just speeds up and i wish to know this job in more detail, i am a bricky i have a city and guild in it its just that i never attempted plastering before and its a very large project i am doing it is my own house its 10 bedrooms and i am not going to let another plasterer rip me off again i am not looking to make a living
Hi Tommy, I'm considering doing skim coating over a popcorn texture on my walls & ceiling. I researched removing the texture but it would be more time consuming & would cost more overall to finish the job. Would you recommend skim coating for this type of project, and would you have any tips that might help? PS. Great tutorial btw. Yours are the most educational vids i've come across on the web. Thanks, Angie
@angiesiege Assuming you're talking about Artex? then yes you can skim over it. Use a bonding agent over the old Artex and allow to dry fully before plastering. A bonding coat is recommended before skimming with multifinish. This will make the job a lot easier. Alternatively, you can board over the Artex with plasterboard and then treat it just like a new ceiling.
been a plasterer for 10 years, this vid is really good for the diy types on plasterboard, guy doesnt mess about shows the tech but unfortunatly putting what seems easy is a bit harder, no saying its rocket science but spreading even is the key and it takes practice and if your doing a diy job one go is what you get, didn't show how to lay the wall in aswell. a massive factor to how to get an even wall before polishing, new plasterboard plus diy = taping and filling. sorry but only way
you are not a plasterer one coat work hahaha in this time j can do 25 square meters. And where is proper mixer ? from 8 to 15.30 j can do 40-50 square meters depending on the walls
Thanks for the great video! What kind of plaster did you use/can you use for this project? One time I tried this it set far too quickly, before I had time to go over it enough.
This video is showing DRYWALL BD. The plaster or what ever you are using could fall off in months to come if you didn't paint a bonding agent on the bd first, such as weld creek. But this looks brown (never seen this before). In my part of the country, the wall would have been painted with a bonding agent, taped, and WHITE plaster would have been used for a beautiful finish, and then it would have been SLICK coated, or sand finished.
its laughable coming across these 5 day courses guys thinking there plasterers,i have sorted some right nightmares, when they are charging so cheap there is a reason. they are not PLASTERERS.
@GypsyKing7 Really it's down to personal preference (whatever suits you best), but a lot of people start at the top as any plaster that falls down the wall will not cover anything you have already done. No set rule though.
I have now finished plastering and is better than any other room in the house. I dont think i will be paying for a plasterer ever again :)! Many thanks for your video

@andytheplasterer11 The chap said at the end of the video that he was just about to flatten what he had on to make the second coat easier.

The board finish is smoother and will stay a live for that much longer, giving you more time to put on a larger amount of plaster.
Thanks for your comment if theres anything else please let me know.
