  • i totally agree, Hp sucks, i got 3 HPs and they all failed one way or another none of my hp's are working now, im using my sister's 8 years old dell laptop right now and works as good as new, fuck hp's, my next laptop is going to be either toshiba, sony or vestel.

  • And if still same problem,, Change hard drive

  • Is hard drive,, Or most likely a windows7 problem,, reinstall w7,, If u don't have the disk press f11 or f10 to recover w7 to factory

  • man i have same laptop ..and i didn't face any problem ....it might be a windows problem ... you should reinstall your W7 ... it might work ....

  • Same model, same problem, get a new hard disk or try getting a new mother board!!!!

  • Your hard disk have bad sectors.

The Same happened with me, just buy a new hard disk.

  • @Brunks89 Luckily, i did not have to waste any money, just changed the windows installer disc.

  • theonlymac has a hp lol come onn am i the only person tht finds tht funny lol

  • @bslgeorge what, 105 degrees C? That should definitely not be happening! I always keep an eye on my laptop's temperature but even if you put it on a duvet, which you strictly shouldn't, it should never go above 75 deg C ish.

  • your problem is that its an hp

  • @kaaoszx there's nothing wrong with HP's. I find them rather attractive and other than this issue with the windows installer disc, i've never had a problem with it!

  • @Theonlymac001 hp sucks ass

  • @kaaoszx umm hp makes reliable computers?

  • and yes i checked ont he website on what powersetting i should set my adapter ona nd yes my laptop runs on 90W and the Universal Replacement adapter has same polarity, wattage, volt, and now the same power setting.

  • @Spartan117JMC Haha ookkey.. No i havent broken the original power supply, still using that and it has no settings and i'll repeat myself again, i got a new copy of the windows7 disc and things have been fine since!

  • um WOW... dude i tried to set the Adapter to 18.5 .. cus.. well my Battery Shorted out... and the Laptop dident even react at all not even a click when i pressed the on button, "When plugged in!!" then i removed the battery and whaddayaknow.. it started.. in FACT... "ATI Radeon" the screencard has stopped crashing.. the laptop itself is running smoother the fan has quietened a bit.. and it just looks as if the laptop has awaken from some kinda sleep...

  • i ound a BIG problem that i solved fairly easily... this migth sound crazy but.. the last 1/2 year ive had my Adapter on too high voltage.. and that has nearly fried my circuits... so i turned it down from 20.5 ot 18.5 and now my laptop suddenly woke up like from a deep sleep or sumethin o.O its like superfast now... Recommend checking ur adapter if ur's is an universal one... the Hp.Dv5000 Laptop series that i have use 90W at 120 -240V at 18.5 Setting... Make sure yours is okey too...

  • i have a question though.. my power jack broke down and i bought a new universal one... and after that my Screen card has ben acting up.. could it be that it doesent get enough power? i have my new powerjack set at "19" of 8 - 20 should i set it higher perhaps? anyone know? (IF this is unfitting as subject then i am sorry and then just mark this as spam)

  • @Spartan117JMC I doubt your screen problem is linked to the power adapter as the power distribution is controlled by another chip and if you've got the battery in then basically you'll always have enough power. I think you may have been opening and shutting it too much and the flex cable is worn out. quite expensive to replace unfortunately :(

  • ill admit.... i have swapped harddisk "3"! times... but then my laptop is one and a half year old, and i use it every day... the computer is placed on to wood bars (actually support for my sable plate :P) and that actually keeps it fairly cool and it has NEVER EVER overheated..

  • @Spartan117JMC I removed mine too as there is no other way of formatting the C drive other than using a HDD reader and another computer.

The temperature of mine did go up to 74°C a few times but thats not overheating is it?

  • I have the same issue with hp dv5t, about 2 years old with vista on it. I ran a test on hdd that shows a few errors, I will try replacing the hdd soon and see if it fixes the problem. Hope its not the GPU.

  • Hp is notorious for faulty Hard-Disk's

  • @Spartan117JMC that's nice to know i might want to make a backup of my data then...

  • Either your hard drive is damaged, you have a damaged windows install disk, Your screencard may be faulty damagd.

  • @Spartan117JMC I think the windows install disk was damaged. I took it back to the shop where i bought it, they replaced it and i've had no issues since then, the computer's working like a dream *knock on wood*

  • reload os again

  • go to safe mode press f8

  • Do you have 9600MGT or 9200M-GS? If you have 9600MGT,then its GPU problem,im sorry but take it to warranty if you still have it.

It wont login cause, windows cant regonize GPU at all,it means that GPU is faulty :(

    and that causes the problem.

  • @Thewestofestonia I have the 9200m-gs. And after re-installing a different copy of windows7 the problem seems to have been sorted (for now). I think the issue may have been that i've installed a beta version of windows dreamscene every time, and that crashes explorer.exe right at startup..

  • Mike, the problem is that Windows simply cannot be made to run reliably. It is not a hardware issue.

  • or it could be the black screen of death, u need a professional to look at that.

  • i also have 1, THIS IS THE WORST PIECE OF SHT I EVER HAD, OLDER PCs I HAD WORKED FAR SO MUCH BETTER, HP CONNERS!!!

  • Seriously, this has got to be a joke! I was booting up my laptop this morning, and guess what, it doesn't log on?! Seriously.. Wtf? It's been two weeks and a day since i re-installed windows..

  • About a week ago my laptop completely froze while i was editing a document.. Wasnt responding to anything.. Then i tried to start it up, tried all the ways that worked before, but it just would not start up in normal mode.

So i had to reinstall seven, and since then it's been fine *knock on wood*. I disabled automatic updates, cos i think one of the updates screwed it up. Thanks microsoft, i think i'll choose what i want to install from now on!

  • what os did you have when u bought it....

  • @TobbyDaDog vista x86 home edition

  • Reinstall Windows 7 It will work

  • @TheGamingkevin I did that in september, and the it worked fine.. for two weeks.. and here we are again :( maybe if i have some free time i will try that again

  • @saphira1107 meby its the hard drive

  • maybe to try a resore point ..

  • @anel115 The only way i can turn it on at the moment is if i do a system restore in safe mode, then straight after that it usually boots up in normal mode :)

  • I have one HP DV5 1213em and have used it without any prob for nearly 10 months until recently the screen went blank while gaming, After i have uninstalled the game, same thing, called the tech people and they told to perform system recovery. again same thing,. i upgraded to windows 7 today, same disappointemnt after some hours. Suddenly no sound, blank screen, then off!!! I am not a professional but a regular user....anyone got any idea wat the prob might be, thanks.

  • thats a hardware problem by the sounds of it! If the screen goes blank it could be the flexfoil (connecting the screen to the computer) but if sound too, it might be the motherboard. have you tried using an external monitor&speakers?

  • I have an annoying problem with my HP DV5-1235dx. Whenever I adjust the volume using the lit up buttons above the keyboard, a window comes up that shows the volume level. This often lags quite a bit, especially during gaming. Is there any way to make the volume still adjust normally when using the buttons, but without the window coming up?

  • yeah, uninstall the driver which shows the volume. i think its the driver of the touch-keys. if you uninstall it the keys will still work fine but the notification windows will disappear :)

btw lol i wish my biggest problem was the volume window lagging :D

  • Okay, thanks. I'm no computer wiz, but I would recommend that you somehow back up all of your documents onto another computer and then reinstall the operating system. That seems to be what most people have already said, though.

  • I have the opposite on my ,

hp dv7 the volume adjust normally but the window doesn´t come :p

  • i also had the same problem but it was fixed by itself. dont know abt the prob.

  • I have a HP dv5 1153ei.... try reinstalling your operating system?

  • thats what i've been trying to avoid :(

but it has to be one of my drivers because the last time i reinstalled the os (because of the same problem) the computer only worked for about three weeks.. so.. i'm not sure. i might try "startup repair" if i find out how to launch it

  • I installed an upgraded version of windows 7 on my laptop i used it for 3 months, but then i decided to install back the windows vista that was pre-installed. About the hard drive, go on the hard drive's manufacturer website and download the diagnosis utility, try to perform a hard drive test. also google "memtest86+" to do a memory test. try to scan disk or defragmentation also.

  • tnx:P

  • do u know now the problem?

  • i have done some research and some experimenting on other computers and i think something that i have installed is causing this. it might be a program/game driver or plugin.. i'm not sure. think i'm just going to have to try uninstalling things one by one.

  • hy. i have exactly the same problem only i have vista... hp dv5 1020en. but i have two logins ors:D one is guest and second is mine. mine isnt working but guest is working:D

  • just call hp you got it with your computer i have called hp once for my computer

  • Try to press the Escape at start when the HP logo appears, there are some memory and hdd diagnostics, start both of them just to be sure. Otherwise make a clean windows reinstall with hdd format if you didnt try it yet.

  • dude had the same exact problem with my computer, and i had the same computer as you

im guessing you have a virus, or one of your dll files is missin/deleted

i suggest you send it to a person to fix it for you, its no hard ware problem, i got mine fixed for 40, but you can probably find a guy on craigslist for cheaper.

If the computer technician fixes it, he might have to set it back to factory default but ask if you can get a file with backed up info. pm me if u have any ?'s!!

  • I just updated my VGA driver cos someone suggested that might help, but no change.. i've asked a couple of colleagues who know some IT but they had no idea either.. I dont know anyone who would have the knowlege to fix it.. I dont mind paying if it'll work after that :D but i hope there is a way to avoid having to re-install all my apps AGAIN for the 4th time this month..

  • I'm not sure of any good laptop hard drives. Maybe it would be a good idea to contact hp. Manufacturers warranty is usually 1 year so they could fix it

  • I've contacted HP and they said this model is more than 1yrs old, so the warranty is only valid if i still have the receipt with the date of purchase. Which i dont think i do.. And besides they would only take the laptop away for a month or so, and then give it back with some other problems.. I think i'm going to have to try to solve this on my own..

  • @Theonlymac001 sorry

  • Since it is a laptop drive they are usually much quieter so the click might not be heard on yours.

The other possibility is a bad driver. Since the computer can start in safe mode just fine. So maybe try checking windows update and see if there are any driver related updates.

  • Just took the hdd cover off, and put the laptop to my ear, i can't hear a regular clicking, just the odd click from accessing information. But i've just noticed the access light is still flashing every second exactly.

Is it normal, if the hard drive is listed beside the clock on the taskbar in the "safely remove hardware" list next to my memorystick?

  • An internal hard drive should never be listed in safely remove hardware

  • Well, mine is.. Even after several restarts it's there. My drive is a toshiba MK2552GSX. I haven't read anything bad about it online, just had a quick search. But the fact, that the latest driver is was released in 2006 november kindof disturbs me a little..

It could just be, that the drive is not fully compatible with windows7.. But then why does it sometimes work for days without problems? I guess i'll never know, i'll just have to buy a new hdd :( You know of any reliable 2.5" hdd-s?

  • I have a hunch that it is either a driver issue or hard disk issue because my computer's HDD failed while I was using the computer and the screen went black like that with just a mouse and started blinking every second only mine was making a clicking sound every time the light came on.

  • Does it happen in safe mode?

    How old is the laptop?

  • Hi. No, i was able to start up the laptop in safe mode without any troubles. After i made the video, i attempted a system restore, to the previous day, and after that the laptop worked fine for about four days. Then this started happening again.. At the moment i'm in "safe mode with network connection" writing to you. The laptop is about three months old.
