@stupidjunk978 I'm very happy you made that admission, there's not many people who have the courage to admit something like that, you can be my friend. :)

You may be interested in that. It's a hack to allow Atom support by replacing kernel for OS X. I personally haven't tried it so i can't say how good it is, but the replies are positive.
It's up to yourself if you want to try it, and as you can probably imagine it'll require a good bit of work to get right.
Well Im backing off.. Looks like the update failed and now looking for alternatives. Sorry if I lead anyone a stray.. Been hacking for many years and sure enough this update broke allot of systems not just Atoms.
First of all you need to clean your computer screen. You should have a gotten a Kernel dump.. Looks to me like you turned computer off.. Never seen OSX just shut off the system because the hardware is not supported.. I call BS on this one.. Stop spreading bad rumors. Been running 10.6.1 On a Dell Mini 9 no issues.. I do not see future issues either. ATOM Processors were not really supported in MAC OSX thats why they are hacks...
FLST2000US- good point that OSX doesnt *usually just restart like that.
however...im not sure if you're aware of the recent news that the 10.6.2 dev build did lack ATOM processor support. it's quite possible that the prasys installed this build.
2 days later ATOM support was added back into a new dev build.
I wouldn't be so quick to call this one BS..
perhaps prasys could show those of us who dont believe those verbose errors
Agreed.. Maybe I jumped the gun here but I have built several Hackintoshs for fun and normally you receive a Kernel dump if the Hardware is not compatible. He did preform a -V for verbose mode so it should have returned a value.
What I would like to see is a functional version then upgraded and then fail.
He did preform a -V for verbose mode.
Just like the Dell MINI 9 if your Kext files are incorrect you get a nice little screen telling you to reboot your OSX.
damn. I'm still on 10.5.6, but this could be a sign of things to come. i hope apple continues to tolerate us-- osx86 really does convert windows users to Macintosh land.
Any news on whether the newest Leopard build still removes atom support?
Because maintaining a hackintosh is a little more work then a real mac. Eventually some hackintosh users switch to owning real macs. Personally I'll get a mac when apple offers a tower in the same performance/price range as the iMac.
Agreed running Apple hardware is the best I have several in the house as well as several hacked versions on other hardware. Mainly to test and play with. But yes if you love OSX then buy a MAC.. My MAC Pro is my beast with 8 Zion procs and 18 Gigs of memory this thing is a beast. But its fun to try new things and the Dell MIni 9 was my first hack and it was difficult to build at first but Im up to a 10.6.1 without an issue. Waiting on the 10.6.2 upgrade.
here's why apple should care. i hear about OSX, i want to give it a shot. i'm not yet sold on their expensive hardware, so i figure 'hey why not give it a shot on my netbook to gauge the user experience and find out if i want to get an imac' ... now? forget it, i can't try it, i won't buy it.

OH YE OF LITTLE FAITH.. has not the
open source community showed you anything? Be patient, we have made strides to run vanilla for that "Mac experience" : }
venomheirr 2 years ago
Anyway its confirmed that apple has removed support for Atom CPU. Say goodbye to Atom CPUs , now you can't run 100% Vanilla (Virgin OSX)

System will reboot if the CPU is unsupported by the kernel, it's been that way forever.

Why would Apple care you are converting? You're not buying Apple products.

Most people would just stick with their cheap $200 dollar build, and never think about buying a mac

I was running on 10.5.8 for a while before upgrading to 10.6.1. You really have nothing to fear updating to the latest Leopard install.
