yes townshend was cautioned by the police in 2003 for downloading kid porn, and placed on the sex register for five years,Would anyone like to purchase sew on badges of Townshend ,also couple of Glitter ones left?
This is great, but what proof is there that it really comes from their Woodstock performance? And, whether or not it does, I've never been able to understand why the band's complete Woodstock set has never been release in its entirety, in both audio and video incarnations, as enough parts of it have so appeared to make it clear that such records do exist.
some people are saying that the "guess who" did this song, and i just can't believe anyone could do it better than the who. so should i waste my time, going to hear their cover? or just shine it on?
@m1kewithaone I also recommend you hear it. It's a fantastic version. I personally think it's better than The Who's version, and I'm a massive Who fan. Quadrophenia = top 3 best albums of all time... But The Guess Who did a great job on their cover. Cheers!
@rlpoloplaya67 well, ok. i just think that some songs are just meant for the original band, you know? but i'll listnen to it. i noticed someone saying that led zeppling did this song also?! sheesh, i can't even imagine that! this was the who's song, why would led zepplin have ever done this?
@rlpoloplaya67 yeah your right. actually i knew it had been done before, i just didn't know by who. and anyway, for me, it just was the "who" you know? i mean i was only 14 and this song made me want to do things to other things!!
@m1kewithaone Oh man, don't mean to be rude, but that's so funny! The Who's cover is good, though I like the one on Live at Leeds better, but as I've pointed out several times today they are about the 5th band to cover it by 1969. It's a classic. :)
... the Guess Who's version is better..??!! If you think that, well, I hope you recover from your illness; the Guess Who's version was tame, to say the least, in comparison... no energy at all.
The Who did it BECAUSE everyone loved the GUESS WHO's version and thought it WAS the WHO. So fans would yell for Daltrey to sing it..they finally did. But it doesn't hold a candle to THE GUESS WHO.
I disagree to Zeppelins cover! ( At least Led Zeppelin was not at Woodstock in 1969 doing this cover) This song has real intent in the message they left...
Zepplin blow from go to whoa. There is nothing good about those self-indulgent electric hippies. They even ripped of Daltrey's leather tassled stage get up and hair. They are strictly for stoners.
Johnny Kidd & The Pirates recorded the song first in 1960. Kidd wrote the song. In 1965, Canadian singer Chad Allen & The Expressions recorded it, and later released it under the name of the Guess Who.
The Who covering the Guess Who covering The Pirates, oh my. the Canadian Guess Who beats UK's Who for a good riff hook. UK's Who is too much psychedelic masturbation.
The Guess Who did an excellent cover of this song as did Eddie Cochran, the Stones, the Beatlesand many others. The Who's and Cochran's were the best in mho. The Guess Who's cover is thought by many to be the best.
What the fuck do you know you stupid cunt? I watched a one hour interview with Randy Bachman two nights ago in which he talks about releasing it in the UK. It was one of the first songs they ever recorded. It's on a few of their albums. Try ANTHOLOGY for one. Do some research next time you dumb fuck. Move out of your parent's basement while yer at it. Fucking turd.
@redbarchettadrive The original lineup did it---when Chad Allan was the lead singer---in 1966. They did a pretty snappy version, but the best version I've ever heard was the Who's "Live at Leeds" version . . .
I remember hearing people talk about Woodstock in '69 even though I was only 4. These bands kept the same hair style throughout the 70s and early 80s it seems to me.
@eslmc it was fall of 1976 and in 41 years of going to many aweosmke shows , the Who at that day on the green is the single most powerful show I ever saw tho my 1st show - Jimi Hendrix in May of 69 in San Jose is right up there .
it was because The Who pissed off the promoters because during the chaos, The Who demanded to be paid in cash as promised before they would go on. The producer had to leave in a helicopter and come back with a suitcase full of cash, only ones to get paid, then The Who went on. A deal is a deal and The Who were tired of getting screwed all those years in the 60's. The promoters called The Who, "premadonna's" LOL that is why The Who got shafted in the movie and on the album.
i was ther im older i new of stuff early i went ther it was off haha loud up u see music lots of stuff all over pass it on sort of no cops in it it was for peace just early rock befor it got on fm u see
shakin all over was supposed to be their last number at the woodstock festival. they've been asked to do a bis, so they jumped into my generation...great moment...
since recording was allowed and encouraged, and since this particular recording has been released on a major record label, i hardly think you can call it a "bootleg recording" - but yeah, nice to hear it
That is indeed where Woodstock took place. Woodstock itself didn't allow the festival to take place. Sometimes it's named as White Lake, but I think that's a hamlet right outside of or even in Bethel. Not sure.
yup cause bethel woods is a brand new venue thats supposedly built on the grounds of woodstock. saw dylan there, he musta had woodstock fever cause he brought out all the old stuff. you know dylan moved up there in like 65 and wrote rolling stone there...then everybody followed dylan up there haha.

@putoncabron I agree. The solo to this song on the "Live at Leeds" album is truly an awesome piece of music.

@steviea427 I have always thought that too. Pete's solo makes the hair on my neck stand up. The WHO can make any song sound...majestic.

I think I like the Guess Who version better, although I liked the way the Who did backing vocals when it stops and they sing "shaking all over!"
