Okay look. People need to realize that the Firecross and the Swastika are two different things. Yeah they look similar, but nobody's glorifying Hitler (who was a terrible man who did terrible things) and nobody should be penalized for displaying symbols that represent their ancestors and heritage! They've dispelled Nazi rumors and even changed their logo, for Thor's sake.
@Metallicazack totally agree. just wanted to add that Firecross and Swastika is actually all the same. Swastika "svástika" is possible ancestor of all other spinning crosses around the world, it was the sign of happiness back there in India. In Latvian tradition it was the sign of protection, that's why it was hung over the cradle right after the birth of the child, that's why it was often put on a battle robes and weapons. And it also keeps it's connotation with happiness and fate.
@Metallicazack A symbol stands for what people that use it want to express with it. Swastika as used by the nazis can be found nowadays (in exactly the same shape and features) in hinduism for example, and in the past it was widely used by european pagans. I do not believe in any kind of "nazi swastika". There are varieties of this symbol sure, but I don't find it necessary to justify (for "holocaust reasons" etc) the right to mention or use swastika.
Well-informed people like you or I know its noble history and the fact that it has nothing to do with batshit hatemongers like Adolf Hitler... But many people don't. And unfortunately until the world starts waking up I personally feel the need to preface my use of the swastika to distance myself from neo-Nazis (etc...)
Of course that's a personal choice, but it pisses me off when I get flamed for using it, so I usually make it clear what I mean by it.
well + that sign was used for honoring god "thunder" and protection against all evil, that is the most powerful symbol of baltic religion ... and it was few thousand years before adolf was even born. @Metallicazack You think Hitler was a terrible man who did terrible things? Unlike Stalin and most world leaders he cared about his people and his country enough and did everything he said he would. Because of Hitler, Germany is now a great country with a great economy. Big deal he instructed the deaths of 6,000,000 Jews. Stalin from Russia did not care about his people and did not care about his country and starved 20,000,000 in the Ukraine. He was a great leader people like you don't realize.
@TheNaziJesus That is, of course, great oversimplification. Crusades were a: religious movements with goal to protect something holy The Children's Crusade had no wish to eradicate all muslims. b: greedy chonquers. That's why there were no crusades against Sams and why crusades into Lithuania continued even after they accepted catholicism. c: self defense. Applies to Spanish reconquista mostly. Your reason d: applies to crusades against cathars mainly.
@TheNaziJesus So. Celtic folklore survived. No crusades there, christainity was accepted voluntarily. The same is true about most viking cultures. Crusades were hold against baltic countries. The old culture also survived. A fact against crusaders against crusaders:P
@TheNaziJesus yes but Stailin wasnt out to make a super race, he wasnt out to eradicate everyone who didnt fit the requirments of being apart of said super race.
Yes, you're right. Stalin wans't out to erradicate everyone who didn't fit the requirements of being appt of a super race.
He was out to erradicate everyone who didn't fit the requirements of a super society. For filling this requirement, the commies killed millions of people who were "social thrash", as nazis killed the "racial thrash" ones.
@TheNaziJesus 20 mil is far too high for Holodomor deaths. estimates range from ~3 to 10 mil generally. and 6 mil holocaust deaths is nothing to sneeze at.
hitler brought nothing but disgrace to his people. germany has been a great power ever since it was unified in 1871. we have prussian leaders and the german people to thank for germany's might, not a mentally unstable socialist demagogue.
stalin was despicable. but that does not make hitler good.

@TheNaziJesus even if i'm not actually fond of Jewish (because they claim to be the chosen nation, which makes them think they are better than others), you still seem to be insensible and hard-hearted person. but if you keep being that kind of person, you might be lucky - maybe you'll meet your idol in hell(if such place exists). there is a difference between right and wrong, just like between black and white.

Our historian got arested with swastika symbols and he defended himself in the court and now it's legal to display as long as it is not in a white cyrcle in a red background ! I'm telling you brother something beuttiful is about to happen to Europe :)
@Metallicazack These guys are from Latvia. Fuck all these stupid explanations. Their music has nothing to do with the German and they have long hair. Nazis have no hair. Fuck y'all
I made this account when I was 11 years old. Are you seriously harping on me for my name when you named yourself after a condiment? Ilikemustard? Seriously? Grow the fuck up.
LOL. Awesome. Cause Hitler didn't orchestrate the demise of thousands of innocent Slavs or view them as racially inferior or anything, right? Dumbass.
@Metallicazack Hitler! HitlerI - Why the fuck, you russians never talk about Lenin and Stalin and what they did. hmm... Yeah, because you won the war, and you don't give a damn, you just still can't live with the fact, that Latvia is free country, you don't no a shit of what are this music and symbols about - do you! because you just hate latvians, you invader -thougts and megalomania obsessed fool!
Actually I'm not Russian. I have no idea where you got that idea. I hate communism just as much as I hate Nazism. I was arguing with Ilikemustard because he claims to have some kind of love for Hitler despite being Russian (when it's well known that Nazis were aggresively anti-Slavic.) I'm 100% anti-communist and stand behind a free Latvia without interference from Russia or communist sattelite states. Please read carefully before you jump to violent conclusions.
The NSDAP weren't anti-Slavic, they were anti-Russian. Russians differ from native Slavs by quite a bit. In fact, there was an ongoing friendship between the Slavic nations and Germany.
@Metallicazack The mayans, the Hindus and some north american natives use the swastika, loooooong before nazis.Im a mexican into pagan folk metal,I do understand what you said. Some people dont know the real meaning of particular symbols.
I respect every nation in this world. But I know that russians and judes do not respect latvians. That is their problem but it is not my problem
Before you judge somebody latvians, for example.
You just need to know who is latvians.
And if we talk about this song, before judge you just need to undertand or translite WORDS of the song.
Latvians is peasfull and not agressive, but sometimes they are soldiers in war. And last wars where was latvians as a soldiers, those wars wasnt latvian wars.
so whats all this swastika nonsense its an old pagan symbol used by many cultures remember all our ancestor tribes and nations traded with each other with far less racism than we have today so of course they all have similar symbols of life and earth majics etc ....nazis where just a small group of fascists from a tiny part of our history
to daemonesc: actually, racism worked as a crucial social aspect in many cultures all over the world and throughout the history. i. e., the hindu castes in india, which are still functional, were originally based upon the skin colour - the darker, the worse. same goes for china, japan and most asian cultures... and, if you read the merchant of venice (or the old testament:-)) you ll see a plenty of evidence there, too...
to Naukkat: i don t know, uh... maybe because they belong to one billion of christians on this planet?
other than that, the old testament was written over ten centuries by thousands of people and was highly reduced and canonised. only the most important stuff remained. still, it is a metaphorical and multi-layered work of literature.
Nation-a group of people united by similiar things such as common history common language common culture and sometimes common religioun usually also common land.
Skyforger sure knows how to bring out true spirit of our national songs....... Shame, that they are being forgotten by pop-rap culture obsessed generation.
I have looked out for any signs of nazi ideology in both bands and can't seem to find any. Of course, both bands sing in polish, and since I'm danish I have a hard time understanding the lyrics, so I might have overlooked some nazi-themes on that account.
I would find it odd if they were nazi but hadn't got any swastikas at all, however. But then again, it's a strange world...
I'm sick of hearing that fucking dirty jewish antipropaganda. It's Indoeuropean-yes, it's pagan-yes, and only then it is "nazi" if you want. There are plenty of symbols around the globe, leave the beautiful swastika in piece!!! Jews are somehow allowed to use, wear and show their fucking Star of David, being the most fascist group of humanoids on earth. This situation is completely unfair!
Believe me, I am as bitter about the fact that I can't wear a swastika without being accursed of being a nazi as you are. I think it's a beautiful sign, and since the dawn of time it has meant prosperity all around the globe, but the nazis seem to have patented it.
That being said, there's no denying that nazi groups and bands use the swastika quite extensively, though not exclusively. Just look at Skyforger's (old) logo!
Well, you basically did say that Skyforger were nazi, heh! Anyway, I am glad to see you agree with me in regards to this swastika issue. Also, it's interesting that hindus use the swastika for religious purposes and it is exactly like the classical "german nazi" one.
I meant to say that Skyforger were proof that it's not exclusively nazis that use the swastika, but oh well.
Come to think of it, I don't think there's a single part of the world where the swastika wasn't known before the rise of nazi germany. A funny (and yet not) thought, really.
Exactly. Also the German word "heil" is a taboo now, which is akin to English "hail", Old Norse "heill" and are cognates of Spanish "saludos", Russian "здорово", etc all deriving from the meaning/concept of "health, success, luck, happiness". I think this "ban" is unfair too.
a little kiss on your hair, from a ....what did you say ? girl of the most pleasant group of human on earth ? You're right for the swastiska. For your thoughts, i think we're not ok you and me.
Imagine, i come here to listen a music i feel sacred, authentic, coming from stars on earth,
and i read those incredible commentaries.
Go on skyforger you are genuine musicians,
Take stars, swatiskas, all things you need,
and continue to give a music strong in emotions. BRAVO.
If Skyforger ever played this song at their concert, they would make the whole concert hall cry. It is simply too beatiful an sad at the same time (you can just see fallen Latvian warriors and the tears of their bretherens in the end of the song).
this is tradicional latvian folk-song. it tells story about man going to war and his sister staying home and waiting for him. he didn't come back home from war.
Ok, all you pro- and conta-fascist commentators: Get the fuck out of here! I don't care, what you retards are arguing about, just get out and let me enjoy the music!

@Metallicazack
The NSDAP weren't anti-Slavic, they were anti-Russian. Russians differ from native Slavs by quite a bit. In fact, there was an ongoing friendship between the Slavic nations and Germany.

And last wars where was latvians as a soldiers, those wars wasnt latvian wars.

so whats all this swastika nonsense its an old pagan symbol used by many cultures remember all our ancestor tribes and nations traded with each other with far less racism than we have today so of course they all have similar symbols of life and earth majics etc ....nazis where just a small group of fascists from a tiny part of our history
daemonesc 2 years ago 4
to daemonesc: actually, racism worked as a crucial social aspect in many cultures all over the world and throughout the history. i. e., the hindu castes in india, which are still functional, were originally based upon the skin colour - the darker, the worse. same goes for china, japan and most asian cultures... and, if you read the merchant of venice (or the old testament:-)) you ll see a plenty of evidence there, too...
Massacrus 2 years ago
Why would someone read old testament or read it and believe it?
Naukkat 2 years ago 4
to Naukkat: i don t know, uh... maybe because they belong to one billion of christians on this planet?
other than that, the old testament was written over ten centuries by thousands of people and was highly reduced and canonised. only the most important stuff remained. still, it is a metaphorical and multi-layered work of literature.

swastika is not an nazi symbol, and has nothing to do with nazism, but i think it's logical that it's forbidden in a lot of countries
many people have traumatic experiences about World War II
and i think we must respect that

I have looked out for any signs of nazi ideology in both bands and can't seem to find any. Of course, both bands sing in polish, and since I'm danish I have a hard time understanding the lyrics, so I might have overlooked some nazi-themes on that account.
I would find it odd if they were nazi but hadn't got any swastikas at all, however. But then again, it's a strange world...
Grotlord 2 years ago 2
I'm sick of hearing that fucking dirty jewish antipropaganda. It's Indoeuropean-yes, it's pagan-yes, and only then it is "nazi" if you want. There are plenty of symbols around the globe, leave the beautiful swastika in piece!!! Jews are somehow allowed to use, wear and show their fucking Star of David, being the most fascist group of humanoids on earth. This situation is completely unfair!
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago 3
Believe me, I am as bitter about the fact that I can't wear a swastika without being accursed of being a nazi as you are. I think it's a beautiful sign, and since the dawn of time it has meant prosperity all around the globe, but the nazis seem to have patented it.
That being said, there's no denying that nazi groups and bands use the swastika quite extensively, though not exclusively. Just look at Skyforger's (old) logo!
Grotlord 2 years ago 2
(As a sidenote, just to make it clear, I didn't intend to imply that Skyforger are nazi, quite the opposite)
Grotlord 2 years ago
Well, you basically did say that Skyforger were nazi, heh! Anyway, I am glad to see you agree with me in regards to this swastika issue. Also, it's interesting that hindus use the swastika for religious purposes and it is exactly like the classical "german nazi" one.
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
I meant to say that Skyforger were proof that it's not exclusively nazis that use the swastika, but oh well.
Come to think of it, I don't think there's a single part of the world where the swastika wasn't known before the rise of nazi germany. A funny (and yet not) thought, really.
Grotlord 2 years ago
Exactly. Also the German word "heil" is a taboo now, which is akin to English "hail", Old Norse "heill" and are cognates of Spanish "saludos", Russian "здорово", etc all deriving from the meaning/concept of "health, success, luck, happiness". I think this "ban" is unfair too.
SolntsaSvet 2 years ago
And the salute of raising the right arm with open hand originates from the Roman Empire.
The nazis sure have corrupted a lot of beautiful things.
Grotlord 2 years ago 3
Hello SontsaSvet:
a little kiss on your hair, from a ....what did you say ? girl of the most pleasant group of human on earth ?
