@DegenerationX123456 I think megas13proto meant improvise. Don't do covers. Just play what you feel, but don't copy others. Its not unique then. A talent show is about showing talent, if you copy others, you're showcasing their talent, not yours. You're just showing that you can copy, which anyone can do. It takes much more skill and devotion to improvise and feel your playing and impress an audience. If you can play the stuff you played, I'm sure you could make great original stuff too.

And no. that's not what 'Play' is to me. 'Play' is equivalent to 'feel' for me. I can run up and down scales all day long, and change them from Lydian to Phrygian mode or whatever you please for me to do. But I view music as art, and art is nothing without personal expression. I didn't mean that he sucked at guitar. Just that it wasn't very self expressive. But, he's only in the 6th grade, and he probably only recently started playing. That's why I said learn to play, then learn to PLAY.

If you think you can play the eruption, I recommend the spanish fly, also from van halen. Less shredding and more tapping, since in eruption tapping is the easy bit.

I hate all the people that only play the tapping part of eruption thinking they're badass. Even if they're good they may still limit themselves on the tapping.
