  • I bought one of these after listening to Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western soundtracks too much. It permanently altered the shape of my teeth. I can at least say that for it.

  • sigh...if you don't know how, make sure the arms touch your top and bottom teeth so it doesn't vibrate, close you lips around it, but at the end you pluck at, shape your mouth into vowel sounds. Then pluck obviously. And if it hurts, durr stop playing for a bit and stop wacking yourself in the teeth.

  • i chipped my tooth

  • you got a purty mouth

  • boing.....

  • WHATISTHISBEAUTIFULCACOPHONYSERENADINGMYEARS?!

  • @brenden619 those go for bout $42

  • Guess what,

I think it's a marvellous instrument, began playing it around 30 years ago. It's musical, magical, & miraculous in how & what it has happened for me since I found it & what it has showed me, a lyricist, poet, singer, script/song-writer, etc. Working towards recording a Blues/Rock album in Mumbai soon. Check out my rendition of Lennon/ McCartney's MICHELLE here @ EnricoARao1

  • thanks you helped learn!!!!!!!!

  • yeah this guy kinda knows how to play the Jews Harp. If you wanna see a much better example, search airtist 2009 sziget festival

  • I've tried playing it. It's kind of fun that lasts maximum 30 seconds, because playing one note all the time is boring.

  • this sucks

  • Now I know where they get the sound effects to make Kangaroos jump

  • One of the masters of the Jew's Harp was the late, Great John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie.

  • I bought one yesterday. I thought it was a piece of junk because it could only play one note. Now I know it can make crazy sounds just by using on note :) unique!

  • Hi, is it ok by you if I use the soundclip of your youtube clip in my short western movie? I will upload the movie on youtube in the middle of June.

    /Alexander

  • this sucks

  • Comment removed

  • my dad got one from the mountians and now i cant put it down

  • Do the Redneck Rave everybody!

  • @NoahsGuitarChannel hahah hard out!

  • I had a jaw harp for a while. i learned how to play it, got a little bored of it and threw it out. I was getting rusty anyway, I don't know why.

  • I broke my tooth on the dumb thing... bleh

  • Hard to believe that this is what used to be used to serenade women. It was even allegedly banned for it's "endangerment of virtue".

  • It's named Jew's harp, not Jaw harp...

  • @rabies79

    It's either.

  • @rabies79 don't mean to bust your balls buddy but it actually originates from asia, jewish people just picked it up like most other "world" musicians. its called a jews harp in england because jewish people are thought to have brought them to britain, but its not a jewish instrument, thats according to wikipedia!! the home of my knowledge! hahaha, but seriously its more commonly known as a jaw harp in the rest of the world.... personally i call mine daisy. best regards

  • @ooooooooser Seriously, Wikipedia can be changed by anyoen and was probably changed by some asian Nationalist, and why would Asian people name it to Jaw Harp when they do not speak english, and in fact its most commonly known as Jew's Harp,

Here is a the his of them both:

    Jew's Harp: 412 000

    Jaw Harp: 361 000

And even according to Wikipedia it´s named Jew¨s Harp.

Still, i does not have much connection with Jewish people, why it was named that is unkown

  • I recently watched White Fang and just had to know what that little instrument was that goes "Boing". A Jaw Harp is a cool name for it.

I love it, and now I have to get one. "Jaw Harp John" plays it very well, I cheered after watching this!

  • FIRST COMMENT SINCE BOARDWALK EMPIRE EPISODE 7

  • @007goretex Holy shit dude I just watched the 7´th episode, and when Lucky Luciano enterns that room there´s a guy playing this instrument hahahah.

  • Glad to see I'm not the only one who watched Boardwalk Empire and wanted to get one of these things.

I've heard the "sound" quite a few times in songs and cartoons but I never knew the name of the instrument that did it. Good stuff.

  • Redneck techno!

  • @GTFORDMAN No.

  • BAD.ASS.

  • Just looks like he's stroking his face.

  • good butt fingering music

  • @Joshman34 That made me laugh so much xD

  • @Joshman34 that made my day lmao

  • @Joshman34 Ha!

  • @Joshman34 I can't stop laughing BARRRRRRRGGHHHHHHH!!

  • jew harps are sweet, i play mine daily

  • lol, i though he was playing with his mustache until i find out that he was playing an instrument!!

  • nice played, but can someone explain me is a trigger from harp inside his mouth ?

  • @mobb0ss no man its acually outside, the end of the thing is where his mouth open and its hard to see

  • amazing. where can I buy this harp? Please

  • IDK if this is a self-entitled name, or maybe I'm not well versed in the "Appalachian style" jaw harp, but if your instrument of "expertise" is going to be in your name, u better damned well be good at it! check out the video entitled "amazing mouth harp guy" for someone of that calliber

  • Very nice!

  • Really beats the or orchestral harp(!)

  • it sounds like crap because you're breathing through your mouth

  • Breathing through your mouth like he is doing is how you get different sounds out of the harp

  • Hillbilly rockstars don't need teeth.

  • I've had 2 of these things, one very large about twice the size of the one in this vid. I can tell u one thing, if u don't do it right they can crack your teeth. I told my sister that but she didn't listen, she only ever played it once.

  • @clintonearlwalker Ya, I got one about a month ago and was holding it wrong in my teeth, it slipped and *slap!* I have a crack on one of my bottom incisors. I started only plucking inwards instead of pulling it out and letting it slap back until I learned to hold it properly. Not a problem anymore, but it's permanently cracked my tooth D=

  • @downbeatpuppet Damn!! I'm sorry to hear u cracked a tooth with one of these things. There is probably a dentist that can fix if for a lot of money. It's amazing what dentists can do (for a lot of money). My jaw harps have laid in the drawer for years, and thats where they are going to stay. Cheers!!

  • @clintonearlwalker

Did you know you can play the jaw harp without actually using a jaw harp? (That is, with no risk of paying for the dentist's new gold club.) It's called "throat singing". You sing a steady, reedy sound just like the twang of the harp and hold it at a constant pitch while shaping your mouth and throat to bring out the different component notes. Check out the band "Alash" for some good examples.

  • @googlephi No, I didn't know that, thanx. My jaw harps are going to stay in the drawer though. I'm going to check out Alash right now. Cheers!!

  • @clintonearlwalker Shit! THanks for the heads up

  • @heymanhaha No problem. I've never cracked any teeth, but I can tell you that if that little "twanger" thing hits your teeth, it hurts like hell.

  • I have one of those, how do you play it? You are pretty amazing!!

  • Its mouth komus,a special instrument in Turkistan.

  • i want one so bad. one of my friends has one and im jealous. are they hard to play?

  • @squishykitty3

Si tu sais pas jouer avec ca,

C'est meme pas la peine d'essayer un autre instru..

  • thank you. im actually playing a few at the moment. im still very much interested in this sound.

  • Yes; they're extremely easy to play. As a matter of fact I suck at every other instrument I've tried but my friend's think I'm an amazing jew's harp player.

  • i have one...but im not that good..

    at all....

  • I must say this is a very positive instrument, its hard to match the positive energy out of it. I am sure its hard to sin a sad song over this one. guys where can i buy one of these. it is too cool

  • sounds like a dingeridoo, you know, that big tubes the australian aboriginies use?

  • You should pick up playing the didge. I play and I love it. It also is great for your health. It increase your lung compasity greatly(:

  • He's too breathy when he plays.

  • It's the way we hear it played in the Blue Ridge. Sounds fine to me.

  • Well, there's no accounting for taste. I prefer to let the harp do all the talking.

  • I didn't say anything about taste. I'm saying there's different ways people learned and different sounds to different areas, and if you think there's a wrong way to play a piece metal that makes a "boing" sound ("too breathy"), then, haha, I don't know what to tell you.

  • That's basically what I meant. *My* opinion is that this performance sounds amateurish, but my introduction to the Jew's harp was through Siberian khomus players, who have an entirely different set of styles. I might not like the way he plays, but I can't stop his doing it. In short, there's no accounting for taste.

The point is: we agree with each other.

  • Oh..please forgive me, I misunderstood.

  • It's amazing; all the different ways you can play one, simple instrument!

  • It really is. Take a banjo for example as well, one style of playing, clawhammer, sounds different to everyone because everyone makes it their own style. Especially with a jaw harp. Everyone's breathing and rhythm is different. It really is amazing!

  • wind instruments DO taste bad!

  • *Please* tell me you're being sarcastic.

  • In a sense... i know that's not the definition of "taste" you were referring to. But my previous statement is true.

  • Nicht schlecht aber schaut,hört mal Anton Bruhin an.Der ist Weltklasse!

  • awesome .... i never heard of that thing

  • Wwie heißt das nochmal auf deutsch... Maultrommel? Abgefahrenes Zeug.

  • siiiiick, that sounded like the first ever trance track lol!

  • @kishbot more like Cotton-eye joe :)

  • im still learning, cant seem to get it right,

  • que guay!!

  • thats mint! but i cant get a single note out of mine? would anyone have an ideas why??

  • just keep messing around with, it will click one day and then you will never have a problem again.

  • klasse

  • epic :D

  • thats amazing!

  • Just got one but shit is hard to play. I keep hitting my teeth with the bar

  • ya me to and it hurts when u do that

  • hes shucken that bugger down to the cob,go son,get some!

  • he needs to clip his nails lol

  • Very nice :>)

  • Jaw harps can be purchased in music and novelity stores. I have one and do all that stuff nothing big about it. I also have a humatone or nose flute.

With the jaw harp it rests against your teeth and by breathing in and out and moving your tongue back and forth you can make the various sounds.

  • where can i get this thing? :O

  • how the hell does a jaw harp work??

  • If you say "boingoingoing", say it without using your vocals, and only your tounge, and vibrations

    make the bar go "Boingoingoing".

  • the KEY you strum, vibebrates the air makeing sound, much like an acoustic guitar, your mouth acts as the body of the guitar. You breath in and out, also move your toung to change the pitch and tone.

You can almost breath any song you like and have it come out ok sounding...

  • kl m8

  • jaaaaammin'!!

  • Thanks for uploading, I'm interested in the different styles / playing techniques / traditions of the jawharp.

  • puthaaa!!!1

  • I wanna be able to do that while chasing a half naked chic with an axe in my hand

  • Well at least you have goals.

  • now that would look awesome :D

  • Exactly the same thing I was thinking !

  • @flatSplat ......

  • @flatSplat LMFAO

  • @flatSplat hahahahaha

  • @flatSplat Oh, you wanna be careful. I chipped a tooth doing that same exact thing.

    Only she wasn't HALF naked...

  • @flatSplat lol

  • @flatSplat She got a purty mouth.

  • @flatSplat WTF UR FUKD IN THE HEAD

  • FYI, if any of you go out and buy one and wonder why the hell it's not working... notice how the opening of the frame on his is really close together and almost touching the twanger. That's the key; to get the arms very close but not touching the twanger. I had to bend mine quite a bit to get the proper shape. Pretty fun and easy once it's working!

  • how did you shape it

  • Just used my hands and carefully applied firm pressure repeatedly. You may have to bend one of the arms outward a little bit before pushing them together, in order to ensure they are parallel.

  • whats the song name? i like it!1 iim gona go get one of these jaw harp!!!

  • i can play dat 1 is 14

  • Trompe.

  • I adore this music and want so badly to learn. But I have teeth caps and am afraid to damage them!!!!

  • imagine the guy who create this instrument

  • best comment ever !!!!!!!!!!

    XD

  • Imagine the guy who figured out you can milk cows...

  • yeeeees ... your mom is the best cow to learn on.

  • shup

  • =O you are too nice !!! my goal for this year is to be good like him at the Jaw Harp =O

  • I think you did a nice job!

    keep it up

  • Jaw Harp Lesson!!

Open mouth slightly, rest the straight bits on your teeth, put your lips nearly over teeth, twang the vibrator, and breath in and/out at the same time!!To get the different notes, wiggle your tongue about at the same time!

If all fails miserably, have a good laugh and go out and buy a Triangle!!!

  • omg , I have buy one and I don't know how to play that and you its "so easy" U.U real good song xD

  • awesome!!

  • You dont use your finger you use the vibration of you mouth you just use you finger to keep the string moving.

  • i take it you dont play then, of course you use your breath and mouth shape, but the hand is the most important bit
