This video seems to be implying that Odie is a female. It really brings into focus the comic's theme of sexual frustration, both from Jon and particularly our star fat cat. Garfield attempts to follow society's dictates by courting Arlene, but his passion for Odie is undimmed, resulting in outward displays of frustration and anger, ironically directed at the very object of his desire. This is a clear allegory for race relations in the United States. Jim Davis, you are a genius.

I think that you may be reading into it too much. The point of these videos (from what I infer) is to reveal what a sham Jim Davis is. After all, look at how simple and overall stupid these comics are.

Not to mention, they are completely unsatisfying as reading material, or even visual entertainment. When a person reads a comic strip, they expect something short, funny and having slight meaning. Not all that race relations or sexual tension as you suggest.

Absolutely! Jim Davis is like a god among men! I find it to be absolutely awe-inspiring how the looks of the characters are so consistent! Any time Jon's leaning over, it looks the same every time! Any time Garfield's leaning on the counter, it looks the same every time! In fact, there will be comics where the only difference between the panels is the eyes and mouth! If I didn't know that Jim Davis is a master craftsman, I'd almost think he was tracing his own work!

I think this makes his comics utterly boring. When I was really young I liked Garfield, but every panel of every comic is set at the exact same setting, exact same angle, exact same character pose. Not to mention more often than not the joke and punchlines are lame - especially in the more modern Garfields. I appreciate Fatal Farm for breathing new life in this stale comic. I think Berkley Breathed and Bill Waterson, while less famous, are more the creative comic master craftsmen.
