If you're using Windows, try the rle video option or the xvid codec, and try uploading it to YouTube to see how it looks like. I uploaded some clips too but since it was months ago I forgot the details, but the quality was o.k. Keep those videos coming. They're very appreciated.
Cheers:) The problem with RLE is that the files will be huge (they're already 200mb with the lagarith codec, which is also lossless), and the problem with Xvid is that it's a MPEG4 codec like DIVX (i.e. lossy and designed for "live" footage). I suspect the main problem is that I'm uploading the videos at 256*192, and Youtube is resampling them to 320*240. I may do some further investigation, but my bandwidth is limited...
Oh, and if you head over to the divx video sharing website (for some strange reason youtube doesn't seem to want to post comments which mention a competitor), I've uploaded the videos in their original glory...
If you use Spin or Spectaculator and save the it with the xvid codec you might get a better result. Did you use a lower bitrate because of the video duration? Thanks for the video. Another impressive demo. Cheers.
Thanks! I used a lossless codec to capture the videos, which was pixel-perfect (and about 200mb per clip), and then used Divx6 in "Insane quality" mode to encode them for Youtube. The final result weighs in at about 50mb and looks reasonable (divx and xvid are both lossy, so far from ideal - the bandwidth has to be cranked way up compared to "natural" video) Unfortunately, Youtube then re-encodes the video, which further reduces the quality.
