Actually, they DID get the tax cuts... the bill is over 40% tax cuts, and a little under 60% spending. The reason they debate against the bill is because they believe it's too large and they want to cut back on things that they don't believe will stimulate the economy.

The money spent on one day of the Iraq war could buy homes for almost 6,500 families or health care for 423,529 children, or could outfit 1.27 million homes with renewable electricity. The funding is for federal wetlands projects. It has nothing to do with Pelosi or a specific type of mouse. The charges are fabricated because the Republicans appear hellbent on doing anything they can to mock the Obama administration and obstruct any efforts to get the country out of the mess we're in.
These projects need people to work on them, so they will create or maintain jobs and are important for biodiversity.

What a bunch of hypocrites. On the one hand they complain about $30 million dollars for mice (there's gotta be a very reasonable explanation for this if it's true), but on the other hand they oppose salary caps for bank execs that got bailout money. Tell me, Rep. Price, how do $18 billion in bonuses for already stinkin' rich people help the american taxpayer?

I find it highly unlikely that scientists regularly blow money on mice, for no percived purpose.

There is no $30 million for mice in the bill; this is just typical Republican politics. There is money for a Federal wetlands project. It's like saying "$30 million for crack dealers!" for a bill that proposes $30 million in housing subsidies, since it's possible that a crack dealer might move into one of the houses.

Those wetlands don't restore themselves. It takes engineers, bulldozer operators, and countless others. That's the point of stimulus. Find projects that are ready to go and fund them right now to get that money into the economy.

classicFIHD, i did your research on the mouse, and it seems like Rep Price assumed that there was a $30 million fund for the mouse based on info by a staff member who thinks that there is such thing. But there is no mention of the mouse on the bill (so far). I feel sorry for all of you playing into politics for nothing.

Dot#1 In the Stimulus Package, 50 million dollars go to activities authorized by the California Bay-Delta Restoration Act.
Dot#2 California Bay-Delta Restoration Act states there are 750 plant and animal species, some listed as threatened or endangered in California.
DOT#3 the Government's Department of Fish and Game of endangered species covering California says the Salt-Marsh Harvest Mouse is an endangered species.
