I am a cable television producer in the Seattle area. We covered Ref 71 as the only media that did in WA state. I would love to interview you both for an upcoming show on Referendum 71, and how that it has helped families like ours. Contact me at 206-736-9688 Thank you
Thank you to everyone who voted for Ref 71! We need to keep fighting though, especially at the federal level. For instance, Avril could not get FMLA when she took time off to care for me after my major surgery; if I would die, my ex would get my social security benefits (shudder), etc. Stuff that straight married people take for granted, even little stuff like filing your taxes jointly.
Also, to all people out there that are not media literate; videos like these are not always 100% accurate. For example the two daughters actually live with their father and stepmother in Lewiston, and only go to their mother's house for visitation. So don't believe every sob story you come accross.
Also to all people ou there that are not media literate, video comments like these are not always 100% accurate. For example we have joint custody of all our children and told that to the videographer. There is a lot more to the story around our current visitation arrangement. So don't believe every bitter comment you come across.
What difference does it make what our custody arrangements with our children are? We are real people, with real lives and end up struggling with unnecessary problems because we can't get married.
Ridiculous! Haven't you ever heard of a living will? It is up to you to designate your power of atty health/finances. This stupid referrendum is not about keeping unwanted people away from your assets. It's about allowing unmarried people to have the same rights as married people, regardless of sexual orientation.
This video wasn't about assets! They asked us what benefit domestic partnership had already granted us before Ref 71 and we spoke of being glad Avril had the right to hospital visitation.
Angster99, you hide behind your log in name and seem to have an attitude problem. What is your beef? Why do you have to use words like stupid and ridiculous?
My partner and I are worried about the exact same thing with my parents, who don't really approve of our relationship and would keep my partner out if they could.

Thanks for sharing your story! It really makes a difference when LGBT families speak out. I'm so glad Ref 71 passed in your state.
