  • I have a question but not really about the serve. Is blocking close to the table with short pips like he zhi wen with shake hand grip as effective as penhold grip? Im asking this because my knees are getting worse and moving fast is not going well even tho im 27? Im trying to play close to the table but still with counter hits but its harder with a normal rubber than with pips it seems. Hope someone can help me with this. Thanks

  • @tshirttime84 Great question. There's not a lot of room here to answer so the best thing to do would be to post this question on our website under the Ask the Coach section.

  • thanks very much guys! i won my todays match with this serve!!

  • @ADADAD2322 That's excellent news. Well done!

  • Ya Quite helpful but many are hiting it hard

  • Haha imma lefty

  • @lol48275 Cool!

  • thanks for this serving tip.Pingskills is great and can help.

  • @MrKostaGi You're welcome. I'm glad this video helped you.

  • Great video.

    Some points:

This serve would not be anywhere near as effective if He Zhi Wen didn't also have excellent variation on this serve...he can do it flat, heavy backspin, heavy topspin and place it anywhere on the table.

He also does excellent short serves with almost identical action.

His counterattacks after the long serve are brilliant...especially the placement to the other corner. Without that the serve would be suicidal.

Using short pimples does tend to make the serve faster.

  • @PermacultureCairns Great points!

  • If i'm not mistaken, He Zhi Wen uses short pimples on his FH, hence his serve can cause other problems which are not relative to spin or speed.

  • Good Video and a great Serve :-)

  • @Flokib Thanks, I'm glad you liked it.

  • what a fantastic serve!

    Thanks coach

  • @qaseeh Glad you liked it. You're welcome!

  • Great video!

As a right handed, penhold player, I use a variation of this serve with a deep angle to the backhand for a change up; typically when their position is just slightly more centered on the table.

  • coach is pro! Great job on the video

  • @RaVENspikyness Thanks!

  • Thnxx coach for this effective lesson.......

  • A-Mazing :D yep as usual guys tell me your pro secret? :D

  • Her "Zhi" Wen

  • Great video! Even after years of playing, a lot of the serves the pros do still feel like black magic to me. Love your new slow-mo camera btw.

  • Sounds like ''Hershey Wins'' xD

  • Nice one. I will try this one tomorow during training :D i'm a right hand player, so i let you know if it's easy enough.

  • it's spelled "He Zhi Wen" I think...

  • Yet another great video by Pingskills! Your videos help me so much.

  • @tyhod123 Glad you liked it!
