Ok, I just watched part 2.

Right from the get-go I would like to change my suggestion for the next trip itinerary. Here it is.

#1) Buy a portable generator, 100 6v lantern lights, and 100 rechargeable 6v lantern batteries. At each corner spray paint the direction that you just came from, while also placing one of the lantern lightsin the direction that you want to go so that you can see each direction at every corner you come too later.

This is just me but I'd also want some rope, a hard hat, O2/gas sensors, a particulate mask or respirator, goggles, a whistle, food and water for several days, and a weapon--since there are stories of serial killers prowling around under here (and it certainly would be a good lair for serial killers) and people doing occult/satanic rituals.

Itinerary for the next exploration.

#2) Explore the caverns knowing that you have enough light for 36 hours straight. Each time you get to a new corner mark the direction you just came from (so that you know which way to get out). Just some laterns/spotlights with spares and a good amount of new batteries in a backpack would be enough. You can also bring tactical LED flashlights, lighters and matches, and LED headlamps. Radios, an emergency beacon locator would be good to have too if you get lost, and/or a smartphone with someone who can GPS track it and tell authorities if you get lost.

This clip is seriously exaggerated. The catacombs aren't 300 feet below street level - they're only around 100, at most. Also, the 'lower levels' they talk about are all inaccessible - they're filled with water. To walk from the northern most to southern most area takes two hours, at most. Not six.

Yeah, he was probably venturing and being so curious as to what was around the next corner that he forgot the way back, 400 miles of tunnels is asking to be hopelessly lost. He eventually freaked out because he knew he was lost and his reaction was to run to try and find the way out quicker. My guess is he ran around until his light source ran out and then died in the massive maze of tunnels.
