this was a man who didnt want money and would commit bloody murder if there was a lockout cuz he wanted to do nothing but play basketball cuz everyday he wanted to prove how good he was so every game he was playing for something all those 110% every time all his heart everything he had kobe, lebron, wade, all those ego assholes none of u will ever have the heart of bird
Bird didnt have the athletic ability of Jordan or the skills of Magic but he had the heart of a champion and i laugh when people say he couldnt play in todays nba, larry bird could play with anybody in todays game
Pause it at 2:21 and you'll see his jagged finger. He completely broke it just before his rookie year and the dang thing was dangling. He said it never felt right again. Imagine how much better he'd have been if he came into the league with his shooting finger not f'd up. It's freaking scary.
majic johnson is the best all around player to ever play the game and he hated playing against bird cuz he knew larry was gunna give him everything he had.. and what does that tell u about larry
May not be the greatest but for damn sure one of them. I would pick him on my team any day. Brid. Magic, Jordan, Ewing, Isiah Thomas would run circles around these cats today......
Toughest white baller ever, a competitor, no athletic talent, no strength/body, but a winner, first 3 NBA 3-Pt Shooting Comps were won by this man, nuff said, didn't even need to take his sweater off
@1PedroAmor Actually your correct Bird was "Athletic" compared to the other greatest of all time...but he was strong-Barkeley said Bird was the reason he had to wrench down on rebounded balls b/c Bird would take the ball away during sir charles rookie season. He was agile/balanced...28" vert which the average vert today exactly...and a b-ball I.Q. and clutchness even better than MJ himself. I'd take bird over EVERYONE except MJ and Wilt.
think about a draft all time, maybe u take wilt or mj first, but why? half their careers were spent losing and wasting teammates time.
only guys like russell magic and bird came out of the gates champions like that. that's who I'D want on my time, and to add more - Bird never argued with his coaches, he always worked hard, he played as hard as he could and then some, and he was more of the classier players in the league minus all that bravado...
One thing is for sure, Larry has made all Boston dream... and me from Naples Italy in my teen age. It was great to see Larry Bird, Magic Johnson , Kareem Abdul Jabbar and many others play.... those were games of superstars and real men, not comparable to the stuff they play nowadays...
At 3:12 we can see Charles Barkley in his prime, while guarding Larry: old school defense, though and intense but he could still box Charles out and shoot. Priceless. Both of them. Much respect for those players like Larry, Michael, Magic, Sir. Charles and every single one I forgot to mention (too many) who played in the 80's and 90's. That was the NBA at its best. Sorry for my english, I am italian.
I use to hate Bird and the C's as a Pistons fan back before I began to respect his game. I agree with Parrish, he was unstoppable. I miss those days compared to the NBA of today. Magic, Bird, Jordon, Zeke, Barkley, Hakeem, Malone & Stockton etc....they all had passion.
@Cardigans5 So do I. As a Celtics fan, I miss both Reggie Lewis & Len Bias as well. Bias would have been a major contribution to the Celtics had he still been alive. Reggie Lewis was a hardworker and had a great work ethic. No doubt about it. It's really unfortunate what happened to both him and Len Bias.
@Cardigans5 As for the Bostion Celtics dynasty, I hope Danny Ainge, Doc Rivers, the big 4 (Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, & Kevin Garnett), and many, many more Celtics players (The O'Neals, Big Baby Davis, Nate, and etc..) keep the Celtics tradition alive. The Celtics will win NBA championship #18 someday.
Discovered something very cool.....if you start REO Speedwagon's "Time For Me To Fly" right at the :45 mark, where Larry is running up the tunnel....the song goes right along with the video. Just like "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wizard of Oz"? Bird? "Fly"? Get it? I have a lot of free time on my hands...
It kinda gets me teary-eyed when he comes out of the locker room and everyone in the old Boston Garden is cheering out his name. Though he was slow and unathletic lookin', he was smart and got the job done. That game 5 was underrated. Reggie Lewis had a pretty good game and they got good production from a guy named Derek Smith. I still like it when Bird stuffed Chuck Person in the battle of who talks the most trash. Great song and great player.
I get choked up too.Kinda crazy an NBA player and a good tune can do that to ya.I wish it was the same NBA as back then, with role models and great passionate players. We miss you Larry
