@3dDuke The engine in a Charger far surpasses the Mustang engines torque and power, the weight difference isn't enough to counter this. Which also brings up the point that the heavier Charger is so easily tapped of the road by a little Mustang, but I like this film so we won't get in to that.

@3dDuke I just read in to it and the Mustang was tuned up to make it faster,yet the Charger was still quicker, to slow the Charger down they fitted slimmer tyres which gripped less slowing the car down. This also helped make the Charger's handling look more dramatic at the slower speed. It's all obvious to see in the video, the guy power sliding the big Charger on those skinny tyres must have had some skill!

I'm not sure about the Mustang, but I know for a fact that the 68 Black Dodge Charger was literally driven off the show room floor, just as you see it in the film, and driven without any modifications. It always pains me to see any classic car ruined in a film. Even if it was a fantastic movie.
