The inclusion of "Amazing Grace" is a very nice touch, considering it was played at the end of Wrath of Khan when Spock was left behind on the Genesis planet.
I've been a trek fan since the '70's and have impressed others with my knowledge. I recently discovered this series, so my understanding is limited. However, allow me to add my opinion...(1) Since this is suppose to be in the timeline of the first 5 year mission, Chekov should be wearing the command colors, not security or engineering. (2) The Elvis wig on Kirk HAS to go. (3) The acting was rather stiff in spots, especially during the Kirk-McCoy-Spock banters. Great job on the props, though.
One thing I don't unserstand is why the Phase II (fan) writers use what they could of the Phase II (TV series-uncompleted) scripts. It would have been like realizing Roddenberry's vision. I know that a number of them became the Motion Picture and some ST:NG episodes. Still...
In the world of Star Trek, commissioned officers are referred to as "Mr." and "Sir" regardless of gender -- even though that might seem odd addressing a female that way. This format was used in ST: Voyager, and in some of the early ST movies, and perhaps in ST:NG.
In ST: Voyager, check out the very FIRST episode, where Lt. Paris calls Capt. Janeway "sir," but she says she prefers "ma'am." There are many other examples in the series where Paris or other crew members call Janeway "sir," but you are right, the majority of the times it is "ma'am." I'm not defending the practice, just saying that it is part of the Star Trek canon.
Spock's face is too thin. Kirk looks like a thin Arnold with dark whig. Scotty looks like a Mr, Potato head. Chekov is too funny I can't sstop laughing.
loved it ...great work... acting is a bit stiff... and the lines seem unnatural from time to timekirk and spock need to buff up a bit... scotty has a lousy accent... but still loved it...
1.) The voices are a little echo-y on the soundtrack.
2.) Kirk's hair is too dark.
3.) Scotty keeps losing his accent.
4.) Where is Rand's cross-hatched beehive? Any attempt would have been better than none at all.
5.) The acting is a little stiff.
Ok. Enough with that. Other than the above, this was awesome! They do a great job on capturing the feel of TOS. Props for the music! Like the shots of the turbolift descending. Good stuff!
The visitor call them the Monap, The Borg would call themselves something entirely diffrent, when Piccard encountered them 75 years later they learned the name "Borg" , this could explain Anica Hansens family going in search of the Borg in the Raven it would have been a tangible first contct with the collective decades earlier.
And would explain the framework of Commander Shellbys studies.
They could be called by another name becuase if they were called borg in that episode it would undermine the Enterprise-D first contact at system j 27
so..,she was a Q,right? this reminds me of the star trek-next generation episode where Q introduces the borg to Picard. good episode, thanks for sharing. :)
She might not be a Q. She's probably a member of the same race as Trelane from "The Squire of Gothos". Then again, Trelane might have been a Q himself.
The later episodes located at startrekphase2(dot)com are superior to this one. This episode was removed from their site because they felt it wasn't professional enough to meet their standards. Still, it's a pretty good work.
Agreed. I do wish that the New Voyages/Phase II folks would put this video back up, though. It's fun and provides a nice contrast to just how good their current work is.
The only thing that gets me about this is the Monab/Monap (?!). "Hive" would've been much better.
Hey - this is a really neat vid!! Like going back in time but having the knowledge of the present series. I wasn't too keen on all the characters at first but they are starting to grow on me. The graphics, history, characters faithful to themselves.. this is very well done and I really am enjoying it. Five stars and five stars to onlinequines for bringing them to us! Thanks hon!! (^_^)
MAYBE MORE LIKE Q INSTEAD OF BORG

I would have replaced Rand with Saavik, but all in all, that wasn't all that bad.

is there any way some of the music from the ST animated show could be incorporated into star trek phase 2?
that would be cool.

If this is phase two, then would not the hair styles change as well?, two I'm rooting for the KLINGONS.

Its still derogatory and sexist. In Voyager they always says "Yes Ma'am" to Janeway or simply "Captain"

First a few nit-picky complaints...

2.) Kirk's hair is too dark.
3.) Scotty keeps losing his accent.

@UniversalHammer This Rand is much nicer, in a very nerdy way =-)

its just a continuity thing that theyre called the monap rather than the borg. Because then starfleet would have had advanced knowledge of them.
It could just be a name used by a particular race, or like kirk said "a vision of a future invader"
Onabi cuddent have been a Q..cos theyre all called Q =]
maybe another continuity thing?

Why call them Monap, when they're clearly Borg?
Even the music used is from "The best of both worlds".
Sorayn 2 years ago 2
She was prolly tryin' to avoid messin' up the timeline, for the Federation was not supposed to know about the Borg at that time, not in this way.

I'd pay top dollar to have seen the original crew do this one! Maybe the crew for ST-XII anyone? Well, maybe after we loose Kirks Elvis doo and all.
To the makers of this, Great Job! It makes me feel like I am watching the originals for the first time!
PaulUmbarger 2 years ago 3
The Monap are definitely the Borg. All in all, this episode looks like an homage to "Q Who?" and "The Best of Both Worlds" from TNG.

Do all these Trek fan movies use the same set, or do they all re-create the original "Enterprise" bridge?

From what I am told all the sets are custom made to look like the original bridge.
