I really liked his story about the WWII Gay Veteran Andy Lee who saved the life of another veteran Pvt. Corwin during that time. Pvt. Corwin's son was present in the audience to witness Pres. Obama sign the repeal. Just one of the many examples that Gay Veterans have been there during America's Revolution, they were there in the fields of Gettysberg, there were there in WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and now the Iran & Afghanistan War.

I have just one question to all those who are applauding: Given that the military is male dominated & soldiers shower/sleep together, how is one supposed to shower/change when ther is another guy looking him up & down & having an erection? If you asked women to bath/change with a man in the room, they'd be uncomfortable. How exactly is this whole gays in the military thing supposed to work?

@ikutoka1 No. That's not what people were being discharged for. They were being discharged for simply admitting that they're gay. Under no circumstance would the scenario you're describing ever be appropriate. But that falls into the category of sexual harassment, which also happens very frequently between men and women in the military. This repeal is about granting gay members of the military the same freedoms that straight members have, as equals. It's a matter of civil rights.

@copyryan Sexual harassment between men & women is rampant in the military yes, & is equally deplorable. But men & women aren't asked to sleep or shower together. That's where my question is. Will they have separate showers & dorms for gay & straight people? If not, how then can they say, it's not OK for men & women to shower together, but it's OK for a gay guy to shower with other men?

@ikutoka1 Clearly, there must be some code of conduct involved. However, what you're proposing is strikingly reminiscent of "separate but equal." I am straight and I think it's a ridiculous assumption that just because a person is gay, they will be acting inappropriately. Straight people and gay people have been sharing quarters and showers in the military forever. The repeal doesn't give anybody the right to act inappropriately. So what's the real difference? Nothing.

@copyryan Would a straight guy be put in a dorm full of hot girls and be expected to behave "appropriately?'' No! How then can someone who professes to be sexually attracted to men, be put in the same dorm/shower room with men who are trained to the peak of physical fitness and suddenly claim that he isn't checking them out. That's impossible. Gays claim they are being asked to live a lie under DADT, yet they are OK with telling a lie that they aren't checking out naked men in their unit.

@ikutoka1 You seem to be really hung up on the shower thing. However, statistics and surveys have shown that the majority of people in the armed forces are FOR the repeal. So it seems that people who are actually affected by this are far more comfortable with it than you are. And to be honest, you're just not going to change my mind by continuing to talk about guys in the shower and I really don't care to discuss this any longer. Thanks.

@ikutoka1 I can understand, somewhat. You have to realize that every gay person is not looking at str-8 guys as an opprotunity. Hell, look in the mirror, if your not hot then chances are we are not paying any attention to you. With that said, it very far fetched that a gay guy would attempt to look you up and down while in the shower with other men, the factor of him being the minority would put him at risk. Most of the time its the DL or supposedly str-8 guys that are trying to fuck the gays.

What I don't believe is that someone can be put in a room with people he claims to be sexually attracted to, shower & get naked with them and then claim not to even be affected by them. It would seem that anyone who is in opposition of this repeal is, in fact, opposing freedom. If you go around touting freedom and saying your a patriot, but then turn around and say your countrymen shouldn't be able to express themselves because you don't perceive their lifestyle to be "normal," then you are not only a hypocrite an enemy of freedom. DADT is a compromise between Christians and homosexual activists that view homosexuality different. It was under the democrat Bill Clinton when this policy was created.

There hasn't been an increase of troops to Iraq in more than a year. 100,000 troops have left the country in the last 18 months, and the last combat troops left in August.
