i LOVE maybelline new york one by one volume express mascara!!!!!!!!! it is my absolute favorite mascara it does an amazing job at lengthing my lashes and even though i do have some pretty awsome lashes this mascara makes my lashes look fake!
i love the RIMMEL Londons Glameyes Mascara which is a rubber brush - it's the first mascara i can use without looking like a bad pornstar. i have long eyelashes and if i use the traditional wands it just looks clumpy. so yay for the rubber brushes
I found that I really like the new Covergirl one in an orange tube. I like that it's plastic, it seperates my lashes and it doesn't make my eyes water like normal mascara does. I like the formula and brush!
Just like you mentioned in the video, I find that the traditional mascara wands are better for building volume and length, etc... while the rubber brush mascaras are better for separating lashes and giving you a really clump free look. I personally like the rubber brush mascaras for use in my photo shoots and such, but traditional mascara wands definitely have their place.
I like the rubber mascara brushes for me they are less clumping. After reading magginine's post about the nivea mascara w/ both types of wands I would definitly love to try that!
The rubber is a lot better for me because they lengthen and separate my lashes a lot better than any of the others I've ever tried. I also don't get that huge clump in the center like with traditional bristle mascaras. Sally had this in/out promo on the Spinlash. I haven't tried it yet, but it is a battery operated rubber bristle mascara that spins and it seems like a great idea..like combining the application of mascara and an eyelash curler in one.
Most of my friends seem to be using the rubber ones but actually I like the other ones because when I'm putting on my mascara, I like to hold in place and shape my eyelashes how I want it, as the rubber ones kind of mess up mine for some reason, it gets all messy. The one I use to really good, its called Mega Protein by Wet n' Wild.
i absolutely adore the rubber brushes. i somehow think its better for my eyelashes. i use the max factor masterpiece and have been using it since it came out.
i do think its time for me to find a new mascara. maybe i'll even get a traditional one to try out again!
i prefer the traditional wand because they add on more mascara, but then again, it depends on how its made b/c i have define-a-lash and i use my max factor wand instead; BUT, haha, i also just bought lash exact by CG, and it has a rubber brush and i like it b/c it does what the D-A-L and Max wand did..
i had also recently bought lash maxxx by rimmel london and it has the comb applicator, and i didnt see much of a difference when i used it from the define-a-lash rubber wand..
i hate hate hate the rubber wands. i feel like they dont comb through the lashes well enough. i just got mark scandalash and i loveee it, the only bad thing is that it is TINY. then i ususally throw a cheap water proof mascara (using something from wet n wild) over it because i curl my lashes after i apply mascara and they need to be a bit dry and stiff to hold the curl. i want to try a loreal mascara, telescopic is the popular one right?
TRADITIONAL!! i do not like the rubber brush mascaras at all- they claim to be 'clump free' and still dramatic looking, but i can never build up the drama with rubber mascaras like i can with traditional brush mascaras- and I love drama. The rubber mascaras are not as buildable and just more 'natural looking' I
Hey everyone! I think this question of the week is going really well and I love reading your responses! I thought of an idea- when I post my next question of the week I can provide a total of who liked which kind of mascara! woohoo!
Personally, I'm loving my rubber brush mascaras. In particular, I absolutely love my Rimmel Eye Magnifier mascara. I just find that they seperate the lashes and add much more volume better than my mascaras with the traditional wand.
I have both types and I have to say I prefer the traditional. I'm just using up my lash blast. I think the other rubber one I have is a Max Factor mascara. They are ok, but I think that overall, the traditional works better. Of course, formula has something to do with it too.
I really like the traditional mascaras, my favorites are Diorshow Black Out, Mirenesse Secret Weapon 24Hr Mascara, Too Face Lash Injection and MAC's Plush Lash. I have yet to find a Drugstore one I like, so when money is low I get Plush Lash. It's basically like buying Lashblast, a few dollars difference. I'm really excited to try Diorshow Iconic, because I do like how the rubber ones separate. I think I have a problem more with formulas of the ones I tried.
I'm a fan of the traditional brushes, although the rubber ones are good, the rubber bristles tend to just break off after a while. I love max factor mascaras, i've got masterpiece & lashlift, they're both amazing :)
rubber wants are better,i've tried a lot of brands, but i simply love rimmel's glam'eyes mascara(i never thought that rubber wands will work,i got it at a "buy one get one free" sale and i am very happy i did
as for the regular wand mascaras,i absolutely love l'oreal's intensifique (that's the name in eu),i don't know if they have it in the us,if they do,go and try it, u wont't regret it :)
I definitely prefer rubber wands. I get less clumping and less wasted product. With traditional wands I always end up with huge globs of mascara that I have to blot off or some globs always end up on my lashes. I agree that with rubber wands there is little to no volume, but the lenghening is great for me. I'm still trying to find a mascara I like. I keep switching because I always find something I don't like about a mascara. I want a "go to" mascara!
I think I've tried all kinds of mascara wands there are - the only one I can really work with is the just normal one, which is the most similar to an ordinary wand brush. Odd thing so, the mascara itself is not as important as the brush for me. I can use even half dried in one (like the W'n'W likes to do) as long as the wand is "my thing" I can boost my lashes like nothing *laughs*
As for this I stock a package of ordinary one-time wand/lash brushes.
i usually only like rubber wands. the only exceptions are maybelline colassal (yes i know not many people like it but hey it works for me) and badgal lash
Cover Girl Lash Blash is good for volume, but it clumps on me sometimes. I also don't like how the end of the mascara has no bristles. I always have trouble applying the mascara on my inner and outer lashes, which are pretty long. I always have to use a different mascara for that. I normally don't wear Lash Blash by itself. I usually apply a different mascara first, and then I use Lash Blash for the finishing touches. All in all, it's still a pretty good mascara, but it is overrated.
I have tried both and at least for me I like the traditional. It seems like I get more length especially towards the outer edges. I have tried the lash blast and I noticed flaking and actually more breakage of my lashes. I don't know if this is more of a problem with the formula or wand. My current faves are Mary Kay Signature or Mac Zoomlash...Just my opinion:D
I think I tend to like traditional brushes better. Not sure if you've tried the voluminous full definition, but it's in a gold tube. It's fantastic. I didn't think anything could beat out voluminous.
I tried lash blast and I hated it. Maybe its because I have a small eye area but I ended up getting more product on my skin than I did on my lashes. I have seen professional MU artists on TV and they all recommend smaller wands. They say you can reach all your lashes with a smaller wand. I think they're right. My favorite mascaras are by Tarte in the purple tube and Zero Smudge by Estee Lauder.
Tried Dior Show and Supenova and were both okay and was just tired of spending 32-38 bucks so went on to lashblast and really liked what it did for me and got lots of compliments when I was wearing it, tried Rimmels new on glam or something like that like it took just not as thick but definetely get super length from that one, just not great thickness. Such a different choice for most as what one works for one does not work for the other, but do like the rubber brushes more it seems like.
I like both, but it also depends on the mascara formula. Some of it clumps, flakes and smears no matter what it's applied with. And some dries too quickly before you are done applying it with a tricky wand. I do not like the Lash Blast because there are no bristles at the end. I apply it with another wand. It's hard to remove too. But I do like the Rimmel wands. The combs take awhile to get used to. I only use them when I have extra time.
i got lash blast our of pure curiosity, not that i wasnt happy with my voluminous. personally, im not sure why all the hype with lash balst. even with one coat, it clumped. i went back to my voluminous after a week and im never going to anything else!
I have pretty decent lengthed lashes. Not too short and not overly long, so I'm definitely more into the volume when it comes to mascara. So far I'd have to say that I do love the traditional ones a lot because they're just so easy to use. The rubber ones I feel take a bit of work to apply, to ensure that you the mascara all spreaded out. And probably cause I haven't found an awesome rubber wand mascara just yet.
I have been a lashblast fan since it came out because they are so full however....I feel like these plastic or rubber applicators coat the lashes way thicker than normal? I get flakey throughout the day yeah my lashes seem fuller because there is so much product on each lash. It seperates them but it loads on the mascara
i don't know if its the type of lashes i have, though i consider mine to be pretty average, but i hate anything plastic or rubber, (even the combs), because they just dont build, perhaps only give a hint of color. but my fav has to b the HIP, just cuz its so inky, and it builds to whatever extent u need it to build, (i like it better than DIORSHOW even!!)
I've never tried a rubber brush, all of my mascaras are the traditional brushes. Fantastic Lash, Full `n Soft, Volum' Express ... I heard rubber wands break easily
I think it's definetly all in what you're looking for. I find the traditional brushes to pack on the volume, but they tend to clump. If you already have those thick lashes but are looking for length and separation, rubber wands are the way to go!
To me the more important thing in a mascara is the brush, I usually go for the traditional brush, the only rubber brush mascara i´ve tried is lash blash and I love it it gives me the most beautiful lashes.
i'm definitely a fan of the rubber wands! i have long lashes, but i need separation and fullness and i feel like mascaras like lash blast and define a lash do that for me. i'm actually kinda surprised to hear so many people comment on how much they don't like lash blast here. i will say though that the original voluminous is my fave traditional brush mascara!! the non-waterproof max factor 2000 calorie is a good one too
i prefer both rubber brushes and sometimes the traditional ones. I find that some traditional mascara wands sometimes clump my lashes. But i've been using a rimmel mascara ( extra super length) and it dosen't clump at all. I think the rubber wands tend to not clump as much
I have found that I prefer the traditional brushes. I have found a couple of the rubber brushes that I like. There is one by Max Factor that works well. I do not like Lash Blast and the Define a Lash has broken with both of my purchases. I have tried several others also that I don't like. I have also found that they take too long to dry on my lashes. I truly hope that all mascaras do not switch to the rubber brushes. I don't know if it is a coincidence, but I don't care for the formulas.
Personally, I don't see that much of a difference really - but I guess I prefer the traditional brushes too b/c I find the rubber ones tend to be more focused on separation/definition, and I prefer volume/dramatic on myself - I may be the only person who actually likes slightly clumpy lashes, LOL, I think they look rock'n'roll! :)
So I guess my answer is that I like the traditional fat type better
I seem to prefer the traditional brush, though I do like Max Factor volume couture. The Max Factor has a smaller rubber brush and seems to apply the mascara pretty much just like a traditional brush. I to NOT like the wand of the Lash Blast it is so big it's hard to see where you are applying the product. I like the formula of Lash Blast just not the wand.
I really like the rubber ones and have found now going back to a bristle wand I keep hurting my eye when I'm wiggling it at the base of my lashes so I will keep using the rubber ones. Chanel Inimitable is my fave.
Great topic. I really prefer the traditional wands moreso than the rubber wands. While the rubber wand gives, I find it to be too much work to separate my lashes. I also look for a curl and I haven't been able to get that from a rubber wand. I'm too afraid of poking my eye with it. Traditional forces me to be careful, but the round edge doesn't threaten my vision.
I don't like the rubber brushes at all I've tried a few and trashed them all so far. I have long thick eyelashes and the brushes make them stick together in little groups of about 6 lashes with gaps in between each group. Its really odd looking... I prefer the normal bristle brushes I think they give a more natural look.
I use both the DiorShow (traditional) and Lash Blast (rubber). I find that the Dior gives me fuller, longer lashes while the LashBlast defines them more rather than making them look fuller. I just recently purchased Rimmel Magnifying Mascara with that weird wand w/out bristles...YUCK! Ideas for future questions: 1.)Liquid vs Mineral foundation....2.)BareMinerals vs Everyday minerals (or some other less expensive brand.) 3.) Waterproof vs Regular mascara (I can never tell which one is better!)
ya I own both and really the rubber isnt anything to write home about and I just tried a new mascara I heard of from a girl on here its the flash by rimmel its a mousse mascara and omg its great its one of the best i have ever used. Good subject thou my friend was just talkin about rubber wands the other day and was wondering if she should try one.
I prefer rubber brushes because they seem to lengthen and separate my lashes better and not clump as much as the traditional bristles. But I usually go for more natural look, so I guess I don't really need that much volume that the traditional wand provides.
I know, it is kind of hard to find. I found mine at my local Wal mart store. If you can't find it there maybe try Rite Aid, Walgreens or Longs. Hope this helps.
Great Idea!!! I would have to say I prefer the traditional wands. I do use both, but what I've noticed is when I use the rubber wands, I always end up having to use a disposable spooly to brush through to get them separated. I think they have too much product on them. I find the traditional wands really give volume and length.
I love Voluminous. I tried Clinque's mascara with the dual wand and comb and I couldn't get used to it and I tried the Maybelliene Define-a-Lash and it just didn't work for me
I tried Lash Blast and I did not like it at all but I do like the Lash Exact, which I don't know if its rubber or traditional. But I'm currently using Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara and it works so great to volumize and lenghten my eyelashes!!!
I prefer the traditional brushes. My favorite mascara is Maybelline Full 'N Soft. The only rubber brushed mascara I've tried is the Maybelline Define-A-Lash, so I suppose my opinion isn't technically valid, but the traditional ones seem to do the job... as long as they keep both, I won't be complaining. :)
I personally use both types of brushes, for example i'll use Lashblast, and then i'll use another type of mascara on top of that(with the traditional wand). It just makes my lashes have more volume that way somehow.
I defiantly prefer the more traditional brushes. I find that most of the mascaras with the rubber bristles are too flimsy and I need a good solid brush to brush through my lashes and give me the look I want. The worst rubber brush is by far the one that comes with the Rimmell Glam'Eyes!
rubber brushes are great for separation and length. traditional wands are great for volume. i personally prefer the original mascara wand (i love max factor mascaras c:
Emily, super idea ! I prefer the traditional brush because it does more volume and thickness. Ex. : Bionic Mascara by Smashbox or the Collosal by Maybelline
I really dont have a preference because i feel that some of the rubber ones do what some of the traditional ones dont do and vice versa...but for those who are not yet convinced that the rubber bristle mascaras arent good i highly recomend you try Rimmel's Glam Eyes mascara! That stuff is great! It looks as if im falsies when i have that mascara on! I LOVE IT!
I generally prefer the traditional bristle brushes like the ones on Rimmel's Extra Super Lash & Maybelline's Full N Soft...but some rubber wands are alright as well. Lashblast, for example, is okay in that department.
The new rubber mascaras definately creates some excitement because people always like to see something new every now and then, just like the mineral makeup that have gotten incredibly popular over the years. However many people still prefer the liquid foundations. Also, high end brands like estee lauder, dior etc still make and constantly coming up with new formulas of liquid foundations. To sum up, I think they are both good.Traditional or new, they just give consumers more choices!
When I was in Europe I got a fantastic Nivea Beauty product which is 2 mascaras in one wand...a traditional for volume and a rubber for separation and length. Amaaaaaaazing product and I like using both with the rubber being the final sweep for a clean look.
To me, i think that rubber ones are more seperating than thickening or lengthening. i personally, too like regular mascaras better i think the other ones are just trying to get people to get their mascara since its something new. but i dont like it as good =]
my fav. mascara is hypnose from lancome and it has a regular brush =]
I find the rubber bristle mascaras hurt my eyes a bit, they're usually pretty good, but they definitely have an unpleasant sensation when you apply them. Good topic!!
I miss her questions of the week. Isn't it on her blog now?

i prefer both rubber brushes and sometimes the traditional ones.

Cool idea to do these questions! :)

Chanel Inimitable is my fave.
p.s LOVE your nails!! they look great! :)

I've seen Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara in my local wal-mart too.

I prefer rubber brushes because they seem to lengthen and separate my lashes better and not clump as much as the traditional bristles. But I usually go for more natural look, so I guess I don't really need that much volume that the traditional wand provides.

Drugstores, usually CVS carries it.

For idea for this type of weekly feature :
Cream blush vs powder blush ?
Liquid, cake or powder eyeliner ?

Amaaaaaaazing product and I like using both with the rubber being the final sweep for a clean look.

i could go either way :)
it really depends on the formula for me,
and how i want my lashes to look that day =D

The rubber brush mascara's clump my eyelashes and I find them to be messy and not volumizing at all!!
mardel3 3 years ago
To me, i think that rubber ones are more seperating than thickening or lengthening. i personally, too like regular mascaras better i think the other ones are just trying to get people to get their mascara since its something new. but i dont like it as good =]
my fav. mascara is hypnose from lancome and it has a regular brush =]

I find the rubber bristle mascaras hurt my eyes a bit, they're usually pretty good, but they definitely have an unpleasant sensation when you apply them. Good topic!!
belledumonde07 3 years ago
I get a lot more clumping with rubber brushes. WIth the tradition type, I generally get a lot more length and thickness, without as much clumping.
Also, Diorshow=Love.

Oh-it would be really cool if they came out with a brush with a rubber inside, for the bendability, and then bristles to actually apply with.
FrEaKiShLyMe 3 years ago
i def. prefer traditional mascaras. they do muuuuch better job. i own none of rubber brush mascaca
