I agree: 1961. Its been awhile since I heard this one thanks for posting it. The singer sounds like California's Bobby Nun (but I assume this group is out 0f New York, am I right?).
I was in Reno, NV in the '80s and I stumbled upon a used record store. The lady at the store recommended this 45 to me. I was somewhat reluctant but bought it anyway. Glad I did. What a winner. I turned comedian/emcee Bob Sarlotte onto this record. It's now one of his favorites, too.
I agree that they were a great ballad group, but they did some great uptempo stuff too.. Great Jumpin Catfish is a classic, and it should have been bigger than it was.
So do I. Ray Pollard is one of the greatest singers I've had the pleasure of hearing. He's controlled and polished while still being raw and powerful. Not many singers were able to pull that off
I have a Decca Promo of Say Hey Wilie Mays - is that the same group? I'll have to dig it out and check... but this is definitely the group who did I'll Never Smile Again and For Your Love - Nice uptempo track!!
Yes, one of your fellow group members told me in response to my post of The Five Reasons on my channel. Very interesting. I also like The Zebulons on Cub ('Falling Water')
WOW BASSING LIKE THE GREAT BASS SINGERS.
