lots of old analog hardware synths. they've never mentioned specifically which ones though if you do some reading on classic synths they probably are using Roland Juno's, Roland Jupiter 80's and other expensive classic synths of that sort. They specifically shy away from using virtual software synths and prefer to use hardware, record it, and then use computer programs like Logic purely to manipulate and sequence. They don't like to use software for effects or processing.
They don't use programs. They use organic sounds that they record and manipulate into melodies. They also use a ton of analog gear/synths and hardware, guitars and flutes. They are not fond of computers. Half the stuff you hear in their songs aren't even synths.
@ajre82 If you want music to party to then don't listen to that van buren shit. Listen to Vibrasphere, that's some tight shit you go crazy to, check out the song "Erosion", fuck me it's good!
Btw, Boards of Canada is amazing. Smoke a joint and put som BoC on, it's fuckin unbelievable. Try "Peacock Tail" or "Olson", great stuff. I agree with you on this song, it's not that good, but check out those songs.
There is no words, only how many unspeakable things I would have done to have been at that event. And those fucking people talking, I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN!
BoC need to make studio magic this year, then take some of their audiophilic love out to the world.
There was a massive power failure half way thru their set, All the music stopped with all the screens going blue with a loud electrical tone. They quickly recovered and things sounded different after, darker.
It wouldn't surprise me if this was deliberate and a message for us 'Not to rely on technology' as one day it may not be here ?
Sounds about right, they've made many comments to the effect of moving away from technology as much as possible. No recordings of said 'drop' out there?
I was at this Lighthouse gig at the Docklands, London back in 2000, they had a few problems and the stage had to be moved early on in the day from one end right in the middle of the room, It was the most packed gig I've ever been to, like sardines!
When Boards of Canada came on the anticipation was huge, the gig and visuals (which they also do) we're equally great with lots of unreleased music.
i hate that bands keep this material all locked up, and that warp only released three seconds of it. cruel, because that vocal sample is sick...they took telephasic workshop to a whole new level
Hope I can get this on some record somewhere. Not live. One of the best tracks I've heard from them. No other artist I know of can create these dreamy audio-landscapes. Need Spiro on CD now, please, thanks! Very nice photo as well! Would be neat to know where it's taken and what grows on those yellow fields. Just curious
i think boc likes it when people talk on their music. It adds that extra bit to their atmosphere ... ( why do they use so many samples of talking people else? background talking samples i mean then ... )
Looks like China. I can't be sure. There were a lot of caves there eons ago that collapsed and formed strange looking mountains. This is why Chinese watercolors of mountains look so distinct. They look like this photo for geological reasons. I do want to be sure to say that I'm only pretty sure that this is China. I don't know for sure.
Many later muscians in the electronic genre have been influenced by these guys, you have to admit they always pull something uniquely beautiful and dreamlike out of the bag. Kind of like lost memories.
I WANT THIS TUNE ! It's seeping into my utmost desires.
