I think that in the wild they live in burrows underground. Maybe if you constructed an elevated enclosure that they could then walk down into, it would mitigate this behavior somewhat.

They belong where they have lived for millennia, in the wild.
If you have doubts that these animals will not suffer in captivity just do a research on the relationship between man and dog. It takes many generations before a fox or a badger will not suffer to a very considerable degree of suffering.
Treat them like objects? Their owners spend a lot of money and time to take care of their pets. They give them food, toys, make places to sleep for them and treat them like they are part of the family; Pets are like children to most owners.
It's nowhere near treating them like objects, so stop judging people, when you don't know anything about them.
Maybe we should let you back in the wild and see how you can manage.

I find it insulting that people think its REALLY COOL to get a wild animal as a pet and keep it in a small room or an apartment when it belongs IN THE WILD.
I do hope she/he does take care of the foxes for the duration of their lives, but given the fact that so many animal shelters are over-flowing with unwanted/abandoned dogs, cats, rabbits and other pets I'M JUST NOT THAT OPTIMISTIC.
Next time you want to take up a cause try sheltering abused and abandoned animals!
They may be wild animals but the ones most people have have been around people and as pets all their lives. They don't know anything else. If you were just to suddenly let them go they wouldn't know how to fend for themselves or to get their own food. And after all if people hadn't started this with wolves so long ago we wouldn't have our common dog. Also, since these foxes are high maintanence and cost so much I would have no doubt that they are and will be taken well care of.
All pet fennecs are born in captivity, bottle fed, and introduced to humans early in their lives. They wouldn't last a week in the wild. You're a fucking fool, luseeedwards.

Captive born and hand raised Fennecs my not fear humans but still have all their natural instincts. I bet these would thrive in Arizona. I have seen the most fucked up cat (Persian) go ferral and live a fairly long life as a hunter and cats have been around humans far longer than Fennecs.

In their native territory they are hunted for sport and fur by the locals. They are also becoming endangered there. Sounds like a great place to live instead of a sheltered home. The ones that are pets aren't taken from the wild. They are bread in captivity. Captive breeding will help to save the species, not harm them.
As much as I would like to see the wild population flourish, I have to agree on that point. If they get hunted to extinction, which is a real possibility in those regions, all that will be left are the pets and the domestibreeds. They were MEANT to be like this, and they are HAPPY like this. These Fennec pets are semi-domesticated, as they have been specially bred to be pets. While they haven't hit the generation landmark that the Belyavev experiment hit by domesticating the Fur Factory Silver Fox, they are not in any shape to return to the wild. Yes they are not a good choice as pets, because they have special antics that would drive most people nuts, but they can be great pets for the proper owner who knows how to care for them.

I find it insulting that people think its REALLY COOL to get a wild animal as a pet and keep it in a small room or an apartment when it belongs IN THE WILD.
I do hope she/he does take care of the foxes for the duration of their lives, but given the fact that so many animal shelters are over-flowing with unwanted/abandoned dogs, cats, rabbits and other pets I'M JUST NOT THAT OPTIMISTIC.
Next time you want to take up a cause try sheltering abused and abandoned animals!

They may be wild animals but the ones most people have have been around people and as pets all their lives. They don't know anything else. If you were just to suddenly let them go they wouldn't know how to fend for themselves or to get their own food. And after all if people hadn't started this with wolves so long ago we wouldn't have our common dog. Also, since these foxes are high maintanence and cost so much I would have no doubt that they are and will be taken well care of.

@IlSilentEarthIl Your claim is just wrong. If Fennecs "got out" in a climate appropriate for them, they would thrive. Fennecs have not been fucked up like what humans did to the wolf. Captive born and hand raised Fennecs my not fear humans but still have all their natural instincts. I bet these would thrive in Arizona. I have seen the most fucked up cat (Persian) go ferral and live a fairly long life as a hunter and cats have been around humans far longer than Fennecs.

This video looks very cruel. These animals are accustomed to being out in expansive open areas. To see these two locked in this small room is saddening.
What will you do with them once your infatuation has faded and they are no longer useful for your YouTube videos? Will you just abandon them? Do you know that they can live to be about 15 years? In their native territory they are hunted for sport and fur by the locals. They are also becoming endangered there. Sounds like a great place to live instead of a sheltered home. The ones that are pets aren't taken from the wild. They are bread in captivity. Captive breeding will help to save the species, not harm them.

As much as I would like to see the wild population flourish, I have to agree on that point. If they get hunted to extinction, which is a real possibility in those regions, all that will be left are the pets and the domestibreeds. Fennecs are a real one-of-a-kind fox and I would hate to see them go extinct.

Paul and Blaster: From everything I have been studying, the fennec is NOT even close being an endagered species. Yes, they are hunted, but not OVER hunted. We hunt deer and elk in this country and they aren't close to endagered. The Fennec population is doing very well and holding strong, espcecially in the Saudi region.

Actually no. I seek out information from sources with more of a science backing. In this case: zoos, departments of fish and wildlife, breeders, and universities. While yes, it is true that they are hunted, and each study I have read seems to sate that the population is threatened, yet adequate and stable. In fact, in one study they stated those two seeimingly different observations in the same paragraph. I would imagine it's who you talk to.

Le suggar glider, petit animal arboricole est lui aussi domestiqué chez vous, il a passé les frontières et en France, bien qu'interdit en tant qu'animal domestique il y a des gens qui en ont et qui continuent de les reproduire. Les conditions de détention sont très compliquées car il leur faut beaucoup d'espace, de quoi grimper. beaucoup sont abandonnés. Au Canada c'est le hérisson qu'on met en cage, on le multiplie en faisant des sélections pour leur couleur. C'est dégueulasse !

Tout animal prélevé dans la nature pour le multiplier à des fins de domestication est une atteinte à la nature. L'homme a le pouvoir de réfléchir a ses actes, c'est ce qui le différencie de l'animal (théorie à prouver), mais cette faculté ne lui sert qu'à accomplir des gestes inhumains. Like every one keeps saying these are NOT wild animals. This is a special breed of fox bred as pets. They are to wild foxes what a house cat is to a Lynx. They were MEANT to be like this, and they are HAPPY like this. If you took the fennecs from this video and shoved them back into the wild they would be devastated and probably die with in months, if they even make it that far. These are obviously well cared for foxes, so stop complaining!

These Fennec pets are semi-domesticated, as they have been specially bred to be pets. While they haven't hit the generation landmark that the Belyavev experiment hit by domesticating the Fur Factory Silver Fox, they are not in any shape to return to the wild. Yes they are not a good choice as pets, because they have special antics that would drive most people nuts, but they can be great pets for the proper owner who knows how to care for them.

If you think like that then you should also think that Dogs Cats Birds Lizards Snakes Rabbits and other types of pets should be sent to zoos so they can be in cages there instead? Its not a real invironment in the zoo and the animals still try to get out. Atleast when they are at their house they are hopefully getting loved, which sounds corny but its true. Only special animals at zoos get special treatment. Other than that its just a job for people who clean their shit up and feed them.

They are tamed as a pet. They do not seem to become happy by setting loose my foxes as wild animals to outdoor. And, returning it to the outside will kill them.
There is no difference with the dog if it says by their elements. Actually, they are canines.
They are loved as a pet at a lot of homes now. I do not think that there are a dog that you say and a difference. Please know they have the history that has already been tamed as a pet.

The Belyavev experiment showed that selective breeding based on behavior causes domestication, but it also alters the growth of the animal, resulting in unusual traits not found in the wild. As for domesticating Tigers, well, good luck and don't get eaten!
