I'm the same as you.....this song makes me weak in the knees......It's all time favorite song........EVER!! I can't think of any song that is any better than this one....I'm originally from Latrobe PA and we dance like they did on American Bandstand....and this song was the best song to dance to....It was a little before my time....I graduated from Derry High in 1963, but The Rink always played it over and over every Friday and Saturday night...
Up late again with this fabulous music, it is such a gift to be able to have these songs take you back in time and just remember all the people and timesof your high school days.
One of the great female highnote wordless vocals of all time. I think i've seen her with other groups specializing in these fabulous highnote wordless vocals, i just love them.
38 something from Hartford CT who never grew up on Doo Wop but WOW!!! Jimmy and the group really bring it on this treasure of a tune!!!!! Really nice to see and hear......Best wishes to the continued success of Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners
I have played this some so many times that I have lost count. The lead singers voice is beautiful. What a handsome man (especially in his hay days). They don't make music like this any more. The rubbish that we have to endure sung by female singers who 'don't want to wear clothes' and male singers who always have their trousers falling down is just NOT ENTERTAINING!!!
An indie film about Janet's life, "Since I Don't Have You," is being filmed in Pittsburgh presently; there's a Facebook page about it. I'm honored to play Joe Rock, their manager.
Oohh the good ol days. I remember hearing this some when I was 5 years old in 79, but cause my mom and dad use to dance to this song all the time. My dad was a Marine during this generation and he met my mom at a dance on base. This was their first song they danced to. Maybe thats why they always put the record on. Hell, their in their late 60's and still have the original album too, lol. Thanks for all the memories of my parents on this video!! lol
Never forget that this song was playing on the AM radio in a car that was taking me to NYC to a hospital where my brother's fiancee had just died from leukemia at the ripe old age of 19. I remember thinking, "How could he hear a song like this after the loss he just suffered?" Wow, the lyrics in those old songs MEANT something!
I like way he plays it straight by singing it just the way he used to - no compromising, even though those high notes must have been hard for him to hit. He has a lot of integrity.
@lovetoplaydrums2day - Yeah but 50¢ in 1960 was $7.50 in today's money based on salaries back then. Average was between 3 to 4 thousand of those dollars a year. But those were the days for other reasons I suppose. The GI Bill meant people were educated and could get good jobs and build a nation. People had savings and leisure time. People had running water, electricity, good food... and FREE TIME! I wasn't around yet... by the time I got here... we were headed back down.
I enjoy the music, since most of it was recorded when I was born or soon after. These "Artists" exemplified class then, and if you look up many of the doo wop groups today, they are still exemplifying class.Yeah, some smoked a joint, but you never saw them involved in the problems todays groups are.I'll always be a child of the 50's and early 60's music! "56"
This was way before I was born but I really appreciate the beauty of this song. Even the revival by Guns and Roses was good, but nothing beats the Skyliners' version. Bravo!
This 45 was in our Seeburg jukebox. I know it was released in '58, In '59 I was three and old enough to work the Seeburg. My father was a restaurateur and because of needed space and an upgraded sound system he put it out to pasteur in our living room and became my best friend. All the 45's were there filed between skinny gold colored bar dividers that would breech into a mechanism deep in the works that I could never quite see. These were the best times and what glorious music!
People discuss about which version is better. I can say that both are real good and cannot be compared with each other because they are different genres.

@fiddlerpin great comment!!!! Jimmy is the 50's and I'm from the 70's.............great music, timeless music is just that.....talent is.......Jimmy obviously is older in this clip but reached down deep for a spectacular performance, as they all did.
I 'll give them credit for putting on a show for the people..but Mr. Beaumont isn't giving the original much justice here..what happened to his volume.?!!
@3whisperedwords I'm so glad SO MANY REMEMBER "JANET". That ending actually MADE THE SONG AND THE GROUP. I still have a picture that they all signed at the CIO HALL in Midland,Pa from the 60's,,,Janet "kissed" the picture and the lipstick is still there. CLARK RACE & a DJ from WHEELING called THEMOJOMAN were the MC's. HEY THAT'S ME.
Sir, this is from the 1st Doo Wop reunion concert on PBS, 1999, from The Benedum Center, Pittsburgh PA; & oh they were fantastic, & Donna is a total Babe!! Wolfsky9
Jimmy is such a great guy. We were at my nieces wedding a few years in Penn Hills and afterwards went to the night club to listen to a band. My niece asked if I wanted another drink and I told her, yes, and to get Jimmy Beaumont there a drink too. It WAS him and he came over and joined our party. What a super guy! I saw the Skyliners 40 years ago at the Ladest Club in New Kensington.
This is from 1999, the 1st Doo Wop Revival show from The Benedum Center, Pittsburgh PA. Yes, Jimmy struggles with the notes, but Donna & The guys do great back up with him, & a classic lives once again. Donna is such a total Babe! Wolfsky9
I corresponded with Nick, the bass singer (left) to get Jimmy Beaumont's autograph. A real nice guy, and they are ALL great singers. Jimmy wouldn't surround himself with anything but the best, for a new Skyliners, he has em.
This song streaked right accross language and cultural barriers. I loved it as a young man with little understanding of English, during my days as an aspiring artist and right up to my present day. A great song that Jimmy sang and made it what it is still today, after so many years
ndhudecz , back in the day blacks and whites could sing their asses off, colour wasn't an issue with music. Oh for the good old days. And Janet Vogel was the cutest and the best, RIP Janet, we'll never forget you sweetheart.

I love the song (one of my few all time favorite songs), and I love the singing - how's about that Donna Groom lady - Wow! And I even love the beautiful violinist you get to see for a couple seconds at about 1/4 the way through.
I hope none of you feel alone about letting a tear loose on this one - I do so many of the times I hear it anymore. Peace. Al, the nvp
I was in love with the vocalist back in the day and still love him to day. And he's looking mighty fine here in this video. And sounding as great as ever. They all sound wonderful...."Mercy"....
Thank you for sharing this video with us out here. "OLDIES ROCK"
I lived this time in history and believe me there was nothing like the Saturday night sock hops and hold your favorite girl tight in your arms and dancing to a song like this...what a time...gone but not forgotten!
One of the great songs from the late 50s era! No doubt this song will be classified as an immortal of pop songs of all ages!
A marvellous song - very well composed to suit the crying voice of Jimmy. A classic tune!
I prefer blaring out this beautiful song from a 45rpm record - switch off the lights and this tune will send me back to the late 50s era where life was so innocent, full of new discoveries, good traditional food, beautiful movies, classic cars, multi colored striped shirts for boys .
This female singer was not the original but what a voice she has. She backed up on the Lion Sleeps Tonight with that incredible opera sound on the same show.
Great song & great group. They don't make them like this anymore. I lived in this era and wish every day that I could do it again. Times were great and life went on in a slow and easy way. Never will we ever see this again...
My girl friend & i were dancing cheek to cheek to this song in 1958 at the sadie hawkins dance, when a teacher walked up tp us and said no bodily contact is permitted, my how times have changed, this was at mountain view high school in mtn view cal, the girl i was dancing with is now my wife of almost 45yrs.
She broke up with me, but 20 years later at our high school reunion she asked me to dance with her and said wistfully "You were the very first guy I ever went out with." I couldn't say the words, but I felt a whole lot better - after 20 years of thinking I didn't mean anything to her. I'll never forget her. Al, the nvp. p.s. Did you guys notice the beautiful girl on violin?
Interesting comment, namvet, do you happen to know if Donna and Mark have children? How wonderful to pass their many talents on. I love the Skyliners--anytime, any song.
Don't know if they have kids. I really like Donna's way of presenting herself in this video with the Skyliners. "Since I Don't Have You" will likely always be my favorite song since high school (Class of '66). Al, the nvp.
This stinks. There is no provision in this system to give these rock icons a 99. This music is the solid foundation that later music is built upon. Made when talent was still required. Rock on.
Yes, I agree, credit to Donna Groom's range; my only overall opinion was, in my view, after listening to several other versions of this song, The Skyliners remains my favorite.
I thank randmo for posting this and other great songs from the Doo Wop era, thank you.
That brings back fond memories. The Skyliners were hot back in the 60's. But I must say Donna Groom really picked up the performance of"Since I don't have you". Play it and listen to Donna Groom.
Unbelievable, how amazing was that !!!! stands the test of time...big time,,,,

Rock on.

THe Skyliners are the best. Hope they come back to the Newberry (S.C.) Opera House again.

I agree with bubayou. Donna has a great range and it brings mist to my eyes when she sings the end! Fabulous! Thanks for posting!

This group reminds me of what comfort was in the 50-60's.
Haven't had that feeling in a long time.

I love her solo line at the end, almost sounds like a theremin sine wave, so clear and sweet and nice!

Cavalier777 thanks for reading my coment, and yes I agree with you that the best part is at the end.

Donna Groom was unbelievable, not only is she a Real Sexy Beauty but when she sang the ending of the song It gave me chills all over.
Do you know if she has a sister ?

Yes, I agree, credit to Donna Groom's range; my only overall opinion was, in my view, after listening to several other versions of this song, The Skyliners remains my favorite.
I thank randmo for posting this and other great songs from the Doo Wop era, thank you.

That brings back fond memories. The Skyliners were hot back in the 60's. But I must say Donna Groom really picked up the performance of"Since I don't have you". Play it and listen to Donna Groom.

Jimmy Beaumont & The Skyliners, even at their advanced age, make this version still Number One, sorry Guns n Roses fans.
