  • I was on that Interstate that day. I was also 9 months pregnat and due that that day, 5-9-95. Scared the crap out of me! Glad you have a video to show me.

  • Yea I can still remember being just south of that and taking video. That was an amazing storm to watch. Lot of updraft and the inflow was tremendous.

  • I don't think the tornado was breaking up, it looks to be rain wrapped. :)

  • A guy who could set his date on his camcorder. Good job! lol

  • Remember that sumbitch that hit Cantrell in the early 90's? F-0 I believe. That sumbitch was a slow mover too.

  • damn that bastard is massive!!!

  • The Sirens were a little late in this video.

  • I thought that was an F4

  • Very awesome footage. I actually have seen a few myself, but I saw them and filmed them while storm chasing.

  • AWESOME FOOTAGE.

  • I would have pissed my pants o.o

  • I am a survivor of this tornado. I reside in cantrall and watched as she jumped the tracks near my home. We managed to scramble into our storm cellar right before she demolished our neighbors home, jumped our home, and demolished our Garage. I still have the video of that thing.

And for future notice people, it is CANTRALL! Not cantrell haha.

  • moving pretty fast

  • I grew up in Elkhart and was 15 when this storm hit. I stood in a vacant lot across the street from my aunt's house and watched it hit my best friend's house and come across I-55 straight for us. But it moved so slowly and was sooooooo wide. It was the most thrilling thing!

  • This went through South Pekin, Illinois a really small town and I was about 5 or 6

  • I remember this...lived East of Elkhart

  • i live in springfield ill. and the tornados that hit in 07 took my house and car EF2 tornadosss

  • Don't you think you're dangerously close?

  • to bad it didnt tear out that shit hole coal mine. . . . . . . just kiddin . . . that is some great footage i live in springfield so i missed that one by oh 10 or 15 miles

  • holy shit this happen the date is was born damn

  • Hm :/

  • HEH good thing i live in a very urban area

  • Awesome! :)

  • ugh, i HATE may. month of the most devistating tornado EVER. And i was in its fucking path.

  • Do you mean the Moore/OKC tornado of May 3, 1999? Cause in my opinion the worst tornado in U.S. history was in March of 1925.

  • I hate April and May myself 3 years ago April 2, 2006 9:18pm an F-2 tornado touched down in Brownsville, Tennessee and was heading towards me it hit the west side of my hometown caused almost $500,000 in damage before it reached my house the tornado lifted passed over my house and another tornado outbreak occurred on February 5, 2008 all 8 sirens sounded when warning and tornado emergency reached us that tornado missed my hometown all together.

  • @xxwhipperxx was it the tornado in oklahoma city in 1999?

  • hill isn't breaking it up, believe me.great video

  • K, just to make something clear. You people have no right or reason to call them dumb fucks.... they'll decide there own fates. AND they had the guts to film this and you didnt. So shut up.

  • lol i like the "unfortunitly its coming right the fuck this way" smooth

  • i cant watch this video

energetic fun smart and loves this video Ey

  • "Suckn in's what it's doin', th sonofabitch!"

Awesome footage and great commentary and great David Letterman laugh! Gotta love it! I agree with strangeratrandom. This is the best tornado footage I've seen yet online.

  • Nice video it's the best I have seen yet online... Thanks for sharing..

  • omg thats huge is that same tornado that hit PLainfield?

  • my bad i meant Cantrell, Illinois.

  • Yes. This is the tornado that came out of the Cantrell, IL area. It was a really long lasting tornado!

  • Do you live near cantrall, Illinois because there was a tornado in cantrall that looked like that.

  • Dam that fucking scary.

  • That must of been the most eerie thing in the entire world... to have seen clouds massing over the landscape, churning into a gigantic cyclone! Damn.

  • Gotta love the narrators of the video. :)

  • That looks crazy, wouldnt wanna be in the path of one of those monsters heh.

  • I remember that day. I was living in Sherman and saw this twister come from Cantrell. We got some good footage too.

  • Have you been able to get this footage on a digitil medium? I would love too see or obtain your any footage of this tornado!

  • I have family that lives in Athens Illinois, I remember them telling me about it.

  • it wood be cool to be there:) nice

  • Great footage. The tornado at the end looks like the Hallam Nebradka Tornado from 2004.

  • I think what makes this storm especially cool are the smal satellite vortices. Were any of them anticyclonic, by chance?

  • This is old video tape footage and it was hard to get the video to cleanup.

The original video was taken by friends of the family that live near us.
