im nightblind and I use a terralux kit for the 2d maglite with 2 18650's and damn with that thing im pretty happy i dont have night vision, because i can still see better at night with this than my buddies can.

And yeah, most of flashlight manufacturers provide theoretically highest possible output- emitter lumens, which is the highest output from the LED itself. But when u take optical and other loses (even all leds aren't "exactly" the same-there are some output variations), u often get about only 2/3 of emitter light out of the flashlight. Only Surefire states the lumens correctly-if you buy 200lumens LX2, you WILL get 200 lumens out from the flashlight.

@newhuskytwenty You are correct - Surefire and Streamlight (USA mfr's) were surpassed in technology somewhere in late 2008. 4Sevens, OLight, Fenix, etc. all have better product that beat SF&SL hands-down, but SF&SL advertise to police dept's and military who then tell their friends its the best, who believe them on their word. I, being an American, wish SF&SL would come out with better models, but they are stuck in a rut selling an inventory of 3-year-old technology that they just won't let go.

@Hribovc This wasn't correct a year ago and it isn't correct now. Almost all high-end flashlight makers have been stating OTF lumens (Out The Front, measured at the outside of the front lens) for a couple years now. 4Sevens and OLight come to mind here, but there are others. Other cheaper brands count lumens from right in front of the emitter, or state the emitter mfr's specs whic as you say don't include reflectors, etc. Surefire had great tech in 2008, but the have lost the lead since.

I would advise you that you take a peak at reputable brands like maglite, surefire, fenix, olight, jetbeam.... from reputable dealers. You can indentfy the total output by lumens. Lux measurements provide you information how well flashlight "throws" the beam.

BTW, i too have this dropin in my mag and its very nice-nothing near as blue as in that video. Right now there's a new terralux dropin avaliable, which basically looks the same, but it has an output of 700 lumens and 3 brightness settings!

I ordered mine last tuesday. The 4-6D upgrade is just the bulb that gets replacing. This MagCharger upgrade is an entire new 3 LED head.

I got the 4 D cell, as you know, and on monday I will have my TerraLUX TLE 300M-EX with over 700 lumens, and this will be 91% more effective, maybe 4 times longer battery time, the light is the same (almost) all the time... I will get my new original mini-maglite 2AA on friday, and I will upgrade it too the best LED upgrade there is for that tourch, TerraLUX TLE-5EX ministar2 extreme (140 lumens) battery last 3 times longer than with org.buld.

3 powermodes, that you change with the powerbuttom.. max over 700 lumens.. a middle 200-300 maybe and a moon light.. 70 or less too save battery;) perfect... You should by it for your magcharger.. in UK it (wish I ordered from) it cost about 50 GBP...

I'd love to see a video review of the EX model. I'm going to be picking one of these up in a couple of months for my old Magcharger. There are no reviews anywhere yet on the 700 lumen EX. I'd like to see the lower brightness modes as well.

Ok, I got the 4D cell maglite and soon I will have the new TerraLUX TLE 300M-EX that will come in the mid november and it will provide over 700 lumens=D I now got the Xenon bulb in my 4D and it have 36000 candela (224,5 lumens) soo 700 lumens should be over 100000 candela...

I purchase one when they first came out for $100 bucks, they have since come down in price. TerraLUXcorp(dot)com gives the specs. I now have 4-6Dcells, two I keep in the jeep. I think they are great ! Like most light guys I have quite a few of everything but this  upgrade beats the hell out of buying a surefire M6 for $400+. Ya can buy D-cells anywhere on the bloody planet. 123s just aren't as practical . Nice vid KSON !

I do flashlight video comparisons as well and I have to say that because of the tight focus of that 600 lumen beam, it's more effective than my hacked Maglite with a 7 pin 900 lumen LED. I bought mine from ElektroLumens com and love it, but your setup throws better for searching for things in the distance.
